Decent performance - thought the midfield held well and that without Gerrard & Beckham there to swamp him, Lampard came into his own once more - as Motty said he IS the cornerstone of the England midfield. But if last night says anything, it confirms that he needs to play with a defensive midfielder and not an attacking midfielder in a defensive position. The time has come IMO for Gerrard and Beckham not to be automatically first choice. We have a batch of young quality defensive midfielders at our disposal, namely King, Carrick & Parker (and others) so why are they not getting a look in when the likes of Hargreaves, Jenas etc. who IMO are not up to scratch (or a patch on the others) always seem to do so?
