  1. Probably the wise course. Justice is open in all weather though
  2. Oi; read the thread. Perfectly cheered up, just still bored out of my skull. (and cold. I reserve the right to let my mood dip after my evening commute if my balls actually do freeze off.)
  3. -35 C this morning. Before the wind chill. Walking the five blocks to the bus stop feels like I've walked about ten miles.
  4. Don't get me wrong; I've no problem with them building a beautiful new stadium here. I *do* have a problem with paying for it, which is what they want, the public to pay for the damn thing. Communism. Already built a big new stadium for the College football team and the Baseball team in town. We don't have any money left you greedy fucks. You rake in billions per game but want us to pay for your workplace? fuck off.
  5. Aye, this ones 9.5 acres, I think. Domed stadia were all the rage in the 70s and into the 80s. Then fell well off. The American Football team that owns this stadium has been whining for a new one for 15 years (the Metrodome was built in 1980.) I'm pissed off that they'll probably get a nice big chunk of public funding for a new stadium based on this incident.
  6. Held up fine for the past 28 years. Would have been fine if the conditions weren't too slippery for the teams clearing the snow on the roof to keep working. Winds were getting too hard for them to keep working safely, so the snow built up too much.
  7. It's not like it was a concrete/metal roof. It's a teflon, air supported dome. When there was 17 inches of wet snow, one of the panels tore, which means that air was able to escape and the pressure wouldn't hold up the dome, so it would have come down even without all the snow weighing it down (apart from the snow causing the tear, obviously). The snow certainly sped up the fall though. Drove by it today; it looks really strange. Here's a "regular" shot for comparison:
  8. Aren't they interested in 2026? no point in anyone bidding against them if they are. Word is very strong that that's the plan for 2026, yes. However, with Qatar in 2022, and a *possibility* of change by then (Sepp has to die at some point, right?) we might see it in Europe. Or the US, or Australia. Any of those would be "reasonable" outcomes.
  9. Qatar national team in action last week http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MKWxzJWvtYs
  10. More effective than money is the Qatar's bid promise to dismantle the stadiums after the cup and reassemble them in "poor countries." So when in 2023 we see where they go, we can figure out how the votes were cast.
  11. Russia and Qatar? I suppose it might be fun to travel to new places. What I really want to know, though, is how I can get in on the bribes.
  12. Obsessed Aye, you think it has anything to do with the fact that many of our lot are at the match whereas fewer of their's will necessarily be able to go?
  13. As a student of the law, I can tell you that this common law rule that the judge cites there is a very old precedent based in English law, not American law (the American common law system grew out of the common law rules that were transported from the UK. This is especially true of New York law.) Unless there has been an update in the UK to the rule, the same could happen in the UK. Also, the judge did not find the 4 year old negligent, merely that the suit could be brought. He's bound to follow the law regardless of how he feels about it; he's a lower court judge he doesn't make law. Besides, there's still the question of whether the child actually was negligent and would be liable for damages. I'm guessing no, and that the plaintiff is just wasting money on the whole thing.
  14. Pussy. A real american would've used a gun.
  15. Given the size of the lens on phone cameras, anything above 5 MP is a total waste. The difference between 3.2 and 5 MP on such a small lens is also unlikely to provide much of a difference. The flash on the Motorola Droid seems a nice addition, though.
  16. If the original is best, the Palm Treo was a better phone than the iPhone was when it came out. The Palm Pre is a magnificent phone, but Palm itself seems to be on the way out I just switched from my iPhone to a MyTouch 3G (aka Magic, I think) and am quite pleased. While I'm figuring out new apps and learning the different sort of typing, I am quite happy with the switch. I can now multitask, the monthly cost is cheaper and (over here) the 3G coverage actually, well, covers most of where I spend my days.
  17. More specific to this board: http://www.sporcle.com/games/KevinMillar3/Newcastlethe00s I got 72. Forgot about Fumaca
  18. There was TONS of hype over here. There were strategic leaks as well as rampant speculation all over the place. Gawker was offering several thousands of dollars as a reward for just photos of the damn thing. You don't need to have publicly confirmed hard info for hype. It's not comparable to a netbook, though, because you'd have to buy an (expensive) keyboard attachment and dongle in order to type on the damn thing, and then you'd have to have a separate iPod to listen to music while you did it. a 10" touchscreen keyboard just isn't practical. 3G is nothing special when the surroundings are so limited. It's less portable than an iPhone, and doesn't provide enough extra to be worth it. Some people wanted a bigger screen, fine, but there's nothing new here, which is a major disappointment. And don't say it has great access to apps and media and such. It has restricted access to everything. It all must be done through Apple, which is my biggest complaint. If it weren't so closed, people could innovate solutions for stuff, but as it is, it's totally locked.
  19. With all the hype, I was hoping for something actually innovative, instead of a giant iPod touch. It's very disappointing that it cannot multitask. Without that basic functionality, it's not as useful as a netbook. Especailly since it cannot run flash. If you could put other stuff on its OS, then it might be made more useful through development, but with the closed-system that Apple runs, even that isn't possible. I probably wouldn't have bought one anyways, since I tend to get frustrated with being locked out of all things Apple, but I had a Newton years ago which I liked a lot. I was hoping that there would be something actually *new* that would lead to innovation across the board. This is just more of the same.
  20. Meh. Ends up just being an oversized iPod touch. Still doesn't even run flash. Weak sauce.
  21. Gave up after abbout 120 and 10 minutes--got bored.

    Haiti

Haiti truly has been in absolutely dreadful shape in terms of corruption for at least a decade. While I'm not really a fan of US troop involvement and interference in most places, the situation in Haiti was downright depressing and not very well publicized. If some good comes out of the situation, meaning that Haiti ends up differently than Antigua, then I'm for it.
