  3. ALAN SHEARER has this week made his first move as Newcastle's manager-in-waiting by lining up a double swoop for strikers Ched Evans and Fraizer Campbell. Shearer is likely to be installed by the end of the week as the search for a new owner at St James' Park nears completion. The former England skipper is favoured by all three groups bidding for control and has begun working behind the scenes to assemble a squad to get straight back into the Premier League. Available The list of 10 names that was distributed throughout Europe for players available for transfer was compiled with his blessing. Key figures Sebastien Bassong, Habib Beye and Steven Taylor were NOT on it, despite concerted efforts to unsettle the trio. And Shearer has upped the ante this week with a double swoop for the strikers who will replace Michael Owen, Mark Viduka and Oba Martins. Campbell's proposed move to Hull has been on hold for three weeks while a row over money has rumbled on with Manchester United. Competition That has given Shearer the chance to ask about the striker, 21. His interest was not discouraged, despite competition from Sunderland boss Steve Bruce. Similarly, he has set the wheels in motion to land Manchester City forward Evans. The 20-year-old struggled for opportunities at Eastlands last season but bagged 10 goals in 20 starts during a loan spell at Norwich and Shearer wants that kind of physical presence in his front line. He believes he could land the pair for less than £10million. However, Shearer's annoyance at the length of time it is taking to sort out the club ownership is rising and he has been forced to ask his targets to wait. Takeover Keith Harris, the man brokering the sale to end Mike Ashley's disastrous two years in charge, was hopeful a takeover was on the brink of conclusion on Thursday. However, problems over the level of the club's overdraft stalled a deal late on Friday evening. To speed up the process, Martins and Fabricio Coloccini are set to be sold this week French giants Lyon have lined up Martins as a direct replacement for Karim Benzema, who moved to Real Madrid for £35m. Bundesliga champions VfL Wolfsburg are also interested. Coloccini, who cost Newcastle a staggering £11m last summer when he arrived from Deportivo la Coruna, is the subject of a £4m bid from Galatasaray. An American consortium, shown around St James' Park and the club's training facilities on Monday remain in pole position to assume control at Newcastle. But a Malaysian group, who were in Toon on Thursday, have matched the £80m asking price.
  4. Rumour has it if the takeover is sucessful the new sponsor of Newcastle United will be: Northern Wok.
  5. To be fair, Marcus Evans the owner of Ipswich was a life-long Ipswich fan, but I take your point.
  6. The Guardian: Malaysian consortium reportedly makes £80m bid for Newcastle A Malaysian consortium reportedly submitted an £80m bid to Mike Ashley for control of Newcastle United yesterday. The Malaysians, who were shown round St James' Park on Thursday after watching the slightly bemused players being put through their paces at the training ground, seemingly made their offer on a day when Seymour Pierce, the investment bank brokering the sale, was also hoping for rival bids from at least two of the other three consortiums which have been carrying out due diligence at the club. All interested parties have signed non-disclosure agreements and their identities remain closely guarded secrets although Freddy Shepherd, Newcastle's former chairman, is involved with one of them. Another consortium, from the United States, had been regarded as the favourite but, when the Malaysians flew to London with Derek Llambias, Newcastle's managing director, on Thursday evening and immediately met Seymour Pierce, that perception changed. Ashley, who wants £100m for the club and will take a thumping loss on his investment, is likely to spend the weekend pondering his options but, before any substantive progress is made, one consortium will need to sign a sales-purchase agreement. That would set the takeover in full motion and allow the appointment of a manager – most probably, though not definitely, Shearer. Despite Seymour Pierce's optimism that a deal can be quickly concluded, nothing is certain and some observers fear that legal and financial barriers could dictate that things are destined to drag on for a few more weeks yet. Shepherd was on a golfing break in Portugal yesterday.

Fair play Craig, he came to us because we were the only club willing to take him on, thats not his fault, its not his fault that we were willing to offer such a lucrative wage, its not his fault his signed up for it, despite his injury record during his spell at the club he would constantly be picked out by cameras during his recovery during televised matches in his private box, often with his wife and daughter despite rumours of him traveling up by helicopter and never falling in love with the club as was expected. But what I will blame him for is his motivation to be fit for England internationals at the expense of prematurely injuring himself for his club, and using Newcastle United as his recovery team and as a vehicle for getting an England recall, and to the latter period looking generally non-comital to the cause of keeping his generous benefactor in the Premier League. As I said before, I bare no malice, he joined us out of a lack of alternatives, he never ever felt like our player, and never had the service and delivery from his team mates to show us truly what he could, now I fear he will.
  8. I wouldn't say I'm delighted at all, but I'm all for letting the Scottish be Scottish and letting the English be English providing they are not automatically labeled racists for daring to show as much national pride and national identity as the Scots.
  9. au contraire Mon Bon Visage Revealed: Man who wants Toon A RECLUSIVE Malaysian billionaire has jumped to the head of the queue to buy Newcastle. Media mogul Ananda Krishnan is closing in on a deal to end Mike Ashley's nightmare two-year Toon reign - and hopes to make an announcement early next week. The £95million deal for the club represents loose change to the 71-year-old, who is South East Asia's third-richest man worth £4.5billion. Other consortia remain in the running to buy the crisis club. But after making the first significant move in the drawn-out sale, Krishnan is the favourite to take control after meeting Ashley's drastically-reduced asking price - almost £40m less than the sportswear tycoon paid in 2007. The owner-in-waiting is believed to favour Alan Shearer to be the club's manager. Like Ashley, Krishnan has kept a low profile as he has built up a powerful business portfolio which includes major interests in oil, entertainment, telecoms and shipping. Over the years, he has donated millions of pounds to charities and a source said: "Mr Krishnan shuns public exposure and likes to keep a low profile for someone of his stature." Figures have yet to be confirmed but a significant kitty would be made available for Shearer to use in the transfer market.

I really couldn't give a shit, he never felt like our player, it just felt wrong from the moment he signed, and this isn't sour grapes or bitterness.

  13. Business as usual for players as Ashley moves closer to selling Newcastle As Newcastle United await the arrival of new owners and a new manager, Chris Hughton is striving to conjure an air of normality. While Derek Llambias, Newcastle's managing director, showed representatives of a Malaysian consortium around St James' Park yesterday the caretaker manager insisted it was business as usual on the training ground. Indeed Hughton maintains that his recently relegated players are perfectly capable of operating successfully in their own hermetically sealed world. "In many ways it was no different to any other pre-season," said Hughton after welcoming his charges – Joey Barton included – back to training. "The boys went well, the mood was upbeat and I was pleased. "The players want to get to work. They are professional enough not to let what is happening outside affect them. The focus now is on getting fit but they have looked after themselves well during the summer." On Sunday Hughton takes Newcastle to Dublin for a week-long training camp culminating in their first friendly, at Shamrock Rovers. By then, Mike Ashley might just have managed to sell the club but nothing is certain. Although there is no strict timetable for a sale, Seymour Pierce, the investment banker brokering the deal, hopes to receive an offer or offers from consortiums who have been performing due diligence on Newcastle by tomorrow. These will then be passed on to Ashley for the sports goods retailer – who wants £100m for the club – to consider over the weekend, and there may be significant developments by the middle of next week. While four consortiums signed non-disclosure agreements ahead of entering due diligence, three expressed serious interest in a purchase and, of that trio, two would be keen to install Alan Shearer as manager. The favourites are thought to be an overseas consortium, quite possibly from the United States. However there are several hurdles, both legal and financial, to be surmounted before Ashley finally exits, stage left.

  15.
