honestly. i know we're desperate for a new striker but does anyone expect anything but a season of struggle if we go into september with carr, babba, taylor, ramage bramble and moore as our only first team defenders.

a] you're going to struggle with that crop of defenders because they're mostly shit

and

b] who ever went to a season with only 6 recognised defenders???

it's madness.

we need two new defenders minimum and time is ticking. why does the fat twat leave it until the last minute EVERY transfer window?

if we don't get more defenders in before tonight we're going to struggle and roeder will be the fall guy. anyone would think that he likes sacking and paying off managers two months into the new season.

188925

don't be stupid. We backed Souness to the hilt, selling players he shouldn't for peanuts, and buying players for big money, which a lot of people said we should do to "give him his own team".

Well, it failed. Those who said he should support Souness were wrong.

How much money exactly do you think we should throw at managers ? How many other clubs have thrown 16m quid this summer for starters ?

Roeder may well be the fall guy, but whoever we got would be paying the price for Souness's stupidity, and those who said we should back him and so agreed with Shepherd in that matter are just as stupid.

189661

i don't know how you can defend him after yet another farce.

the sad thing was how predictable it all was.

i think i predicted a couple of panic buys a few weeks back but i didn't imagine even shepherd could fuck it up this much.

no new defenders? antoine sibierksi?

you're having a laugh mate

189691

Defend who ?

For handing his managers another 16m quid ?

You don't have much idea do you

189717

running a club isn't about spending a fortune on players you don't need.

it's about budgeting money so that your manager is able to build a squad, not half a side of crocked or shite trophy signings.

i take it you're happy with our current defence and our new signing sibierksi?

189721

you said it yourself, "the manager is able to build a squad"...if you are not happy with the signings this summer, why are you blaming Shepherd ?

Don't you think 16m quid is a canny bit of money, I think its a hell of a risk actually, after the Souness era.

As for "Trophy Signings" ... where did you get this cliche :( if you don't want trophy, quality signings, go and support the mackems or one of the shite teams, who don't make "trophy" or quality signings..... priceless. Talk about not having a mind of your own .... trotting out the current buzz word, dear me.

B)

189727

you don't think shepherd has any infulence over our transfer window (lack of) strategy? how naive.

i'm pretty sure sibierski wasn't at the top of the shopping list roder gave ff at the beginning of the summer. but yet again, the fat twat waits until the last possible minute and we end up with the best panic buy EVER.

so remind me what you think of our defence going into the new season?

Should Roeder be sacked then LM?

189731

aye, sure he should, bring back Ozzie Ardiles, Bill McGarry and Lord Westwood is what I say. That bloke Bob Murray would make a good chairman as well, or Doug Ellis, he's avaiable now, anyone but Fred like.

I'm confused. You're not blaming either Fred of Glenn for the lack of defenders coming in to the club, despite throwing £5m at a player we didn't even need?

Apart from Gemmill and I, whose fault is it? If Souness had made these signings, would you be as happy?

i went to the games when we were shit believe me.

the bad times in the past is still no excuse for the current chairman's incompetence.

not for me anyway. you blame the manager. i blame the fuckwit that runs the club and ultimately makes the important decisions.

i don't know how you can defend the current situation we find ourselves in. everything about today was a total shambles. the vidula farce, sending poor milner down to birmingham then calling him back and then panic buying some 32 year old man city reject. smacks of a shambles of a club run by, frankly, a cretinous moron.

Long post by Leazesmag coming up, claiming that Villa wouldn't have signed Sibierski...

189659

Did you back Souness ? I think you should sit back and think about the fact that, if Souness hadn't sold Robert and Bellamy, and wasted 17m quid on Boumsong and Luque [who you support] our need to stay in the top positions of the premiership may not be so urgent.

Hm..."top positions of the premiership", chasing a european spot. Terrible isn't it. And spending only 16m quid this summer is truly the sign of a shite board .....

I don't need to make long posts about things like this. The stupidity of some people is explained far easier than that.

I really don't give a toss who Villa have bought. Do you ? If so, why ?

189677

Back him in what way? I was hugely against his appointment (a mistake by FS) but I also recognised that it would be a bigger mistake to sack him straight after the transfer window closed. I didn't send any emails to Freddie congratulating him though.

I do care who Villa have bought, yes. I care about all the players our rivals have bought. After all, we're competing with them, no?

EDIT: We've bought no fucking defenders man! I couldn't give a shit how much we've spent!

189684

It would not have been a mistake to have sacked him straight away. The day he assaulted Bellamy is the day he should have been sacked, if not the day he replaced him at Charlton where he made it clear his managership was going to be all about his ego rather than the best thing for the club. But there are people on here who said he should stay.

As I said, he told you that Boumsong was "a good player, and a leader". And people backed him, and Boumsong.

We have spent 16m quid this summer, on top of the massive amount last year. How many other clubs have done that ? Why exactly do you and others think this football club can continue spending so much money on every decent player that comes along ? Do you want us to buy every player that comes on the transfer market, or are you going to blame FF whenever any player goes anywhere else ?

A 12 year old could tell you we can't do that.

189714

Bit harsh isnt it? and confused.

If assault results in sacking Souness as you say....well then Bellamy wouldnt have been at the club by the time Souness arrived would he? Make your mind up which is acceptable but you cant have it both ways.

The fact of the matter surely lies with :

1. Shepherd announced Robsons final year and as with Fergie at Man Utd it was a big mistake. Players are quite stupid but not short on knowing when they can take the piss and half a dozen did it very well during those days to the point they would have gone in most other businesses.

2. Shepherd employing Souness - bad idea. everyone knew it.

3. Shepherd employing Roeder - accident waiting to happen. many acknowledge it.

Whatever anyone thinks of Boumsong, he is centre half who has gone. Surely a competent manager employed by a competent chairman would have replaced him? No?

The buck stops with the man at the top and he has done many decent things. But throwing money at incompetent managers is not good stewardship. It is reckless.

Recently he has been appalling when making the most important appointment.

While I think it is good that we have given another £16M to the manager, what I cannot get my head around - I mean, maybe its me but -

- We needed defenders desparately. Robbie Elliot now at sunderland, Boumsong now at Juve. Thats two players who played for us last season. Not only did we not strengthen an already poor back four, its now considerably weaker.

- The James Milner farce. Though to me its clear what happened. GR was told he needed to sell to buy more. That is fair enough in a way. He reluctantly agreed to sell Milner to Villa, but then the player (s) he wanted fell through so he didnt need to sell anymore.

- Up front we were weak last season with Owen being injured. Luque not being interested. We also knew Shearer was coming to the end of his time. So we knew we needed at least one forward. Then we let chopra go who we had used & Owen is injured again. So surely, we needed to bring in one more at least? Even just to get where we were last season?

- The the midfield. Thats defence and forwards bollocks up so what about midfield? We get Duff. Now, dont get me weong he looks a cracking signing for us and at £5M I can see what the attraction was. But how can we afford such luxury? We has Milner, Solano and NZogbia who between them done a very good job on the wings. Zog seems to be getting sacrificed to make way and yet is one of our most creative, threatening players. We are already stuffed to the brim across the centre. Dyer will be back, we have Emre, Parker, Butt. So then to cap off our signings we bring in a guy who cant get in the City team?

After all of this Im now still wondering, why didnt we go for Hasslebaink? Why did we appear to go in for players at the last minute? Huth, Woodgate etc. Smacks of being unorganised.

Who do I blame?

I blame both chairman and manager. The manager HAD to realise. He must have known what we wanted. Why wait until after the world cup? Martins wasnt at the world cup? Yet he was his no1? Why didnt we start work on this at the end of last season and at the start of the summer? We left it late and its bit us on the arse. As for the Chairman, he negotiates the signings. Last I heard we were in "pole" position for 2 signings possibly 3. I doubt very much our friend from City was one of them. So we have failed on 3. Why?

Yes I look at some of the moves that have been makde and think, why not us? Though Im not foolish to think we could have got them all or a few. But one? Some quality players have moved, so I will not accept that players were not available.

Bah.

If we assume that only Roeder is to blame for this transfer window mess, it still means that Fred sat there, as the head of the company, smiling whilst he watched a mentally retarded person make key and erroneous business decisions detrimental to the the future of the company. That makes him a horribly incompetent Chairman who may be blameless due to complete retardation. That is the best case that can be made for Shepherd being blameless.

Anyone who can't see that is mentally retarded and should be trusted with no decision of greater importance than "butter or mayonnaise?"

The bit in bold is clutching at straws. When an argument has been successfully dismantled if the protagonist wishes to continue with it they will be reduced to slander.

LM I absolutely agreed with you on Souness he was a dreadful manager. However he was always going to be that. He had been a dreadful manager everywhere. So who appointed him.

Your protestations and support of the man who has been in charge for some time do you credit on some levels however let us look at your arguments. You say we are much better now than in 1992 when the current management took over. A misrepresentation of the facts. In 1992 SJH took over and was chairman and led us through our greatest recent period. SJH stood down in 19996 and Shepherd took over. The downfall started soon after.

It is my argument that Shepherd is to blame for where we are. For mismanaging funds for bad appointments. For bad crisis management. It is in crisis that real leadership stands out. And it's about time Shepherd stood out. Preferrably outside SJP never to return

Yes I AM an accountant. And as an accountant I would have counted all the money and said to Roeder "Err Glenn, we've got £15m to spend. We need 6 players, you've said it yourself. Now are you absolutely certain that you want to spend all of that on two players?"

Are you getting this yet? You have gone into TOTAL SPASTIC mode as far as I can see.
