Carroll and Ameobi will offer more than Smith. He has been out all season and is rusty for a start. Give him a few games in the reserves. If he looks lively, then we can think about giving him a chance. How long is the Duke out for? We need his textbook end of season return VERY soon. In the meantime, i'd personally play Martins and Carroll up front - at least until Owen returns.

I think it was a token gesture of a bid. Surely they would have talked about Johnson when negotiating the Given deal. And then to announce 30 mins before the deadline that a bid was rejected is a joke. There is just no logic in it.

Barnes cant get in the Derby team at the mo. Wouldnt mind taking him on loan until the end of the season though as he has looked quite good in the past and has just returned from a lengthy injury.
