  1. Thanks Andrew, that is very good of you. You lot have been very generous so far. It will truly make me feel a little bit better when my nipples are bleeding.
  2. World's biggest wind turbine blades to be made in the North East. http://decc.gov.uk/en/content/cms/news/pn100/pn100.aspx
  3. Is the secret forum everyone having a pop at Fish? Might as well merge the two then iyam. Save the Planet and all that.
  4. Good man JawD! I shall return the favour. Good luck to you too, I'd say if you don't get a run in tonight then don't bother, you may as well just rest and stay off the pop till sunday. Edit: your page has expired so I'll just give it directly to the Sunshine Fund.
  5. Christ. Good lad I say. Right then, I have been dabbling with this for a while, a new challenge for next year. To give you the background, last year I took a team on the 3 peak challenge, this year was the C2C bike ride, but these things are so popular I want to do something a bit different. I thought about swimming down Windermere, but it's a bit well, small. Probably polish it off in a few hours. I may as well launch a feasibility study here given there are so many learned and opinionated sorts. Who thinks I can swim around the British mainland (and not die)? And how many days do you think it will take? The length of the coastline is stated as 11,073 miles however this is taking into account the ins and outs. I have estimated the distance swimming in straightish lines (shortest distance between e.g. Clacton-on-Sea and Margate) to be between 2000 and 2250 miles. 2 miles an hour seems to be an achievable speed. So 10 hours a day = 20 miles = 100 - 112.5 days. Assume you miss every third day due to conditions then this might take 5 or 6 months to complete. Please now list the reasons why this is insane and no one has does it yet....
  6. If Keegan had been careful with his earnings down the years, taken some sensible investing advice, not wasted too much on a highfalutin lifestyle, for instance instead of fancy hotels he could sleep in his car now and then. If he hadn't sprayed his popcorn on circus endeavours. All those endorsements from Sugar Puffs and Brut all the cash from managing large clubs, the nation. All the royalites from his 'I would love it' lectures. If he had lived on Sugar Puffs and Brut and eaten off his wife's stomach, if he had caught the train to save on speeding fines, if he had bought some Wahl clippers and eschewed fashionable haircuts. If he had just done these things he would now be rich enough to but this club himself and save us all from this hideousness. Short sighted imo. I hope he goes to jail.
  7. There's loads of spunky tissues under your bed but we're too polite to mention it.
  8. JaMoUsE, thank you very much.
  9. I recall reading about that Tesla tower, how come no-one else has built one?
  10. my Wolves mate says; 'Sam holds the ball up well - plays for Wales - I think he has potential. But if he does I'm not sure why we would be loaning him out. I think he likes a pie, and an ale'
  11. What about underground flywheels as energy stores? And what about this space based thing the Japanese are doing, harvesting the sun and sending some insane beam of power down to earth? What do you do Donald?
  12. Just for you this one Berb.. Did your broad beans turn out to be fellas like?
  13. I'm just reading MacKay's Sustainable energy without the hot air, very interesting. Nuclear is not the answer fwiw. Oil crisis would be replaced by a nuclear crises as uranium stocks would be depleted in twenty years or so. (Out of Gas, David Goodstein). Currently 4% of our energy is from Nuclear and Renewables. Tide - Too expensive Deep Offshore wind - not near my radar! Shallow offshore wind - not near our birds! Wind - NIMBY MADNESS Biomass - not in my countryside! PV Farms far too expensive! Local PV - No, they would spoil the visual amenity of the street Solar heating - No, they would spoil the visual amenity of the street Wind - No they're ugly and noisy Public consultation is the problem. Force brown and black outs on them, they'll sharp change their minds. This won't happen though, so wtf are we to do?
  14. The tomatoes coming out of my garden are seemingly endless and easily the most delicious I have ever had. Beetroot was great too. Spuds canny and looking forward to the pumpkin. I concur like CT, it is good for the soul. I literally just sewed a few seeds and planted them out when I got round to it. A few beer traps when the slugs got naughty but apart from that and the odd bit of watering, it's piece of pish.
  15. I have been practising scowling every time I've been running so no problem there. Thanks very much mate.
  16. I understand HF, been a little bombarded myself this year, all these pissing do-gooders eh? Cheers Alex, very much appreciated.
