Sorry my mistake, yes OEM. First 3 times using Norton Ghost, then someone on a tech forum claimed only Acronis software is any good to clone a hard drive, so I cloned it again using Acronis, which is shite btw and I had to re-register and/or activate a bunch of software I didn't have to when using ghost. And yes both cloning softwares perform a sysprep. K, I'm not sure if you have ever dealt with Macs and their early scsi systems where everything connected had a scsi id and if there was a scsi clash the HDD would be there for a moment and then disappear. It's kind of like that. btw you see the preseason football question in the Silvestre thread? How's the little one, they the reason you're still awake?

No installing the OS on the SSD is something I wanted to avoid. But it doesn't make sense that everything works, including non linear editing software, adobe master collection, etc, etc - except for this USB connected optical drive. I've even just found the latest drivers, released in the last week in Japan but not available on any other Sony site as yet and the fucker still will not connect. That said Sony has had problems with 64 bit OS. Sorry OM is jargon, Original Manufacturer and you know what HDD is.

What clashing with the optical drive? Possibly, I've updated the SSD firmware since installing but no difference between the out of the box version and the update. I'm going to have go back to the HDD aren't I? Running a SSD gives me an extra bay for a media drive!!!

Is it possible for two discs on your computer (PC) to have a bios conflict? Or can you think of another reason why a SSD OS/boot drive would have a conflict with a USB 2 connected optical drive? In a nut shell I have a new workstation, which when I took delivery I cloned the OM HDD to a SSD, everything is brilliant and works except I cannot connect to Sony XDCAM optical drives, which are important as a lot of my source material is recorded to this format. But if I swap the SSD back out for the original HDD, it works fine. Yes both drives are identical in content, software, drivers, etc. What is a real mind fuck is the fact that with the SSD installed immediately after the computer is booted up, it can see what is on a disc in the XDCAM drive but a minute or so later it loses it and the file cannot be seen in the appropriate software. (Also to clarify the drive, the disc and all it's content can be seen in disk management but the programs associated cannot connect). Thoughts? Yes I've done fresh installs of the troublesome drivers/software, re-cloned the SSD using different cloning software and yes Gemmill I could just put the OM HDD back in but I'd rather fix this issue.
