  1. horrible news. loved him. talk about a sweet left foot.
  2. not his natural position though is it? i think he could make it work. he scores goals and is less of a natural lone striker than cisse - seems to prefer making runs from deeper areas. but i wonder if a more natural wide player would be better suited to that position.
  3. interesting read that. the diet isn't unlike my previous efforts cutting. interesting you do no cardio at all. i try to do boxing once or twice a week in addition to 3 or 4 weight lifting and kettle bell sessions what hours do you eat and what hours do you fast? is it 12-8 or something? i always used to eat cottage cheese just before bed for slow release protein overnight but that would contradict the fasting theory. how much of a part do you think diet plays over training? is it 60 or 70 per cent diet? you mentioned earlier that drinkng is fine as long as you don't eat a kebab on the way home. i don't get that. a pint of beer is about 300 kcals. 6 or 7 of those are just dead calories, no? are do you stick just to vodka and soda/slimline tonic?
  4. Jonas is in the first team on merit. As far as the system goes, 433 seems to suit us better. But if we play that way there's an argument for only playing one of Ba or Cisse and playing two natural wide men with one line striker.
  5. Gutted if we lose him but that's the way of the world with Ashley. Every player is for sale if the price is right. At least this Anita kid looks like he can fill his boots.
  6. i agree with that but i'm not going to lose too much sleep over missing out on douglas just yet. not when you look at the comparative lack of competition at full back and up front. if or when the dembas fuck off to the african cup of nations we're looking at the ameobi brothers as our first choice strikers. and full back is clearly our weakest area when you consider simpson, santon, r taylor and at a push either anita or jonas are competing for two places. a couple of injuries there and we're not looking to clever all of a sudden.
  7. it's a squad game. it's good to have competition for places and players that aspire to break through to ther first team but ultimately every squad needs players like williamson that know they're third or 4th choice.
  8. williamson's really not that bad though is he? he's not a liability like bramble and boumsong were. he's not the quickest or the best on the ball but he's solid in the air and did a decent job last season alongside colo in the main. all you need to do is look at the goals against column - one of our best in years. in an ideal world we'd have better quality reserve centre half than williamson. but i'm not sure you're going to get a better player than him happy to sit on the bench for a team not in the champions league. and especially not for the kind of fees and wages we pay. and to be honest, i have no clue if this douglas kid is better suited to the premiership than williamson anyway. let's see how he does at fulham, could be another brian ruiz tbh
  9. i think chemo will be looked back on as a pretty barbaric form of treatment. ok, there's nothing out there presently that treats cancer better. but there must surely be some advances at some stage that will lead to a form of treatment that doesn't present so many side effects and risks.
  10. Man City's Adam Johnson targeted by Liverpool, Spurs & Sunderland http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/19334874 adam johnson is a player i've always thought we shoudl be in for. local lad. would slot into a 4-3-3 system nicely. i'd love to see him and ben arfa on the flanks, swapping wings and pinning back full backs. transfer fee and wages would probably deter us though
  11. williamson isn't shit; neither's perch for that matter, they both did a good job last season. not saying they're world beaters but they've shown they can perform as part of a solid defensive unit in the premier league. if the transfer pot is limited - as has been the case in most transfer windows while ashley's in charge - then we're better off spending the cash on a full back and striker. and seriously, who's to say this douglas kid is even that good? i have no clue if he'll cut it in the premier league. i've seen enough of debuchy to know he looks a quality player. if we get debuchy and carroll in and don't sell anymore players, we'll have had a belter window. a central defender would be a bonus.
  12. my wife worked with someone who was on chemo and died from a catching a cold which led to an infection that killed him because his immune system was so low. it's not one of those drugs that will definitely cure you. and it can make things a lot worse, and even kill you sooner than the cancer might. but ultimately it's all about the percentages. if i was diagnosed with cancer while young and otherwise healthy, i'd probably go for it.
  13. i'll take a pm. intrigued. i've been down at 10 per cent before. but i never sustain it. i have to live like a monk to get there and am too prone to junk at weekends. 12 per cent seems to be my natural resting home.
  14. interesting; when i started training properly a few years back, a nutritionist friend of mine advised me to ditch the three big meals a day and eat more frequent meals - 6 small-ish meals a day, including snacks, to keep the metabolism ticking over, avoiding large portions which lead to over eating. these days, i try to eat clean but basically eat when i'm hungry, which is pretty much all the time because i'm doing a bulking phase. every two hours or so i'll have something. the fasting thing is something i've never considered.
  15. if i was over a certain age and was diagnosed with cancer i'd probably say no to chemo too. who needs it if you've already had a decent-ish innings? same goes for radiotherapy. i know someone that had lung cancer. the chemo got rid of it but the radiotherapy left her with serious brain damage. a tragic situation. as far as forms of treatment go, radio and chemo therapy are pretty fucking savage. but then so is cancer. it's a horrible choice to have to make. but there's no disputing the fact that lots of drugs on the market do their job with way more managable side affects.
  16. at present, our centre halves to call on are colo, taylor, williamson, perch, simpson plus the new aussie kid. you could argue full back and striker are areas that need addressing more urgently, particularly with the two dembas potentially away in the new year to the acn.
  17. Merge with generic transfer thread tbh
  18. So a punk rock band is found guilty of playing an anti-putin protest song in a church. What a shambles the Russian judicial system is. OK Russia, you're going to have to stop pretending you're anything even remotely resembling a modern democracy.
  19. If we can hang on to tiote our midfield is looking pretty strong now. Just need a quality full back, striker and no further outgoings and it's looking like our best squad for some time.
  20. your use of pish and blather is the giveaway - textbook welsh speak.
  21. if we chalk up debuchy and carroll, or a different striker, and lose no more players, we can consider it an excellent window.
