  9. “Eight minutes,” Springsteen said. “That song is almost eight minutes long. And that's how long it took George Floyd to die with a Minneapolis officer's knee buried into his neck. That's a long time. That's how long he begged for help and said he couldn't breathe. The arresting officer's response was nothing but silence and weight. Then he had no pulse and still it went on.” American Skin (41 Shots)’ was written about the 1999 shooting death of Amadou Diallo, a 23-year-old unarmed immigrant from Guinea, by four New York City plain-clothes police officers. Four officers were at the scene of the fatal Floyd arrest in Minneapolis on May 25.
  10. I wouldn't argue with you about that Mind you i wouldn't argue with Billy Whitehurst about anything
  11. They could get around it by changing the new fellas job discription.
  12. Tell him to be careful about refusing to go on furlough... "If you do not want to go on furlough If your employer asks you to go on furlough and you refuse you may be at risk of redundancy or termination of employment, depending on the circumstances of your employer. However, this must be in line with normal redundancy rules and protections."
  13. I'd suggest he joins a trade union asap if he's not already in one. If he was made redundant a union would raise this point during the consultation period, the government would find out how they abused the Job Retention Scheme. They'd be in the shit IMO.
  14. The company will not be able to claim furlough leave for the lad who just started as you have to be employed by the company on the 19th march 2020 So what they're trying maybe is a legal way of getting around it, but definitely morally wrong. https://www.gov.uk/guidance/check-if-you-could-be-covered-by-the-coronavirus-job-retention-scheme "Any employer with a UK payroll and a UK bank account will be able to claim, but you must have been employed on 19 March 2020 and on your employer’s PAYE payroll on or before 19 March 2020. This means your employer must have made a Real Time Information (RTI) submission notifying payment in respect of you to HMRC on or before 19 March 2020."
