Dont overthink it man. Phones are now practically disposable and the flagship devices are a complete con. 

 

Nobody under the age of 35 worth caring about gives a shit about what phone you have, what trainers you're wearing, what car you drive. 

 

Slightly older iPhones are orders of magnitude more repairable on the cheap than newer ones or the android equivalents. But by and large they do exactly the same fucking thing as the cheapest android devices.

Not sure I agree. Use my phone for literally everything. On the fells today using it as my OS map. It's my wallet. I listen to music and podcasts on it. It's practically a professional camera. Dictaphone which takes meeting minutes for me and even meeting summaries. I watch films on it. Games. Etc.

I think the tech is mind blowing tbh. And I don't mind paying incrementally more to get the best experience. The speed and smoothness of my S25 ultra is quite noticeable compared with cheaper counterparts.

My choice isn’t about what’s fashionable, it’s about what I find most intuitive. I pick up an iPhone and just get on with it. I pick up an Android and I’ve really got to think about what I’m doing. Appreciate some people are the other way around.

 

The issue with both, and more so with Apple is they push you to update and it reaches the point where the processing power cannot keep up. I got an ‘X’ in 2018 and sweated it as much as I could and had to replace it 5 years later with the 15 Pro. I always go for the top end so it (in my head) lasts longer.

 

Battery performance is the big issue and where R&I needs to be on its game. Most batteries are fucked within 4-5 years and unless a replacement is factory-fit, it’s anyone’s guess what you’ll get out of it’s replacement.

I don’t stand anywhere on Apple v android really. I’ve had this 13 pro for 3 years; its battery is going and it wouldn’t allow the latest update this week until I’d deleted a load of apps which weren’t fully downloaded anyway. So this is only going one way. I’d been looking at other phones for a few months and the Pixel 9 pro had caught my eye so when Gemmill said on here they were coming down in price a couple of weeks ago it was a no brainer . Think I might keep this as beck up, I’ve cancelled a couple of subscriptions this morning so I’m not really going to notice the £29 x 24 months. It’s a brilliant phone but I’ve had a lot of androids over the years and my work phone is android too. Hoping for a better battery and for it not to get so hot when being charged…and to muck around with Gemini AI etc..maybe draw some trains… I hear that’s popular ☺️

My last phone was a Xiaomi 11 ultra - off Ebay from China - very nice - only issue was they'd rooted it to install the global rom so I couldn't use Google wallet and a couple of other apps.

 

I lnow have an Honor v2 magic - I guess I'm the only fucker nerd enough to have a folding one.

Sony went on a mission about 15-20 years ago at trying to produce the world’s best camera phone. Teamed up with Carl Zeiss I think.

It does, but obviously you have to pay more for that amount of storage. £2.50 a month currently. I like a belt and braces approach though. Also if it's on your phone you can access it off line.

Fucking hell that takes me back to my days shilling digitals cameras around the turn of the millennium. I'm pretty sure even then that Leica were always heavily partnered with Japanese companies (Kyocera and Panasonic), and the production of the lenses themselves was mostly (if not entirely) outsourced to the far east. But the name itself was a massive selling point.

Not to get into a cock swinging competition, but I use a £150 Motorola for all the same exact things, with the only real caveat being that yours probably badly has a better camera and processor. 

Last flagship phone I ever bought was the first one Sony released after the split with Ericsson and got burned really fucking bad. 

I don't think I could go back, it's great knowing that I drop this thing off a bridge or my son launches it into a river I'm not still on the hook for £30 a month for another year and a half.  Mrs B has slowing been coming over to the same mindset.

Fuck, I even have a teenage daughter who now swears by her iPhone 11 because, in her own words "it still does everything I need it to do, and every time I smash the screen I know you can fix it for £25."

I get it mate. Horses for courses. My phone's insured through the usual house hold stuff. Last year D1, she had a paddy and chucked it against a brick wall, destroying it. Claimed on insurance, Apple Newcastle fixed it. Great to have that point of contact.

On the other hand, none of my androids have ever had problems anyway, mainly cos I'm not an insane teenage lass. Although I may start identifying as one soon, ans please respect that.  👍

When I got the iPhone X I made the mistake of getting the one with the most storage 512GB I think. When I replaced it I went with 128GB as the cost of storage had gone through the roof and it backed up to cloud anyway. 
 

Trying to transfer data between the phones was painful to the say the least and it’s their retention trap - hold all

your data and it’s less easy to jump to a different provider.

Well this is why I don't like Apple. Monopoly providers of both your hardware and software. You can use Google Drive etc on any platform I think?
