?? This is absolutely disgusting, I had to dish out about $399 for the iPhone 1.0. I got a sub-par phone which incidentally I had to replace two times because of quality control issues at Apple. Now they release a 3G version that is substantially cheaper, I am more anti-Apple than ever. Sherif Kadry, Houston, TX

'Orwellian' police in bid to silence ex-boyfriend stalked by youngest magistrate
Jimbo replied to Fop's topic in General Chat
What credible activity do you currently receive payment for Dave ? He's not being elitest or superior in asking the question though as you must surely understand so thats a bit of a cheap one to be fair-he's making the point about Fop's blatant (to everyone but him) hypocrisy/double standards/evasiveness, in the face of demanding answer after answer after answer ad infinitum from everyone else. Anyway when has Dave been anything other than totally candid about what he does? If anything he sticks his neck out there and risks people taking a pop at him for being a bit alternative in his career aspirations. If someone is going to start play "top-trumps" with careers, its best to have one yourself. It wasnt about elitism or one-upmanship though, it was just about transarency and openess. Would it make a difference if he was a barrister or a bricklayer ? If he's a twat he's a twat ! -

The Times Window watch: Newcastle chase £10m forward Bafétimbi Gomis James Ducker, George Caulkin Decent bets Newcastle United have stepped up their pursuit of Bafétimbi Gomis by lodging a £10 million offer for the St-Etienne and France forward, who is also interesting Arsenal and Bolton Wanderers. Gomis signed a new four-year contract with the French club only last week, stating that his “priority was always to remain at St-Etienne”, but Newcastle’s offer will remain on the table throughout the course of the European Championship finals this month. The 22-year-old has been likened to a younger Didier Drogba and was a surprise inclusion in France squad for Euro 2008, ahead of Djibril Cissé and David Trezeguet, the respective Marseilles and Juventus strikers. Gomis has been a long-term target for Newcastle and has been watched by Kevin Keegan, although Arsenal could yet scupper any hopes that the Tyneside club have of signing him. Arsène Wenger, the Arsenal manager, is an admirer of the player and could make a move if Emmanuel Adebayor leaves the Emirates Stadium this summer. Bolton have also checked on Gomis but are reluctant to get dragged into a bidding war. Ipswich Town have agreed a £3.5 million fee with Newcastle for Shola Ameobi but may face competition from Norwich City for the forward, who recently rejected an opportunity to join Stoke City. Newcastle, however, are driving a harder bargain for James Milner. Rafael Benítez, the Liverpool manager, rates the winger highly, but is reluctant to meet Newcastle’s £7 million-plus valuation.

Apple announces cheaper 3G iPhone Apple has unveiled a second generation of its iPhone, with support for faster 3G wireless networks. The company is hoping to boost its share of the smartphone market, which is dominated by Nokia and Blackberry. The new devices were launched by Apple boss Steve Jobs who said the phone would be "more affordable" for consumers, starting at $199 (£100). The new iPhone also comes with GPS satellite navigation built in for location-based services. The iPhone was first launched last year and was criticised for its support for slower 2G networks only. Mr Jobs said the 3G iPhone was "three times faster" downloading content over a mobile network compared to the original device. Analyst John Delaney, research director for consumer mobile at IDC, said the iPhone 3G was disappointing. "To me it's more about what they didn't say, than what they did. Everyone knew it would be 3G and have GPS." Apple has a 20% share of the US smart phone market, but only 5% worldwide. Rival handset manufacturers have also been designing devices which assume the iPhone's mantle as the "most desirable phone on the market", including Nokia's N96 and the Blackberry Thunder. Google's Android platform will also hit mobile phones later this year, adding yet more competition to the high-end consumer smartphone market. Apple has sold more than six million iPhones since the device debuted in the US in June last year and the firm says it is on course to sell 10m iPhones by the end of 2008. Mr Jobs said the cost of the original iPhone was the "number one reason" that people had not bought one of the devices. Mr Jobs said "The iPhone started at $599. It now sells at $399; We want to make it even more affordable." The cheapest 8GB iPhone 3G will sell for $199, while a second model with 16GB of storage will sell for $299. Mr Jobs pledged that the $199 price would be the same across many countries. The new iPhones will be launched on 11 July in 22 countries. Mr Delaney said: "The fact it's cheaper is interesting. But how is it going to be cheaper? "If Apple is doing it by cutting the retail price it will drastically hit their margins, if they sell volume. "If the lower price is through operator subsidy, they are becoming a bit more humble. But that's not clear at this stage. "Either way, they are going for volume. But they have got a big mountain to climb outside of the US."

Knowing the demographic down there, I expect half of them were down by their knees. I know one thing for certain, Jimbo's ballbag won't be. Every hand's a goal ! FYP That's a fair point. To be honest this weather is doing me no good at all, my knob looks like a Strawberry on a string at the moment.

Had fuck all to do with her either. Yep, I hate people who make a mountain out of molehill. Fairplay maybe he should have said sorry but the way they reacted I would have soon changed my mind about giving that apology. She needs to get a grip, she's got a massive chip on her shoulder.

Very but I guess if you are going to ram an opponent out of the race so it might as well be your rival.

Newcastle are planning to sack jailed £55,000-a-week midfielder Joey Barton unless he agrees to a 50-per-cent pay cut. Manager Kevin Keegan wants to keep Barton, despite him being imprisoned for six months in May for assault and affray. The player faces another trial later this month for allegedly assaulting his then Manchester City clubmate Ousmane Dabo last year. But the Newcastle hierarchy, led by owner Mike Ashley, executive director Dennis Wise and vice-president Tony Jimenez, are not happy and could move to dismiss the player even before the case begins on June 30. Stuart Pearce, City boss at the time of the Dabo incident and now an assistant to England head coach Fabio Capello, will be a key witness for the prosecution at Manchester Crown Court, where he and a number of players are expected to give eyewitness accounts of what happened at the training ground in May 2007. Newcastle have taken legal advice since Barton was involved in violent incidents in his home city of Liverpool in December. He has four years of his contract to run, but Newcastle believe his conviction and imprisonment give them legal grounds to sack him for gross misconduct and avoid paying up the remainder of his deal, just as Chelsea did after Adrian Mutu failed a drugs test in 2004. A FIFA tribunal have now told Mutu he must pay Chelsea £9.4million over the incident. Newcastle would try to retain Barton's registration to recoup some of the £5.8m they paid City. Barton, who has not been paid since he was jailed, has been told his only hope of staying is if he agrees a pay cut of up to 50 per cent and even that offer, which he is unlikely to accept, will be withdrawn if he is convicted in the Dabo case. Newcastle feel the forthcoming trial will further tarnish the club's image and the fall-out from the incident with former France star Dabo will hinder their attempts to sign French-speaking players. France and St Etienne striker Bafetimbi Gomis, now at Euro 2008, was the latest to reject them.
