That is possibly one of the worst articles I have ever read, just about wrong on every count. Russia isn't essential to the west, whilst it is rich in energy and some minerals, these can all be sourced from elsewhere whilst we wean ourselves off Russian gas. Putin literally can't sell that gas to anyone but the EU due to geographical reasons either, similar even for oil which is exported through Holland. Russia is a small economy and before our eyes we can see they are not a super power militarily except for nuclear weapons. Putin has won? Let's revisit in 6 months.

This explains her mistake.

It's not just the facts they are cunts, its the bare faced lying, as Alex alluded to. Honestly, if you voted for this, you should be ashamed.

Honestly Craig, it's nearly 30 years (Jesus I'm old) since I did any orthopaedics, or any clinical stuff at all for that matter. J69 would probably know better as he has a clinical background (albeit mental health) but also played/coached football at a decent level iirc. Obviously let the acute injuries heal, once the pain stops I'm sure he will be able to tolerate physio to his benefit. Probably looking at a couple of months out the game though I'd think. You already know rushing him back probably isn't wise.

She was quite ill on Saturday (classic symptoms), but is on the mend now. She's out and about potentially infecting neighbours by posting thank you cards (I can't stop her). I actually forgot to say, on Saturday morning she had all the symptoms, my brother had just tested positive, yet she claimed she was negative on LFT. Unconvinced, I did another LFT with her, and lo and behold, it was positive. Turned out she was taking the swab straight out the sterile package and putting it in the solvent, bypassing any actual sampling. As if it worked by telepathy. I mean, I want to say she isn't stupid, but fuck me.

On the other hand, ONS survey data today shows 97% of the population have antibodies now. So it looks like "herd immunity" has happened, just that herd immunity doesn't work because you can get this several times! The death rate is also impossible to contextualise now, with prevalence so high. Around the new year, around 40% of the deaths recorded the deaths were likely incidental to covid (i.e. not caused bu it), it might well be higher now. Anecdotally though, a lot of my elderly family (70s, 80s) contracted it last week but none are yet seriously ill. IF we don't get a variant which has a more lethal phenotype (which is the most likely possibility imo, but by no means certain), we are now effectively out of this. On the other hand, we're all getting nuked anyway, so you know, swings and roundabouts.

Fuck me, I never thought I would agree with a Ken post. Spot on there cobber.

This is nonsense though. The Russian economy will be destroyed, its only months away from total bankruptcy as it is. His weapons are obsolete against NATO's. How will he have the whip hand in Europe? He can't even take Ukraine man. Nuclear war is not inevitable, that's a fairly hysterical over-reaction, and that's coming from me. Ommmmm.
-
I think there are plenty of people that can stop him launching ICBMs. A tactical nuke is of more concern. I haven't got a clue what happens in that situation, the risk of escalation to outright nuclear war would be huge, but why would Putin want that? He has 6 kids. I think you're catastrophising a bit here and should adopt my new zen-line persona. Ommmmmmm.
-
This is definitely a concern like.

It's funny how my thought processes have changed over time. As a kid, I was emphatically against nuclear weapons, supported unilateral disarmament etc. When I got older, it was my opinion that these same weapons, through MAD, were the only thing stopping a third world war with the USSR, and therefore were a good thing. Now with Putin and Russia in the 21st century, it appears to me that Russian conventional forces are full of piss and wind and NATO would annihilate the Russian federation in a square go due to our technological superiority. But we can't do this because of the threat of nuclear war. I think on balance the West are doing all the right things presently (other than our abysmal failure on housing refugees).
-
I don't know, because his situation is unprecedented. I suspect probably a coup after a popular uprising, even a civil war in Russia. What I do know is nearly all dictators come to gruesome ends.
-
Well, we can't stop the Russian propaganda but it's not like North Korea, they can't stop tech savvy people knowing the truth. I think Putin has already lost. Whatever the outcome of the war, and I actually think he will lose that anyway in any meaningful sense. What do you think he's going to win? Ukraine is a tragedy, but its the people of the country who are standing up to this invasion, it's their choice. I salute them all and can only wonder if I would do the same for my country. I hope yes. Accepting a puppet regime would be a terrible outcome for them imo. This way they have a chance of freedom. I hope when this is over (putin is gone), the west can help rebuild their country and they can become fully integrated with the EU. That's worth fighting for. Incidentally, I've just started watching Winter on Fire on Netflix about the roots of this conflict. I was completely ignorant as all this passed me by at the time.

We'll see how sustainable this is in a "modern"* country of 180 million in 2022 I guess. I don't think it can be. * Modern in terms of technology and integration into global networks. The truth cannot be completely masked and kids who know how to use VPNs will be wanting to know why Maccy Ds has really closed.

Sounds like Patel is get a hoofing in her absence in the commons (she was too scared to go). Tory back benchers are beginning to turn on this corrupt government, whether they will have the guts to pull the rug is another thing (we already know they don't).

I've got a horrible feeling it was either the Mission or Erasure! Both in 1987ish, city hall. The latter my then girlfriend had won the tickets in a Metro Radio phone in, it was brilliant in any case with Andy Bell strutting his stuff. Went to University the following year, did ENTS, and attended hundreds of gigs. Can't be arsed now and hate large venues.
-
This is why I'm personally more optimistic now. From what I've read I don't think he could bypass the checks and balances to launch a pre-emptive strike if NATO don't attack. Also, who really wants to kill their own children and country? I just can't see it but there's fuck all I can do to influence it so I'm no longer going to worry about it.

Other Games 21/22: Talk about Actual Football
Renton replied to Ayatollah Hermione's topic in Newcastle Forum
Football sage my arse. What's the denominator here? How many rubbish predictions has he made? I mean, @Gemmill thought Souness was the right man to replace SBR ffs! -
Been a huge rise in student houses and HMOs in Jesmond last decade. The footage on this is pretty bad, looks more akin to Magaluf than anything I remember. It's odd, Jesmond is Newcastles most affluent suburb but has more antisocial behaviour orders than anywhere else in the North East. On paper worse than Meadowell, Pennywell, Byker, even Boldon.
-
Students in suburbia (we are England) right now on BBC about Jesmond student scum spoiling it for us middle aged-class types. Worth a watch.
-
What does this mean for Russia and its citizens in practical terms? Putin has made a massive blunder, he's finished one way or another. Just a question of how many people he takes down with him.
-
Hands up (or should I say down) who's trying to emulate that gif? My tendons don't work that way? Would make a great hand shadow show for the kids mind.
-
Got to be said, the timing of world crises that have distracted from Johnson to his personal benefit is sickening. Partygate completely swept under the carpet, and he is still free to lie and shame our country with impunity. Absolutely sickening.
-
To put it another way, we have rejected 99.5% of applicants. Beyond shameful.
-
Asprilla is now backing Putin by using the good old Ukrainian neo-nazi meme (i.e. lie) I see. Honestly, up to you, but why you want to converse with this guy is beyond me.
