Just had a smashing couple of days showing a German friend around the region. Tynemouth/Cullercoats/Whitley Bay, up to Cresswell and Druridge Bay, a spot of Hadrian's Wall too. Obviously the weather has helped, but still. He says he has no idea why Northumberland isn't heaving with tourists at this time of year (I know it can get busy - we couldn't get parked at Blyth of all places - but it's barely a fraction of what Cornwall and co. get), and I tend to agree. Not complaining though!

Hang on, I've just realised what Trump's crap nickname game reminds me of. Rention. manc-foplite.

Like Noah Lyles with Covid, you're just too slow

Never mind, I've just remembered Michael Johnson

Good thing Holloway won that because howay, you absolutely cannot have an Olympic track champion called something as mundane as Daniel Roberts

No medal for her tonight, but at least she can go back to her day job of asking people to select all squares with traffic lights.

They claimed they stumbled across the riot and just happened to join in, and would ordinarily be opposed to far-right ideology.

Pssst - that was just the qualifying. And you're only looking at one group of it.

Oh, but apparently I've chosen Alvarez. Best fix that...

Sorted. All of the players whose names begin with Z, and after that I'm allowed players whose names end in Z (which, admittedly, opens up some actually not shit choices).

Tricky language, Norwegian - can anyone translate?

Thought Hocker would get it as soon as Ingebrigtsen drifted wide on the final bend. Hell of a race though!

The BBC panel yakking on about what a medal feels like around your neck, while a 400m semi-final with a Brit in it happens behind them in the stadium. Fuck's sake

His tribute to the hero of the games was great

This isn't a joke, it's straight from CT's Facebook feed

Some nerd will have already made the edit in a draft and been ready to hit publish as soon as she crossed the line. Wiki wars are real.

It's doubly galling because it turns out a first-time clearance at 4.40 (!) would have been enough to get into the final, and Caudery was literally the only one who didn't come in until 4.55. There's nothing wrong with being confident as the world lead, but surely you'd look around at experienced people like Moon, Kennedy, Stefanidi, Murto, all of them deciding to have a go at 4.40, and think to yourself "maybe I should play it safe too?". Plus you've got Bradshaw struggling under the conditions, and Caudery literally went over and comforted her after she went out, so it's not like she was unaware. Baffling.
