1. Before Xmas, I'd have said that Sunderland, Portsmouth, Birmingham, Everton, Fulham, West Brom, Aston Villa & Charlton would all definitely finish below us. Now a couple of teams (Pompey and Everton in particular) have had a definite turn around in fortunes since then so I'm not so sure. I still think it's highly unlikely that we will be involved though. * Watch that comment come back and bite me on the arse. EDIT: I've just had a look at the table and seen Boro's position - what the fuck happened to them, did they go into free-fall or something?
2. They never told him to specifically sell Ferdinand, they just said that funds needed to be raised to satisfy the bank loan taken out to bring in Shearer and that Ferdinand was a possible asset. As KK said, Joe Royle later told him he'd have made out a cheque there and then for £6m to take Ferdinand to Goodison Park but KK said he didn't buy Shearer to sell Ferdinand. KK may have had 3 years left on his contract, but he definitely told them he wouldn't be the manager for the start of the 1997-98 season.
3. Regardless of whether believe they should be at the club or not we have four midfielders who cost us well over 20 million on loan at other clubs... Nothing like strengthening an already small squad Mr Souness... 73984 Viana, Robert, Butt and Milner? Could actually do with all 4 of them now, it's that bad. Should have kept Ambrose IMO. 73988 3 OF 3M ARE STILL ON OUR BOOKS! 74012 All four are, surely? Or did I miss a sale? 74013 Well it's 3 now...
4. llike who ? Chelsea, man u ? If Parker is so good, why did Chelsea sell him...why didn't manu come in for him ? Why did no one else come in for Luque if he is so good ? 74074 You saying Parker's no good then Leazes? Mourinho himself said he didn't want to sell Parker but conceeded that while Makelele is fit, Parker wouldn't be first choice and therefore he felt it fair to let him go elsewhere and get first-team football. Most of the Chelsea faithful were pissed off that he went because they felt they had a long-term potential to CM already on the payroll. As for Man Utd not going in for him, I haven't a clue but I read somewhere that following the Roy Keane saga, SAF was quizzed and asked whether in hindsight he wishes he'd made an approach for Parker with him saying he would. * I haven't got a source before you ask. The Luque bashing is getting ridiculous tbh. Did you bash Viana during his first handful of games as well?
5. Fuck me gently, have a look at the comment by Papa L in that thread Can't be the same bloke as the Souness-hater off here, surely?
6. For the umpteenth time: I said that Souness needed time to prove himself one way or the other. He's used that time to prove that he isn't good enough. Which doesn't make me wrong because he still needed that time to prove his inadequacy in his role as manager of Newcastle United (not Liverpool, Blackburn, or any other club he may have been at in the past). It was simply the true, 100% correct statement that "A new manager needs time to prove himself" that makes me RIGHT and not WRONG. FACTARAMA. 73891 Gemmill, you were wrong because you thought he was the man for the job when he came here. That is all I am saying, just admit you were wrong on that aspect and I will never bring it up again. 73902 I didn't think that you knobber! When I first saw his appointment I remember it vividly: I was abroad and I saw it on the BBC website and was as underwhelmed as anyone else. But after the initial disappointment I just thought "Ah well, he's here now. Let's see how the bloke does." Meanwhile, in Newcastle Airport's departure lounge........CARNAGE!!! 73910 The first post I read after coming back from Barcelona (nearly 2 weeks after his appointment) was you saying something like "The more I think about it, the more I think Souness will be good for our club.....". Followed by "Anyone who doesn't think he should get AT LEAST 2 years in the job is a f*****g idiot". Anyway, this is getting beyond pointless now, and I can't prove it, so we may as well drop it. 73914 Well Souness became manager when we were all camped out over at the backup forum at http://s7.invisionfree.com/toonchat/ so you can go over there and have a sift through the threads and find the comment you reckon Gemmill made. I'm pretty confident he didn't say that like, but it's for you to prove he did... 74142 I'm certain he did, in fact I think it was in a thread he started. Is there anyway of checking threads Gemmill started between early and mid September, 2005? I actually haven't a clue how to do this, and can't even remember by log in..... We can't all be geeks.... 74151 This the thread you're talking about? It wasn't by Gemmill - it was by the Turd! http://s7.invisionfree.com/toonchat/index.php?showtopic=1072
7. That's not Renton admitting he's wrong is it? 1-1!!
8. swap 'belief' for 'hope' and you're spot on... 74144 I've already said that 74146 Yeah I know, but I've been reading through the thread chronologically and replied to it as soon as I saw it. Then I read your reply further down

11. Oliver was on SSN earlier saying that Souness would have to win the FA Cup to save his job and that without Owen, he has no chance....
12. Just been confirmed on SSN that he has signed for Benfica on a 3½ year contract. Can we now please dispense with the ridiculous notion of some that he'll ever play for Newcastle United again?
13. Yep. In short, the club wanted him to stay but Keegan had had enough. Tehy couldn't float with a manager who, not only wouldn't commit himself for more than six months, he stated his was going in 6 months! They wanted him to sign a longer contract and when he refused, they asked for him to resign. I don't like the fact that the club becoming a PLC robbed us of the best manager in my time following the club, but I can understand the club's position given the fact that they'd committed to floatation.
14. Doubt that'd stop Souness selling him tbh...
15. Just this second turned SSN on and caught the second half of the breaking news ticker saying ...OUT FOR EIGHT WEEKS FOLLOWING KNEE SURGERY My immediate thought was, which one of ours is that??
16. ditto, he was at it again yesterday moaning about Stevie G and Sissoko 73703 Sissoko's challenge was fucking horrid tbh. Any manager in the league would have moaned about that one.
17. Well I've got 6 days before I'm back at work - shall be playing BALLZ! to see if I can topple your score!
18. *sits and waits and waits and waits for someone to come close at Ballz. 73674 * hovers finger over reset scores button.
19. Cheers... I wasn't necessarily doubting it, I just wondered where the info had been plucked from - what was the source?
20. tbh, we lost that game because the world's greatest keeper at that time (Schmeichel) had by his own admission the best game of his life. Add to that a moment of genius from Cantona which got their goal and the result is a 1-0 win to Man Utd. How the fuck can you blame the result of that game on David Batty? Talk about finding a scape-goat....
21. By the same reckoning, you'd have to blame Shearer then 73540 Not really, Shearer's goal rate proved his use, plus we changed managers at the same time. I realise I am a voice in the wilderness here but I really hated that Yorkshire twat! Most others blame Asprilla of course. 73546 Keegan doesn't - he blames neither. KK choses to put the blame on some of the players who had been there since the start of the 95-96 season and suggested their performances had gone into decline. Both Asprilla and Batty took the flak because they joined at a time when Manchester United became awesome. Remember we didn't drop many points on that run in, they just managed to drop less. David Batty is one of the best defensive midfielders to ever grace the black and white shirt in recent years - FACT. People criticised Keegan for being too attacking, he brings in Batty and gets criticised again!
22. I'll swap you these rose-tinted specs for that trendy mind-reading helmet you've obviously got for Christmas. 73325 I wonder of Leazes will come on here and admit he was wrong when Taylor doesn't turn out to be England captain 73328 does anyone disagree with me....just to get it out of the way ? 73333 Yes, he'll never be England captain. Decent, committed but ultimtately overrated player. IMO like. 73347 You just have to think about Terry and Woodgate in the same age and you'll see that some people must wear rose tinted specs to think he will ever be a regular English international... 73366 John Terry was almost sold to Huddersfield [under Steve Bruce] for 700 grand when he was younger. 73594 Proof please?
23. Same here - he just didn't seem to care what it meant for us...
