  1. The club that finishes highest in the table goes straight into the group stage. The confusion at the moment is what happens if Chelsea win the CL (as the league gets awarded an extra spot in the EL). In that scenario do fourth and fifth bypass the qualifiers/play-offs or will it only be the fourth placed club that does?
  2. The release clause does exist, Pardew more or less admitted it was during the talk in, as Tom just said.
  3. Yeah, definite contender for pass of the season. Such vision and superb movement by Cisse.
  4. Difference is we've currently got a squad capable of continuing it next season (especially if it's added to in a couple of areas).
  5. If an admin changes his name to Dr Smiles or something along those lines, will 'gloomy' stop feeling that he has to live up to his (user)name?
  6. This will not end well. For that reason, I'm out (of the thread).
  7. Ooh hello. Sounds like there's a new deal on the table. http://www.sundaysun...9310-30810487/?
  8. Can an entire season be classed as a fluke? We've benefited from Arsenal, Chelsea and Spurs having bad spells, that's for certain. But it's been up to us to take advantage of that and take advantage we have.
  9. On a more serious note, I think this game will be a serious test. They've been very good as of late and can feel very hard done by after losing against Fulham. Regardless it's comfortably the easiest looking of the 4 games so it's a must-win.
  10. I don't think I've seen a NUFC side this universally liked/admired since Keegan's first era. Obviously we were a top club under Sir Bobby too but we've come a darker place this time round to be where we are at the moment. The media love us, fans of other clubs admire us and want us to do well. It's all a bit overwhelming. And it's not like we've come from nowhere, we've been decent all season long aside from a couple of dodgy spells during the winter period.
  11. fyp Fourth doesn't guarantee Champions League football.
  12. Am I right in thinking we've kept the second highest number of clean sheets this season?
  13. Again am desperate for third. It's certainly doable - the fact we have 12 points to play for as opposed to Arsenal's 9 could be crucial. As is their superior goal difference. Like jonasjuice says every game is a cup final now, we can't really afford to lose any of them (if we do then we're relying on other clubs to get results against our rivals). We won't settle for fourth (or fifth/sixth) fortunately.
  14. Saw the game on Football First in the end as it happens and we certainly tried for another goal or two, no settling yesterday. No setlling for a lead against West Ham last season either, or Wolves. My problem with settling for a lead can be summed up by one game - Wolves (h).
  15. Are you slyly insinuating that CT will owe us a chebs shot when (if?) we lose?
  16. As said in another thread, we're still well in with a shout of finishing third (which would be by a country mile the best result as fourth might not get CL/will have to qualify for the CL proper).
  17. As if Boro are still in with a chance of the play-offs (if they win and Cardiff lose their last game). My worst case scenario is them winning the play-offs and West Ham finishing above Southampton.
  18. Going to get stick for this - and no I haven't seen the game in any form - anyway, I'm a little disappointed we didn't score more than 3. With that said last time I checked our goal difference was still comfortably inferior to the sides around us so another goal or two might not make much of a difference. Yet with that said I recognise just how many goals we've scored this season - instead of getting a couple of big wins and then losing or drawing, we've spread our goals out across the matches. Also disappointed Ba didn't score but by all accounts he was superb regardless. As always as long he continues to apply himself in the right manner (i.e. not sulking), and his teammates keep scoring, it doesn't matter. He'll get his goal/s at some point over the next 3-4 weeks. Might be a penalty (haven't had one of those in a fair while), a chance to make up for Sunderland.
  19. Honestly haven't got a clue. It all depends on too many things - whether Chelsea win the CL this season, whether Spurs can find their early season form, whether Arsenal keep on being so inconsistent... Plus we play 3 strong teams, two away from home; one against a Chelsea side who will have something to play for unlike Everton. We also play Wigan who today aside have played their best football of the season as of late and doubled their win total for the season in a matter of weeks. We look good at the moment but there's a massive difference between the likes of Stoke and the likes of Man City. I'd be over the moon with fifth - as long as Chelsea don't win the CL, fifth place will go straight into the group stage of the EL. Much as I want to see us in European competition, not having to play a couple of games against some tiny European club in a qualifier wouldn't hurt.
  20. Some of the playacting in that match was hilarious. I think Ronaldo took home the Razzie for his "worm" late on.
  21. Think a lot depends on Arsenal's form over the next 5 (remember - they've played a game more than us, but they do have a better GD). Don't like to predict results for us but we might drop a few points in our remaining fixtures as they're all hard games (including an in-form Wigan, today aside). If Arsenal don't capitalise on that, should it happen, then we may have a good chance. And on the flipside we of course need to capitalise on their results should they go our way. Can't see Spurs getting third for the record.
