I don't like violent criminals, they should be harshly punished, but the police are an instrument for the very people who have a monopoly on "legitimate" violence. they don't make the laws, and it's not their fault they are ill equipped for the power they are given, so it's hard to blame them for that. the problem is the job turns the vast majority of them into arseholes, and the buck has to stop somewhere. so I don't shed tears given most of them probably deserve a good kicking anyway.
