Aye, right. He'll unleash the hounds behind the scenes. Also I do feel terribly for what has happened to Jamie Wallis, but its a shame he couldn't come out before his crisis which might have made his disclosure inevitable. That's not a criticism I might add, I appreciate how difficult it must be for him/her.

Yeah. Growth can't be sustained at those levels. You have to look what comes before it. For instance, if the previous half decade saw a drop, you're doing incredibly badly if you don't see a big rise. Like now, for instance.
-
I don't see anything unusual in that time period? Lower growth, quite evenly spread amongst earning deciles, resembles the 1970s, but no contraction. Noticeably that was on top of huge growth prior without a crash, so everybody is happy.

Hmm, I'm not convinced by his last few paragraphs. I don't believe economic growth, in terms as we define it now, can go on indefinitely. Plenty know this. I don't believe the super wealthy should exist. I don't accept these individuals should be allowed to own the media. I don't have answers on how to stop itthough . Alluding to this,I found this quote interesting. I came across this other Guardian article, originally penned 8 years ago, but based on data forecasts from the early 1970s. Scientists then did some modelling which so far has proven very accurate to what has happened on Earth concerning population growth and resource use. It predicts our economies will collapse entirely, starting in the 2020s. Is this plausible, is it already happening? I don't know, but I'm not dismissing it. https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2014/sep/02/limits-to-growth-was-right-new-research-shows-were-nearing-collapse

Quoting myself but have a look at this graph which maps changes to standard of living as well as inequalities in this, by PM and electoral terms. Look at how under Thatcher wealth inequality increased massively. Look at the Blair years, especially the early ones, where wealth increased across the board, for all. Then look at the performance of the shambolic performance of the more recent tories, especially Johnson, which shows consistent declining living standards for everyone, but especially the poorest. Some of Johnson's figures are projected but imo they're probably over optimistic given the energy crisis.
-
Or more likely Jamie will be hounded out the party unfortunately. Johnson won't give this up as a wedge issue.
-
Things are about to get very hard for a lot of people. I read somewhere that by next Christmas literally half the population will be in fuel poverty. I doubt cost of living will be resolved in 2 years. I think the tories are fucked whoever is in charge. Johnson has no heir, and too many of the cabinet are too closely linked to him to distance themselves. That leaves who, Hunt, maybe? Not that I'm happy, they've well and truly fucked us up for a generation now. I've given up caring. The public get what the public want.

I'll watch it f I get a chance, not keen on 4 OD mind. I was 11 when this kicked off, as a kid it was pretty exciting. Looking at wiki, what amazes me is how quickly we mobilised the task force. It set sail about 3 days after the invasion, including the commissioning of the Canberra. How the fuck were those logistics possible?

What's this about? It's paywalled.

In case anyone doesn't know, Boiling Point with Stephen Graham is already on Netflix. It's a one shot film 1 1/2 hours in length. Besides this fact it's okay, but knowing how it was made makes it a technical masterpiece, if nothing else. Has Stephen Graham ever done anything duff in his career?

Yeah, I agree. I think it is wise to give Putin some form of off ramp to save face but at the same time give him nothing that is a political or military advantage. Not sure how this can be done, and Russia should absolutely have to face some of the consequences of reparations. UN controlled referenda in the contended areas may be an option? In reality though, Biden is right although he should have controlled his emotions and spoke with intelligence, not knee-jerk. There can be no satisfactory resolution to this whilst Putin is in charge.
-
I honestly couldn't give a shit what the ultra-privileged Hollywood hypocrite circle jerk cunts say or do. Hate the Oscars and all these award ceremonies. Get to fuck man.
-
More widespread use of chemical weapons? Have I missed something here, or are you referring to the Syrian campaign? I've always thought chemical weapons are a bit of a red herring, used for political rather than military reasons. They won't help him win this war. Tactical nukes I just can't see it. Again, they have little military value. You can get some very low yield weapons of about 0.1 kT but they're too indiscriminate to be tactically useful and release radiation that can kill your own troops. This leaves strategic nuclear missiles to worry about. You just have to hope the Russian safeguards in Russia are sufficient they can't be launched without us directly attacking their country. And Putin, unlike Hitler, has offspring.
-
Have you seen Winter on Fire on Netflix? This whole war was caused by Ukraine's potential ascension to the EU in 2014.
-
So okay, that would mean entry of the Ukraine to the EU. Which was kind of what the whole war was about. Can't see that happening either. Thing is, Putin is a dictator. When he talks of existential threats to Russia, he really means existential threats to himself. If this is a ploy to instigate an internal coup, fair enough. Otherwise its not happening imo.
-
Who would pay for reparations? I don't think sanctions should end until Russia is fully democratised and they have paid for wvwry life.they have taken and window they have broken.
-
And then went on to calll him a butcher. Putin continues to talk about using nukes. Good chance things will escalate it seems, one way or another.
-
She's not a labour MP anymore. But proof were any more needed that Brexit has well and truly poked the hornets nest in NI. Who could have foreseen this?
-
The exact same percentage that voted for Putin, coincidentally, I'm sure.
-
Proximity. Likelihood of escalation into something that will materially affect us. Maybe kill us I think they're pretty good reasons tbh. I'm not well informed by the war in Yemen, which I know isn't a territorial invasion, so that's one difference. But from what I've read of the Houthis they are no friends of us and I wouldn't want them as neighbours. This is there flag. "Allah is Greater, Death to America, Death to Israel, Curse on the Jews, Victory to Islam"

And i was genuinely interested in what more you thought we should do. The lat thing I want right now is an argument. I don't have any answers. My only point was that things have gone better for Ukraine so far than i had feared early days. And much worse for Russia. Makes me think our actions are corectly balanced. Stilll terrible for many Ukrainians though, obviously.
-
Saw that earlier. Its really hard to take this world seriously sometimes nowadays. Come on, who up there is taking the piss?
-
I think it's almost impossible for any of us to imagine how hard this is for you and your family MF. Thankfully it's something very few of us have to face. And time is strange, 20 years ago for me feels like last week and if you're anything like me you'll easily get dragged back into the moment. Wishing you, your mam, and family, all the best.

A bit unnecessary this like. As if anyone likes what is happening in Ukraine. I don't think we're exactly passive observers in though. We're (the west) are supplying Ukraine with weapons they can win the war with, have put sanctions on Russia which will ruin their economy, are rapidly going to wean ourselves off Russian energy to ruin their future rvonkmy and war machine, and have isolated them in sport and culture. Besides engaging them in conflict and risking WW3 I don't know what else we can do. If WW3 were to happen, it would be worse for billions, including Ukrainians, surely.
