  1. I was going off what it used to be but for the Europa Conference there was a spot for the winner. I haven’t heard any official news we’re in it though if Man Utd secure a CL / Europa League spot.
  2. Aye. I think in past at least you need to win it but you can get a spot in Europe by being runners up in the FA Cup if the winners qualify for the CL. I think we’ll get a European spot though
  3. I think they came 5th under Reid (twice in a rowah iirc). But, aye. Also they should all make a killing at the bookies if they’re confident of promotion given you can get 20/1 on it happening this season. Edit: just checked and you’re right - it was 2 years in a row they came 7th.
  4. The only thing Baker has gotten emotional about lately is his Russian funding being stopped
  5. I think that’s rubbish tbh. Batting again would’ve been arguably more aggressive. Asking bowlers to bowl again in a back to back test when two of them are the age they are was just complacent and a bit stupid. I’m not saying you’re talking rubbish as I think you’re right - that will be their justification for their actions but I messaged Tooj at the time saying it was the wrong call. This talk about being blessed to have played in that match, even on the losing side. It’s top level sport and it’s about putting your opponents away. If it was one or two other countries people would be checking the betting activity
  6. I suppose the other way to look at it is we’re building gradually and supposing we make the CL. Then you’re in a competition you haven’t got a cat in hells chance of winning, with (even with best will in the world in terms of additions this summer) a squad nowhere near being able to compete on all fronts. I’m canny chilled about it tbh because I think it’s inevitable we’ll become an established top 6 side but it might take a few years. The state the club was in (in all areas) might mean doing it over 3/4 years at least. Obviously I’m nee spring chicken and would like to see success asap but a lo of people have no realism when assessing what should be done / timescales. Which I get because if you’re not emotionally attached as a fan there’s not a lot of point in supporting a team tbh

  8. It’s probably also worth pointing out that, on recent form and performances, Man Utd are probably one of the top 5 sides in Europe.
  9. I think their quality obviously showed on the day. But you could argue our not having much of a sniff in their third boils down to Wilson. He’s been one of the top 3 players at the club since he arrived. But he’s been really struggling of late and it’s hard to think of anyone who had a worse game on Sunday. It just about sums his performance up that he played Casemiro onside for the first. I think the convoluted point I’m trying to make is we were probably only a player or two away from giving them a real match
  10. Well one goal was a deflected shot that wasn’t going in. Karius didn’t have a lot to do. Great set piece for their goal though. De Gea made a good save from Maxi but it was good positioning. If that shot was a matter of 6 inches higher he probably doesn’t have a hope of saving it. xG will never tell the whole story of a match (like how they were able to sit on their 2 goal cushion in the second half). But it’s still a good indicator of how a match has played out
  11. Mad to enforce the follow on. It was the only way they could realistically lose
  12. Good retort Tbf. Does anyone actually take any notice of True Faith any more? We didn’t lose that match because of a losing mentality.
  13. Admittedly this is (aptly) tallest dwarf in the circus stuff. But the crack in Whitehall amongst the departments is that Sunak is preferable to his two predecessors. Due to his belief in evidence-based policy, as opposed to being driven purely by ideology
  14. I remember seeing a praying mantis in Australia and being quite chilled / fascinated. Then I nearly shit my pants when it took off. I didn’t know they could fucking fly!!!
  15. I thought Burm was better second half. He pushed on more because he had to. Alright he’s not going to create a lot but we know that anyway. Also he looked nervous first half. There was one time where he had a chance to go in and win the ball, hesitated and got done by a bit of trickery. Second half the situation kind of released the pressure. He had more of a nothing to lose mentality and went thundering into challenges. That’s the way he needs to play tbh. I’m not advocating him snapping players in half because you’ll just get a straight red but he’s better getting stuck in when the ball’s there to be won. Mouth of the Tyne is a fucking gobshite tbh and he’s not saying anything anyone with half a brain and a functioning pair of eyes couldn’t suss out. All of our threat has been down the right all season.
  16. Yeah. I’m sure there’s a good reason for it. We can get more if we’re a CL team and we’re still in with a shout there. Not got a clue about accounting etc but perhaps there’s a need for it to be done after the season end. Maybe they want everything to be absolutely double checked from a legal pov too.
  17. Didn’t watch it. I see there’s a rematch though because of course there is Also read the WBC were going to give the winner a top 40 ranking what a load of fucking shite boxing is these days
  18. It’s left us short in the short term to give us much more leverage in the summer though. Thing is - who’s to say anyone would buy Wood for that sort of fee in the summer? Then you might be saddled with a forward who was just a stop gap. Shelvey had that extension clause and would be difficult to move on too if that had been triggered. What if Maddison or a similar type of player wasn’t available but us in the summer? Obviously that’s hypothetical but if Maddison is a target it’s unlikely Leicester would’ve sold him in January and jeopardise PL status. January isn’t the ideal time to buy. 12 months ago was different as we were absolutely desperate to get bodies in. Re: Gordon. That was securing a long term target who was eventually available at the price we were willing to pay. I know what you mean about certain clubs performing below what you’d expect, meaning a top 4 spot is potentially up for grabs. But the club’s only fucked up if they chose not to sign the right sort of players in the last window. Which seems unlikely. The other thing is we’ll definitely come under more scrutiny than anyone around FFP.
  19. I think letting Wood go was a no brainer tbh. The fee and the knock-on of getting those wages off the book. He was in dreadful form when he left too. I really don’t think he was capable of making much of a different in the second half of the season. Then even if he’s not an out and out 9 you have Isak and I think I read Gordon can play anywhere across the front 3.
  20. Re: Wilson it’s a worry because missing chances is one thing but he doesn’t look near to getting on the end of things. I actually think it’s the biggest factor in our struggle to break teams down at the minute.
