Aye 10-Nil. Easy. 15843 No, 1-0, probably converting the Jenas free kick. Anyway Gemmill, I was meaning to ask you this, I hope you're happy with yourself after Saturday's dismal performance. You must feel really proud. 15879 Yes I really enjoyed it thanks. I already feel like I've got my money's worth from my season ticket this year. As for converting the Jenas free kick, it's not like he was odds-on to score every time we got one. It's far more likely that it would have hit some poor bugger in Row P. 15910 Problem is we've got no-one to take them now. I'd be surprised if we score from a single free kick this year, which is a problem when you are desperate for goals.

Can't be proven either way, but I'm pretty sure we would have won yesterday with a wide man and free kick taker par excellence like Robert. But hey, we're much better off without the lazy French tw@t, aren't we?

If I was a good player, I would sign, but only because I am a Newcastle United fan. Otherwise the answer is an emphatic no. I would hate to play for that clueless, bullying scottish prick. And the sight of Shepherd now makes me physically sick.

Thing is, I have been saying for a while that players won't come to Newcastle because of Souness. But I have just finished reading Bobby's autobiography, and I am really concerned managers won't come to Newcastle because of Shepherd. Shepherd comes across as being a complete arsehole in that book. I know Robson has an axe to grind, but I think we all know what Shepherd is like from the media, straight from the horse's mouth, if you like. So the real concern is when (not if) Souness goes, who will put up with the fat, incompetent, meddlesome cnut as their boss? Not the best managers, I'm sure. And everyone will know what he's like form Robson's autobiography and, of course, from the man himself. All I can say is we'd better hope, even pray, Shearer can make the transition, otherwise we are finished. We have been going downhill for 2 years now, when are we going to hit the bottom? Not for a while yet, I fear. 15149 Fair point. Thing is, other clubs have shite chairman too. Would you prefer Bob Murray, Doug Ellis to name 2..and there are lots of others I don't want to make a long list ... how many managers would play for those ? They still do though. In spite of Shepherd, managers will take the job knowing they will have us the fans, and huge financial backing from Shepherd. Now thats a fact, because they all have had that. Off the top of my head, in spite of Shepherds faults, which mainly revolve around not keeping his gob shut, the only better chairman than Shepherd are at Chelsea, Arsenal, Liverpool, Smoggies, maybe Wigan, the new manu and spurs we will have to wait and see. Not a lot is it. Shepherds main fault is he has, apart from Bobby Robson, picked the wrong managers. 15242 Hmmm, I agree up to a point, but its interesting that you've listed three out of the current top four there (i.e. the successful ones), and of course the takeover of ManU is a recent event and we await its impact, as you said. Most the others are anonymous, I really don't know what they are like as chairmen, but I get the feeling they don't interfere as much as Shepherd. I worry this is what will put people off.

Well, perhaps Souness can have as much bad luck as Robson did last year, and will suffer the same fate. Then we can get O'Neill in and start going forward again. Yeah, right, I know.

Problem is, listening with ear plugs directs all the sound straight into your ears. The human body quickly gets desensitized to sound, so to retain the effect of, say Franz Ferdinand, you have to turn the volume up. And up. Before you know it you hit the maximum. Another problem is that most use hardly any batteries or rechargeable batteries. In the olden days, my walkman use was restricted by the cost of batteries! Not any more. I just listen to my mp3 player when I'm walking, to take the edge off boredom. Probably about an hour a day, not too much I hope.

I love the level of scientific accuracy there. What's next? "Some personal music players (if you put them through huge fucking amplifiers) - 7 trillion decibels"? 14528 Aye, and I refuse to believe there's only 5 decibels difference between listening to your iPod loud, and standing next to a fucking jet engine. 14535 It's a logarithmic scale though. Makes pefect sense.

Cook and Mowlam, both in their 50s, dead within the space of a month. That's no age to die.

Does anybody say: Jesus H tap dancing christ or have I completely made that up?

It was horse shit man! 4&3 on a par. Then 2. All copies of the first series should be detroyed. 13735 I think you are forgetting i am officially "the expert of all comedy" and my decision is final, even if i did just give myself the title and if i say its good it is Its really sepreate from the others, different writing, style, approach etc. but the fact remains it is good, just not as good as the following 3 series. 13737 Well I'm obviously a weirdo, because I liked 1 the most, then probably followed by 4, 3 and finally 2, which I really didn't like much. Thinking back on it I still get a smile thinking of 1, where Blackadder was a complete hopeless case, decapitating the king, that cod piece, etc. Also I reckon it had a more lavish production cost, with outdoor sets etc. Anyway, if it truly was horse shit, it would have never made a second series, would it? 13740 The first series did have massive production costs and was shot like a film rather than a tv series. This lead to them being told to seriously trim down the costs and change the style if they were to get another series and of course they brought in Ben Elton as co-writer. As a massive Blackadder fan i don;t think series 1 matches the others but it is and alwasy will be underrated. 13742 As you say, it is noticably different to the others. Which is better is then just a matter of opinion, I obviously prefer hopeless cases like the original Black Adder compared to his suave and witty contempories! Would explain why I love the character of David Brent so much too, and his side kick Gareth. Not to mention Frank Spencer.

The jury's still out maybe, but I thought the last episode of Extras was brilliant. Well done to Les Dennis for letting himself appear as such a sad case.

Official Match thread: Arsenal V Newcastle
Renton replied to Scottish Mag's topic in Newcastle Forum
I know you're ever the optimist but surely you can't be serious? I thought Henry had a real off day as well to be honest. -
You obviously didn't watch the match. Newcastle were matching arsenal all the way, if not better, until that baldy nonce decided to makle his rash decision on an incident he didn't even see. If he had consulted his linesman instead of reaching into his pocket as quick as he reaches into his bag of sweeties outside the school gate then he mightn't have fucked the whole game. The mans a simpleton it's plain to see and if justice is done he'll be refereeing in the championship for the rest of the season. Forgive me if I'm wrong but isn't this the same pric who refereed the Boro game last season and failed to spot the crying dutchmans hand ball which cost us another 2 points. The birch would be to good for this baldy bastard. How is the ref going to favour us for the west ham game? Do you know something we dont or is it just more of your drivell. Why don't you do us a favour and wipe that brown stuff off your chin 12420 I agreed the ref made at least two bad mistakes, all I said was we should get on with it and over it. Newcastle are regarded as a big club, and sometimes we get the rub of the green against smaller clubs, especially at home games (eg West Ham). You're probably too blinkered to see that. I've also said at least once on here that we deserved something from the match, probably not 3 points mind as we never really looked like scoring, even with 11 men. No idea what you mean by your last comment, or how that can relate to my first post. Cheers mate.

I thought Baba looked solid. Carr was awful though. 12348 Not like me to agree with you, but.... I agree! Still think that he was probably just trying to impress his Landern mates though [edit: I mean Baba]. When people keep harping on about us needing a left back, they should look at our right back. Carr is shit, and injured almost as much as Baba (why sell Hughes, why?). I've got an awaful feeling that Taylor will be used as "cover" for our full backs a lot this season - what a waste.
-
I general don't get as worked up as other people do about referee decisions. He made a [bad] mistake, and possibly another bad one. But does anyone seriously suggest he did it on purpose? In all honesty, despite a great performance yesterday, we would have probably lost regardless. We need to get rid of our excuses, and concentrate on the West Ham match, where the ref will probably favour us.
-
Well I agree with you if that helps.

It's funny how people think it's ok to make homophobic remarks like this. You wouldn't say 'that black ****' and expect to get away with it, so why do you think what you've wrote above is ok? 12279 The only potentially offensive part of that post from wykikitoon was the use of the 'c' word. It's funny how people don't get upset by bad language in posts, use of the 'c' word in particular, and yet get upset by a harmless reference to 'gay'. 12288 I think calling someone a 'gay cunt' is offensive. You think it's harmless. 12291 To be more accurate, you think mentioning the word 'gay' is offensive. I don't. I think calling someone a 'c***' is offensive. You don't. Calling someone a 'gay c***' is offensive because of the use of the foul language, not because of the word gay. 12314 In your opinion, I disagree. 12315 Ok, just to be clear on what you're saying. If a person known to be gay is described as such by someone, that's offensive. If a person is described by another as a 'c***', that isn't offensive. I can't ever agree with that particular strange set of standards. Even putting this on one side, because I expect some people will find both offensive, I'm wondering why you're upset by use of the gay word, but don't appear to care about people using the c*** word. Is this a word you find acceptable in general conversation, while getting on your moral soapbox when people mention the word gay? 12317 Is Lundberg deinitely gay though? And can I now say that Ambrose is???

Just back from the match (spent the night in London), and have to say that on balance I am relieved. After watching thqat performance, I think we have too much quality to get relegated, and if it hadn't been for the referee, I think we would have nicked a point. Still some concerns though: We effectively "neutralised" them, and hardly gave them a sniff all day. However, we never looked capable of scoring. Never. This is worrying, we need to sign a striker desperately before the window closes. I'm not convinced this wasn't a one-off good performace, like Boro last year. West Ham is the crucial match. Interesting. Even though they always win, we always play well aginst Arsenal. I'm fairly sure ManU or Chelsea would have slaughtered us yesterday. Still credit where it's due, if it hadn't been for a baldy cheating bastard we would have derailed Arsenal at the start of the season (Sky wouldn't have liked that, hmmm). Having watched them, and their lamentable captain, I reckon they will come 4th this year. And if league position was reflected by the quality of the fans, they would be beneath Carlisle. Mr Souness, you put up a good fight. But we need at least 3 ponts against West Ham, or you are out. And that pressure will be with you for the rest of the season. All your fault, you put us where we are (currently bottom of the league, with Portsmouth).

Re the bit in bold, does this mean that's it, this is the team we have until Christmas? 11214 No neccessarily, the transfer windows open beyond Sunday's game. Thought you would have known that to be honest 11217 Well yes, but I'm worried this is effectively what it means. I mean we're getting a bit short of time which ever way you look at it, and surely it makes more sense to buy players before one of the most difficult matches of the year. Also, I am reminded of last year, and expect Shepherd to say any minute now "we will be flabbergasted" at who's coming in soon.
-
This from .com (Souness quote): Re the bit in bold, does this mean that's it, this is the team we have until Christmas?
-
I don't think Shepherd would deliberately want us to do badly to push down the share price, but it would seem he is in a win win situation which is hardly healthy.
-
Beat me to it Good news if it's true though. 11037 Well, its a lot of money. Only good news if we also get a quality striker imho.
