United eager to trigger Owen's £9m escape clause
ewerk replied to Scottish Mag's topic in Newcastle Forum
It was denied ad-nauseum at the time. It was denied that there was no clause stating that he could leave a year later but there was no denial that a release clause existed. Perhaps Oliver's time today may have been better spent finding the truth behind these claims than penning Roeder's eulogy. -
Possibly the fact that he has laid the blame exclusively at the players' feet while ignoring all of Roeder's obvious shortcomings? Are you really so thick you can't see that? Are you really so thick you can't read a headline? "Toon players have to take share of blame" Who has he attributed the rest of the blame to? Have a vague guess considering this is an article following his sacking... Point me to an article where Oliver has been more than lightly critical of Roeder then. No response? Didn't think so fuckwit. Pathetic So you're not going to show me an article then?

Interesting to see that there has been no denial of this story from the chairman or even more surprisingly from the Chronicle given that Oliver is bound to have asked Shepherd about this supposed clause. -

Is agreeing with .COM, the Chronicle, a substantial number of people on here and N-O and everyone I know what's deemed controversial these days? Think he was joking like. I'll give him the benefit of the doubt and assume that he missed the big wink on the end of my post.

I really do reckon Oliver works for Shepherd doing odd jobs much like the Orgazoid - Jez relationship.
-
HF clearly trying to be controversial just so he doesn't feel ignored anymore.

Do they not? I thought it was just that Allardyce took umbrage at the fact that Shearer was on the interviewing panel last time we were after Sam?
-
The more I think about it the more I'd prefer either Houllier or Eriksson to Allardyce. Whilst I think Sam would have us well organised and most likely in the UEFA spots I think Eriksson's and Houllier's track records mean we could eventually get back in the CL, the only problem is that we don't have money to waste on more expensive flops which could be brought in by those two.

FYP

Aye but Sven wouldn't come cheap and would be demanding much more than the £15m transfer kitty rumoured to be guaranteed to Allardyce.

That's a good point. -
Well who wouldn't be interested in the "8th biggest job in world football"?
-
Houllier would certainly be a contender in light of his achievements at Lyon and Eriksson would certainly have the profile to attract top class players, I really hope Shepherd hasn't settled on Allardyce without first at least casting a glance at the alternatives.

Not to forget that our 17 defeats this season is a new record.

That must be the sound of the barrel being scraped.

Challenge for the league and CL with Man U or stay here and push for a UEFA Cup spot? It's a no brainer really for the neutral, he has one more big move left in him and if he doesn't take the chance this summer it may never come round again, sometimes footballers have to be selfish. -

If there is a clause in his contract I don't think it's a straight forward release clause, more likely to be activated only if we finish below a certain point in the league or fail to qualify for Europe. Should be sell him for £9m the whole deal will have cost us £16.3m (£7m loss in transfer fee + £9.7m in wages), a shocking waste of money. -
Throwing that sort of money at a world class manager isn't the most ridiculous idea in the world. If we're paying the likes of Dyer and Duff a combined wage of around £140k pw it makes sense to pay the manager just as well seeing as they are the most important part of a team IMO.
