It's not just food, man. We've got a home bargains less than a five minute away, most the prices have jumped a good 50%, right down to shit like toilet roll. Costs me 50% more to wipe my arse than it did in March. Curiously though, the price of alcohol hasn't moved much. Puts me in mind of my late grandfathers favourite saying (which admittedly always drove me mental): "if you can save 50% on everything you buy, you'll have twice as much money". It's just occurred to me that he'd probabaly been using that phrase since the last time we saw inflation as extreme as we're seeing now. I'm honestly not sure what we can do about it. Even if we learned to protest like the French I doubt it would make much of a difference, I think we're already too far gone. Our current chancellor of the exchequer is now aiming for the PM position with a "let's fix the economy" slogan.

Just gone and fucking jinxed myself, looks like we'll be moving in the next few months too.

Love it. Nice collection. Not sure if I've seen an SNK cabinet since the 90's. That looks newer, no way that white plastic shell hasn't discoloured more if it's pushing 30 years old. Surprised to see that NBA logo on screen, just naturally assumed it would be Metal Slug. Also liking the framed John Carpenter vinyl. Jon Poole approves!

Got me curious, do you make pinball or arcade machines or just a big fan of them? Nowt wrong with just collecting them, just curious as I nearly went down the road of building arcade machines about 10 years but the legality of it all meant there was no money in it and I'm basically not allowed hobbies that don't at least pay for themselves anymore, (unless you count drinking too much).

My sympathies @Andrew. Flitting is an absolute nightmare. I'm really dreading the next time we have to move. I still haven't recovered from the last time and that was ten years ago. Hope it goes smoothly man. @Tom thats a beautiful guitar. Wish they'd put a proper T.O.M bridge and tailpaice on it tbh but it's well out of my budget so I'm not sure why I care. Mind you were saying you were struggling for high gain tones with the P90's in that Riviera? It just occurred to me that Bill Steer was playing LP juniors all the time in the 90's with Carcass.

Temperature and wind-chill factor aside, that neck of the woods always reminds me of that scene in Independence Day. Absolutely. EK was probably both their curse and blessing. Psychocandy would have been a totally different animal if they were based a few miles up the road in sunny Bathgate.

Aye that's fair. East Kilbride is Glasgow's Denny. Always a dark cloud over those parts.
-
Where the fuck are you? I've got three fans on, all the windows open and it's still 26° in our living room. I'm gonna have to guess Denny. It's always dark, cold and miserable in Denny.

Jesus man, they genuinely can't cope without you for half a shift? Fair play, I'd struggle to cope with that level of responsibility. How do you even manage to get a lunch break?
-
Surely you didn't actually just go home and resume your working day from there? That's literally your boss handing you a get out of work free card.

Aye. I've got a makeshift workbench just off the kitchen that would've been the old pantry when our house was built in the 50's. Thermometer on my bench has been pushing 30C at points these last few weeks, in a part of the house that was supposedly designed to store food. Swear in these last few years I've gradually flipped from "why the fuck would we need air-con in Scotland?" to "Jesus fuck this is torture".

If it's voluntary, fair enough. People being allowed to tell you up front whether they want to be referred to as male, female or straight up say "please don't use gendered pronouns when you refer to me" seems fair enough to me if that's what they want to do. I don't understand the hysteria around all this. If I was to guess most of it seems to stem from folk that don't realise we've all used pronouns for all our lives without issue and are just shit scared of being called out in public for not understanding what a pronoun is.

@Tom Looks a keeper. Trading up like that is pretty impressive. My main these days is an Epi SG that looks identical to the one fist jnr got off Gemmill. That was a Gumtree impulse buy too, but over the years just became the guitar I tended to always reach for first.
-
Didn't Drummond grow up in Dumfries? Burning stuff is just the done thing down there. Nice part of the country like, gulf stream n'all that but fuck me do they have a thing with setting thing on fire for fun.
-
Aye that's an absolute steal. I still try not to look at Gumtree for fear of coming home with another 4x12 that was "only £50!".
-
Marty Mcfly eat your heart out. Can almost smell the nitrocellulose. Love an SG, I was a late convert but the smallest hill I'm still willing to die on is maintaing Les Paul made a huge mistake not wanting his name on these.
-
Fucking Hell. Was that just a flat rate for a basic setup? I could maybe understand that if a guitar was in terrible nick and needed a few hours work and some new parts, but even if they threw in a new set of strings that's an absolute con for just a basic setup.
-
I'll back Gemmill up on that being a really fair price, there's folk that will charge close to £50 for just a setup. Get Fist jnr onto YouTube videos like Canadian Dave's and he'll be setting up his own guitars in no time.

Dunno what you lot are doing with your phone's, last 6 months I've been using a £100 Motorola (g8 I think) and it's absolutely been fine. Had less headaches with it than some "flagships" I've bought on contract in the past.

I'm pretty much like this, like to be kept busy and be useful. I hate having to go to work as much as anyone but once I'm there it's a case of "fuck it I'm here now, what needs done?". Tbh though that might largely down to never really having been in a position where I've felt trapped in a job I hate. Anytime I've felt jaded with work I'm far more likely to just quit and look for something else than turn up and just fuck about. If ever felt trapped in a job I hated and saw no way out Im pretty sure I'd end up finding ways to do as little as possible.

I don't get the Renton reference and thought the Star was no more but that front page is an absolute work of art. Sunday Sport eat your heart out.

Aye, cup aside (as amusingly accurate as it is) it honestly made my day to see that here of all place. Wylie's pedals are fascinating but rare as fuck and as far I'm aware most of the schematics and designs all died with him. I think a majority of his work is still a total mystery. I know a few guys from a pedal forum that eventually got there hands on a Moonrock and collectively recreated it, then spent a fuck ton of time essentially just trying to guess what improvements Wylie made with the even rarer New Moon. They eventually ended up with a much more versatile version of the Moonrock but nobody really knows how close to the New Moon it really is.
