My mate Kevin Ridley lead singer for Skyclad got twenty-five musicians from bands such as Korpiklaani, Ensiferum, Cruachan & Waylander, virtually during Lockdown. They wrote & recorded an album. Here is the first single it was recorded at there first "live gig"

Criminal barristers have voted to strike in an escalating dispute with the government over funding for trials. The vote by defence barristers is likely to cause chaos in the criminal courts in England and Wales.

Network Rail says it will start formal consultation on changes to working practices in its maintenance team next month. After talks with the RMT ended without a breakthrough on Monday, it gave the union a letter saying the consultation would begin on 1 July and invited the union to take part. The move represents an attempt to push through changes, whether or not the RMT agrees. Network Rail says examples of the changes include using technology instead of people to do some safety inspections. The reforms would mean cutting 1,800 jobs - but Network Rail insists much of this could be achieved by voluntary redundancy, while redeployment should mean "there will be a job for everyone that wants one".

This from Sky News A Network Rail employee who "works on the infrastructure daily" has been in touch to counter what he suggests are widespread misconceptions about the cause of this week's strikes. The worker, who provided his name to Sky News but asked to remain anonymous, said the action was not primarily being driven by pay. "The issue that I have is nothing to do with money," he said. "Every reporter and news station across the country is just focusing on pay this strike is mainly about safety. Network Rail want to cut 2,000 operative jobs just on my route alone. "They want all operatives across the country to be gone and replaced with a job role called assistant technician. "The duties of this role would include traveling to various locations throughout the country in your own vehicle, therefore using more fuel and having to change your insurance policy to allow for business use therefore costing the worker more money. "They also want to bring in cross-discipline working so they want staff to be able to work with various departments using skills that people have mastered over years of experience. "However, they expect us to do their highly skilled work even though we are not trained to do the task. "Network Rail wants to attack our pension scheme and make us work more weekends with reduced rest periods between shifts, therefore making staff more fatigued and increasing the risk of serious injury." The worker went on to criticise Andrew Haines, Network Rail's chief executive. "This is the man that claims we need to save money as the company has no money to give us a pay rise, while he sits there on his £635,000-a-year job," he said.

The Times has said that “nurses, civil servants, local government staff, barristers, postal workers, BT engineers and traffic wardens” could all take strike action if they are not offered a pay increase, with teachers “set to begin strike proceedings if they do not receive a significantly improved pay offer” by Wednesday this week. The nursing union is also likely to “consult its members on what action to take” if they are not offered a pay rise of 5% above inflation this week, while criminal law barristers are set to announce the outcome of a strike ballot this afternoon.

The agency thing is just to provoke the strikers. But I'd imagine they've probably been briefed that the government would trot that out. As we know itsnot a case of "heres the keys you just drive that train over there" There's all the stuff involved just to enable a train to be able to move signalling, maintenance, administration etc. To suggest they could bring in agency workers to run the rail network is stupid & laughable

One of my daughter in laws has been sent this just for anyone travelling on the A1 this afternoon around 3.30 pm its going to be a nightmare by the looks of things they're hoping to jam the whole A1 North & South bound. Apparently they're joining the A1 at Stannington Southbound at 3.30. There's another group leaving Scotch Corner at 4.30 heading North bound. The plan is to link up at the next available junction & head South
