  1. "Not my words, Michael...the words of Shakin' Stevens!"
  2. Still on the statute book isn't it? I.e. execution for treason. Hoyed out in '98 apparently. Life sentence these days. Ah right. I knew it was still on after the death penalty had been abolished. If you can explain that one you're a better man than me. Piracy too. Crime and Disorder Act 1998 An Act to make provision for preventing crime and disorder; to create certain racially-aggravated offences; to abolish the rebuttable presumption that a child is doli incapax and to make provision as to the effect of a child’s failure to give evidence at his trial; to abolish the death penalty for treason and piracy; to make changes to the criminal justice system; to make further provision for dealing with offenders; to make further provision with respect to remands and committals for trial and the release and recall of prisoners; to amend Chapter I of Part II of the Crime (Sentences) Act 1997 and to repeal Chapter I of Part III of the Crime and Punishment (Scotland) Act 1997; to make amendments designed to facilitate, or otherwise desirable in connection with, the consolidation of certain enactments; and for connected purposes. [31st July 1998] Be it enacted by the Queen’s most Excellent Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Lords Spiritual and Temporal, and Commons, in this present Parliament assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:— Basically for the reasons Meenz mentioned-compliance with the Convention rights. Incidentally the preamble reference to the 'Queen's most Excellent Majesty' followed by a reference to Martin was pure coincidence.

  4. Well it's certainly not concerning any other buggers.
  5. Looking at where we've picked up points I don't see any reason not to expect points from the 3 home games in that lot.... We've not lost a game at home to anyone in the bottom half all season. So I'm confident of points there. Birmingham away would be a good place to get a win to seal it though. Thing is I'd be happier fighting this relegation battle above the relegation zone rather than in it. Our next fixture is Liverpool and we'll lose that so we can assume that by the following game we're going to be nearer to the drop zone than further from it. Following that up I really don't expect us to get anything against Birmingham at all-the danger with all that is that by then we're in a cycle of form where we're becoming serious strangers from picking up any points at all. Fulham follows that and while they're utter dog-shit, I think people under estimate how much the lack of wins might have affected belief by then. The mackems is looking like the best bet for me even though it'll no doubt be the most gruelling of the lot and thats just because its a derby and hence a free-for-all. It could go either way of course, but I'd take games that could go either way at the moment, rather than fixtures where people seem utterly convinced we'll win (wrongly in my view) or those that we know we almost certainly can't win (eg Liverpool). Can't see us dropping much lower, even if we lose next weeks fixture. Those who can jump us mathematically have to play Man City, Everton and Arsenal themselves. I give us as much of a hope as I give them. Aye well I wouldnt disagree with that necessarily. I've said previously I think it's a lottery now. I honestly don't look at any games where I actually expect on balance of probabilities that we will win though. It doesnt understate the case to say that failure to put the ball in the net is a massive drawback in football.

  7. Championship standard. Will eventually find his level. Hopefully not with us.
  8. We're still talking about games like Fulham/Birmingham/Reading/Sunderland as where we're going to pick up points. Obviously they're the fixtures that spring naturally to mind, but previously Blackburn were mentioned in that list and prior to that Middlesbrough. I personally think we're now relying on one team to do worse than us in the run in for 3rd bottom rather than us putting any results together because I don't see any particular individual game yielding points for us any more. That's not to say they won't -just I have absolutely no confidence that they will. The best i'm now realistically hoping for is for us to avoid defeat against the likes of Fulham/Birmingham/Reading/Sunderland-as converselely we're the only team on their fixture list run-in that they will actually fancy beating (and I include Fulham in that). That for me has now become the crucial factor.
  9. We deserved at least a draw yesterday. At least. On that basis his selection yesterday was alright imo. Viduka - Spat his dummy out big style the whispers go. Prob never play again for us. Martins - Maybe not ready for 90mins Zog - Unlucky to be dropped imo. Id have also brought him on for Barton in the centre. Also brought on a little late I think. I also thought Smith had a better game, his hard work actually being useful. Played the target man well I thought and was unlucky with that header. Overall, I understood the starting lineup, but would prefer to see Barton dropped and Zog starting on the left for Duff or centre for Barton. Martins may start soon or he may continue with Smith. Id prefer Martins and see how he does. Id also like to see Carroll now and again. I thought Enrique was better than Zog at LB, but he wasnt great like. But Id persist with him. Totally the right decision to put a left back at left back. Touch and go as to who should start between Zog and Duff. I guess Keegan's thinking is if Zog has said he wants out has he got any reason to fight for the cause? Not the sort of attitude you want in a relegation battle. Aye think you're probably right on that.
  10. tbh it's hard to argue against using Martins when we can't find the back of the net. We don't have the time left to give people games to re-find their shooting form so he gets a game for me. If he's hopeless then he doesn't play the next one. Simple as.
  11. This is a fucking lottery now.
  12. If we're talking shit, can I nominate Paddy McGuiness? And I don't just mean a bit shit either.
  13. This thread was just starting to scream 'garlic bread' in a Peter Kay vox pop voice. And it was funny the first time he said it tbf.
  14. Garlic bread? Garlic bread?!
  15. Oh and I swear the fucking plastic wrapper was actually welded to the bar itself during the packaging process.
  16. Wham chews were better than the actual bars for the record. If you bought a bar, it'd inevitably have to be abandoned after a few days, because it was covered in fluff and had removed half of your back teeth.
  17. Blue Peter's Bonnie the Dog. She'd had a good innings tbf.
  18. If Keegan does get money to spend in the summer, the media pressure on us (him) at the start of next term is going to be unbelievable!
  19. Tinned ham for Sunday tea???!!! You Grade A bin rifler!
  20. Surely she would still be your auntie. . . . just with a cock! It's purely hypothetical. I think in practice you'd just have to suck it and see.
  21. Manchester/Salford is more than big enough for two teams, and they've won more than we have in the last 61 years (including being champions of this country twice). Sunderland's figure is the most impressive in my opinion. One FA Cup win, and fuck all else for more than half a century, yet still over the piece they've been the 10th best supported club. I reckon even if we had a short spell of success like Leeds had in the late 60s early 70s, we'd be second on that list, I'm convinced of it. I think Sunderland's record is a tribute to them tbh. Can't knock it. Still think City's is the measure of anyones overall though when you consider who their neighbours are-you really can't under estimate that factor. Manchester/Salford is big enough for two teams, but Salford is almost entirely red.
  22. Tell you what, out of all of them you've got to say fair play to Man Citeh for a steady bedrock of 20k+; and that's with a fair few seasons out of the top flight and with the scum across the road wining everything in sight.
  23. Jesus....Fop literally requires years of therapy.
  24. I said it was North of the Wear you twat!
  25. What is Gateshead if not 'down South' for fucks sake?!
