  1. If this is true it would be nice if that article from a while back was right, and we're getting him on loan for a year with an obligation to buy at the price agreed. He's got potential, if you believe those in the know about French football, but we could definitely do with a more established striker to supplement Wilson and Wood given the former's injury record and the latter's profligacy in front of goal. I just can't see our budget stretching to two 30m+ strikers when we need to improve a number of areas in the team, even if the club is trying to play down our spending power so we don't get our pants pulled down.
  2. I hear they were also playing football with a Cockapoo at the time. Right wrongun.
  3. Just in case it actually happens 😀👍Looks like he can shoot with either foot, so he's already got one up on ASM in that respect.
  4. Maldini seems to be distancing Milan from a move for Botman, so that could be another sign he's on his way to us. He said that Milan had followed Botman, but that there were many good players in that position. I say distanced, but perhaps the strong links between Botman and Milan were mostly agent/paper talk.
  5. Newcastle United make new moves for Sven Botman and Moussa Diaby | The Northern Echo Ashworth in as director, along with Botman and Diaby as our first signings would be a very nice start to the summer. As for Diaby playing in the same position or being similar to ASM, Diaby played predominantly on the right for Leverkusen last season according to Transfermarkt, and his numbers stand him out as much more clinical than ASM has ever been in his career. Having a winger who seems to be comfortable on either flank is a great asset.
  6. 26m for a 29 year old who'll likely be on massive wages, and according to some has a mistake in him. I was always of the opinion that it would be better if we got someone who was 25 or under like a Botman. Of course last I heard he in particular was on his way to AC.
  7. I'd imagine that Pep will want to keep Jesus regardless of them signing Haaland. Then again it is a world cup year, so Jesus might be motivated to find a new club and not be Haaland's understudy. Of course it could be the case that Mahrez gets moved on in the summer and Jesus is given his slot on the right. Pep did say that he see's Jesus as more of forward than someone who can lead the line as a centre forward. Or maybe it was Jesus that said that about himself.
  8. If we could get north of 40m for ASM I'd drive him myself. Assuming all this having to play within FFP pragmatism, selling to buy craic isn't just us trying to dampen expectations and not get ripped off, then ASM as our most saleable asset can go. He was right in that he'd likely have a few more assists if Wood wasn't so shite, but even with Wilson in the side he's not a player that the top six would be falling over themselves to buy, and I don't think he ever will be. There's only so many times a coach can tell a player to get his head up, and try to coach them into making better decisions in terms when to release the ball and when to drive into the box. His attitude is also suspect despite his undoubted talent at social media and bringing the fans onside. Players like Lingard and Sarr would almost certainly have much more end product. Paqueta and others without PL experience of course are a bit more of a gamble. Even Fraser could be moved permanently to the left for next season, given how well he performed out there for us in ASM's absence earlier this season.
  9. Revealed! Details of Newcastle United’s training ground upgrade - and how it will actually look | NewcastleWorld Encouraging to hear that they aren't happy to wait until the new training ground is built, and prefer to make Benton as good as it possibly can be until said training facility is built.

  11. As I said a few months ago you'll see more propaganda than during a full scale war for Lampard should Everton go down. His mates in the media will be falling over themselves to point out how shite the Everton owner is, how much money they've spent on shite players etc. They'll have a point to a degree, but a) Lampard has still done shite, so far at least but it would need to be some turnaround now, and b) if it were someone not part of their clique they'd hammer him almost as much as the owner.
  12. Again this is off the top of my head, but wasn't it 90mins that pretty much broke the Ekitike story? If nothing else perhaps they have some sort of inside track on that. Of course they may just be assuming that we will go back in for players that we already have on loan or we tried to get in January. The most interesting part of the story is the initial loan with an obligation to buy for Ekitike detail. Again that would be a shrewd move in terms of maximising our budget, should it be true.
  13. I'd normally assume that as well, but wasn't Graeme Bailey, the co-writer of the article, pretty bang on in the January window?
  14. I've only read this page, so apologies if this has been mentioned, but 90minutes are saying we're close to signing the young French lad Ekitike from Reims, on a loan with an obligation to buy season after next, plus we plan to bring Targett on a perm for 15m which is hardly a surprise, and Lingard on a free. If we could get those three for an outlay of 15m on transfer fees for the 2022/23 summer transfer window, we'd be off to an incredible start. The room that getting Lingard and Ekitike in on a free and initial loan respectively could give us, could be crucial in terms of getting the big money centre half and centre forward in that we're also looking to get. Newcastle transfers: Hugo Ekitike, Matt Targett & Jesse Lingard headline summer plans (90min.com) Edit. Of course Ekitike is a striker as well, but I'd be surprised if we put all our eggs in his basket given he'll only have turned 20, and not even played a full senior season in France in terms of apps by the time we sign him. Which is likely why, if the article is accurate, we are trying to get him in on an initial season loan.
  15. I have to admit that I thought Targett was bang average at Villa, mostly based on his output as a wing back given I didn't watch him week in week out, but he's at least a seven every game. He rarely does anything too spectacular, but he's solid as a rock. He's exactly the sort of Dennis Irwin type player you need in your team, or at the very least an indispensable squad player. If we can get him for 15m that would be a pretty good deal in today's market.

  18. I'm actually shocked that Bruno hasn't scored more goals in his professional career. Perhaps it's a function of playing in a deeper position for other teams, but he has the athleticism, footballing intelligence, touch, timing of his runs into the box, basically everything you need to be a top goal scoring midfielder in his locker.
  19. Ziyech can fuck off as well. Cunt was whinging the whole match. In fact it's pretty much a where's waldo game to find a Chelski player who isn't some variety of cunt.
  20. As people have already said the only positive we can take is that we're gutted and feel genuinely hard done by to lose 1-0 at Stamford Bridge, and with so many players out injured. It's tough competition in the premier league, but that's possibly the worst performance by a ref this season. Two clear cut decisions. Or at the very least VAR should have overturned the refs decisions. All this it has to be a clear and obvious error shite if fucking deliberately vague nonsense so they can get away with murder.
  21. At Bournemouth I think it was more a case of well I may as well go for broke a little bit, given I probably don't have the quality to hold on for a full 90.
  22. Howe's plan seems to be more or less working so far, so fair play to him and the lads. Hasselbank thinks Havertz is very lucky to still be on, Redknapp more or less was going that way as well.

I haven't read all the comments, but I presume some are posing the question of what if the same thing that's happened to Chelsea happens to us given who our owners are. I admit that would really pour a few million gallons of piss in our collective cornflakes, and make the lovely cognitive dissonance we've been cultivating all but impossible to maintain. Having said all that the realpolitik reading of the situation is that the Saudi's have been partners with the Western powers for a very long time, you just need to see the amount of weapons and logistical support they have given over the years, and even though a week is a long time in politics, it would take something pretty major for the the US, UK etc to turn their backs on Saudi and to begin sanctioning them. Perhaps the relationship will change fundamentally when we become less dependent on oil, but that could be decades away yet given how relatively unreliable renewables still are, at least in terms of storing energy.
