There has been a case recently in Germany where a young athlete (16 years then) got her coach sentenced because he gave her Andriol (Testosteron) saying it were vitamins. She didn't take it and and let the pills get checked secretly. The thing is that the coach in question is Thomas Springstein who has a long track record of doping offences starting with the likes of Katrin Krabbe and Grit Breuer in the early 90s. So how and why any other athlete could "trust" this man is a serious question. Even worse imho are those parents who are sending their kids to these kind of coaches. With a name like that he was born to run........

Driven Given sets goal to grab No 1 jersey for keeps The Newcastle custodian celebrates 10 years at the club and intends to see off all challengers By Michael Walker Published: 07 October 2007 With a frying pan in front of him, Shay Given celebrates his decade at Newcastle United tomorrow night. St James' Park hosts a cookery evening complete with Given, celebrity chefs and a well-fed snooker star, Dennis Taylor. It is a different way to recognise a player's contribution and a different way of fundraising for Macmillan Cancer. With both time and money, Given is naturally generous but the charity is closer to him because he lost his mother Agnes to cancer when he was five years old. There will be a review of Given's 10 years since Kenny Dalglish brought him from Blackburn for £1.5 million and the cash raised will take Given's fundraising work for Macmillan to a comparable figure. He does not want a pat on the back but you can tell that when Given met young housebound carers in Newcastle last Monday, as part of the Creating Chances campaign, it meant something to him. "These kids, young carers, their parents are suffering and they're having to look after them," he explained. "To go and collect them and take them to this place in Rowlands Gill where they get a break, make friends, that matters. They don't know any different." It also gave Given a break from thinking about keeping goal for Newcastle, though in truth his came 48 hours earlier when he heard his name called out for the team that would play at Manchester City. Having seen Steve Harper come in while he was injured and perform admirably, Given, not a good spectator, was growing increasingly anxious. "When I found that out I was like a schoolkid again," he said, "so excited, hearing my name mentioned in the team again. You do miss that." Today against Everton should mark his 417th appearance for Newcastle – only five men have played more games for the club in its 115-year history – and Given remains as possessive about the No 1 jersey now as he was on his debut against Sheffield Wednesday in 1997. "I remember the game quite well," he recalled. "I remember Wednesday's goal, a Benito Carbone overhead kicked it into the bottom corner. They were pretty decent but we won 2-1 [Faustino Asprilla scored twice]. That was important for me because I was only 21 when Kenny Dalglish brought me to the club and Pav [Pavel Srnicek] was here and Shaka [Hislop] was here. For Kenny to play me in front of those two, who had a lot more experience, that gave me a big boost." And now, just as he has recovered the jersey, comes awkward word from Jussi Jaaskelainen's agent that the Bolton keeper would fancy joining his former manager Sam Allardyce on Tyneside. "I am sure there are a lot of goalkeepers' agents who would like their player to come to Newcastle," he said. "But Jaaskelainen's contract is up in the summer and with knowing Sam Allardyce from Bolton, people will put two and two together. I don't know what the manager's thinking. I go out and play for Newcastle as best I can and I hope I've proved I'm decent at what I do." Given's status – he is the only player near to Alan Shearer's popularity – offers no protection. He is part of the fabric but Newcastle are a changed club and a new manager is usually afforded licence to make changes. Given has been impressed by Allardyce's passion for sports science and the wearing of heart monitors in training: "But it's still about the football. What he's doing is trying to give us as best a chance as he can to win games." In broader terms, Given is happy with the takeover. Mike Ashley was introduced to the squad in the dressing room before the West Ham match, but there has been no chat with the senior players as yet. "Man United won the League and went and spent £80m. Where does that put Newcastle, who finished 13th? It will take time but having Mike Ashley with his financial power means we should be going in the right direction. Hopefully, the only way is up."

There's no "physical evidence whatsoever" because it's not right in front of your eyes to see - if you didn't find it so absurd, would you be forced to accept the evidence? Plenty of writings support the Bible, from both Christian and non-Christian sources. This includes eye-witness testimony from the Gospels. 24,000 manuscripts support the New Testament, and showing it hasn't been edited as is a common belief. Compare this to less than 20 for the writings of Plato et al. There are plenty of paintings and inscriptions. Archaelogical remains, such as the empty tomb have thrown up a lot of problems - even the most sceptical scholars in those days didn't deny Jesus' existence and that he died. Then we have inferential evidence, such as the transformed disciples, and how quite quickly Jesus made a pretty big religion to be fair. Now, are they not the sort of methods people uncover any historical events? Paintings and inscriptions from hundreds of years later? A convenient cave which proves it all? Manuscripts written later which support a new movement? The so called "eye witness" gospels were written at the very earliest 60 years after the supposed events. Its also indisputable that the four gospels were the work of an editorial committee which added and left bits out for political reasons. I've said before I think the bloke did exist - the existence of the religion is evidence for that but that of course says nothing about what he is supposed to have said and done which is taken as "gospel" - supernatural events aside. You seem to rise at Jimbo's use of "fairy tales" - can I ask what you think of the following?: The human race being descended from 2 people wished into existence. A world created in 6 days. A worldwide flood. A man being swallowed by a giant fish and living. 10 plagues being visited on a country. A woman being turned into a pillar of salt. All of the "miracles" of christ including the resurrection. The graveyards of Jerusalem opening up and the dead walking on JC's death. If these stories were intended to be metaphorical to teach morality (twisted in most cases) then the use of phrase "fairy tales" isn't that far off. If they were intended to be taken as fact (which I believe) then I think its fair to poke the obvious holes in them and condemn the book in that context. BTW that last one about the "zombies" provides an illustration about the way theists minds work. In Hitchens book he recounts how he asked someone whether they believed specifically in that event. The reply was that "Historically" he could not believe it but as a Christian he did believe it - try and tell me thats the work of a rational mind. And is there anry great evidence about the Gospels, paintings etc being years later? Some of the New Testament was written within maybe twenty years after Jesus died, and it's widely believed that most if not all was written within 100 years of his death. Also how is it "indisputable" work was edited? The rather large amount of manuscripts argues otherwise... Like I've previously said, I've no clue about those stories. What I seemed to rise at was the fact Jimbo is such an abusive arguer who made a completely irrelevant argument. That doesn't seem to bother you or anyone else though, because as far as you're concerned he is right. Isn't it all fairytales anyway, including the stuff about Jesus which is clearly meant to appear as the truth? Anyway, I'm not so sure what problems I tend to stir up here anyway - it's just me against a bunch of older people and when someone who is in his thirties if correct, like Jimbo, starts insulting me for no reason as he has done previously it's understandable I get a bit annoyed. Forgive me
