  1. As Alex has said, ie Edwards. From memory it was always Matthews.
  2. Going off topic but speaking of Stanley Matthews, I don't know if I'm imagining it but I'm pretty sure growing up Matthews was meant to be the greatest English footballer? (Not saying he was), whenever football journalists and pundits spoke. Now Bobby Charlton had been retired over a decade by then but I'm sure the general consensus was it was Matthews? But when Charlton died recently it was 100% Charlton. What changed apart from the journalists and pundits being younger? Charlton obviously never came out of retirement and swept up a few more trophies? Does Blackpool and Stoke not have the same gravitas to the big 6 centric pundits?
  3. Beardsley, Gazza and Barnes all did the rap, they were all shite. If you hear the Barnes demo it's not like the finished article.
  4. I've been to both, (well, Stoke's old ground). Think Vale is in the Burslam district without checking? Messrs Robbie Williams and Stanley Matthews both hailed from Stoke. But you're right about the flags, they're the tournament fans because of course they are. (The alternative is lower league football with the occasional cup final against Sunderland).
  5. Southgate for Liverpool, then Jamie? (Or would that be a big fat no?)
  6. I kind of agree with him that your manager should be from the same nation but them's not the rules so it's every country for themselves. Port Vale is in Stoke.
  7. Thought you were batting for Gareth? I'm not England's number one fan so it's a 100% balanced opinion and not clouded by bias but he's definitely who he is, and that's an average, cautious manager who's not played his best hand. Not the first England manager to do that to be fair to him but there's your problem. Need a ruthless man in the job, I'm afraid.
  8. "Yew are denying my fondermental rights as a subject of her mojestey, queen Elizabeth ther second to come into the workplace in an inebriated fashion, so y'are yew heathen, papist, follower of Beelzebub, ye.'
  9. Ingurlaaaand, ingurlaaaand, ingurlaaaaand!
  10. Noooorrrrrn Iron! Noooorrrrrn Iron!
  11. Mates are out for the match, I said no, I'm up at five in the morning, I'll just watch it in the house. The bairns are both out as well. Anyway, I'm now on my fourth can of kronenbourg.
  12. Don't worry, Diego, if England win I'm English, if they lose I'm Northern Irish. It's all good.
  13. 'It's always great to get a run out and at this stage of the pre-season it's more about fitness than the actual scoreline but it was gratifying being in such a close game against such a big club with obviously very good players.' The new Sunderland boss.
  14. "Jamesh, you incredibly handshome devil, you've only grazed hish ear, a man of your outshtanding talentsh as well?"
  15. Somebody actually died in the crowd as well as the gunman? A bit of an afterthought as this is the first I've seen this since I got up. Bad, bad news if this is legit and not some kind of stunt which looks unlikely if they've actually killed someone? Handy the gunman's been killed as well.
  16. Must've been great night? (It took a few seconds to realise who Regis was?)
  17. I've said it before, but NUFC would be dead to me if I was in their shoes, fair enough if you happened to be watching motd and you knew we'd been hammered you might watch it but other than that I'd have us on ignore. Taking as big an interest in us now is surely not going to be doing them any good at all and we haven't even won anything. The absolute hammer blow to the gut it must've been for them when the takeover was announced after the high amusement when it kept getting delayed would've been delicious to witness in person.
