Just got back from a trip with work to Athens doing a piece ahead of the election on Sunday. Got to say that the Greeks are some of the nicest, most hospitable people I've met. I interviewed about 8 people and they were all so friendly - offering endless coffee, food, offering to buy lunch, recommending places to visit. It really doesn't seem right that they're on the brink. I've only ever been to the islands before this trip. I'm defo coming back to explore the mainland one day. The only place that compares in terms of how friendly the people are that I've been to is Thailand or Laos.

PS - it's a pretty negative way to set up the side but that's modern football for you. chelsea just won the champions league playing like that. the stats/chances column look appalling but when you reduce the opposition to so few clear cut chances, you have to say it's a plan well executed, albeit not the most exciting or stylish brand of football.

we were way better than i thought we'd be but we gave the ball away far too easily - nothing new there. the side was organised and compact, and we restricted france to few chances. easy to see why we were set up to be that cautious given it was the first game and against france. but i'd like to see a bit more adventure in the next games. walcott or defoe should start ahead of milner next game. and i still can't quite work out how we got to the point where henderson is first choice reserve centre mid.

they're both good enough to play either side. chelsea used to play like that with cole or duff on one flank and robben on the other but often swapping sides in the middle of the game. nightmare for defenders.

guthrie's a good squad player. he's not let anyone down when he played last season. i'd keep him.

adam johnson would be a class signing. him one side and ben arfa on the other in a 4-3-3 with cisse in the middle would be scary.

i'm definitely supporting england but i'm far less excited or bothered than in previous tournaments. the no-show in south africa combined with some of the odious twats playing for the side have combined to leave me feeling largely apathetic towards them. i'll probably jump on the bandwagon if we get past the group stage tough. i won't even see the match tonight as i'll be at work. i'm definitely far from one of those soopa fan types who insist they'd rather toon won a throw in than england win a trophy.
