The OFFICIAL Transfer Rumours Thread
David Kelly replied to Anorthernsoul's topic in Newcastle Forum
There's talk of them signing Pato so they might allow him to leave then. We should certainly be in for him if he is available. -
Film/moving picture show you most recently watched
David Kelly replied to Jimbo's topic in General Chat
Room. Thought it would be hard going but I thought it was really good. Sicario. Fairly average apart from Del Toro. Inside Job. Basically The Big Short in documentary form. Excellent. -
All the beast is, is a configuration of kodi with pretty pictures and separate menus set up for things like sports and movies. And then it's got a load of apps already installed. It does nothing other than that. Genesis isn't being maintained anymore so it's getting more and more dead links. Real Debrid is partially solving that for me now but even some of those links are dead. They aren't all HD as some seem to believe, they tell you the quality though and I've never had any problems with buffering on any of them. Got Sicario on at the minute and it's perfect. That's through velocity rather than Genesis though. Velocity seems to be the way forward for films.

Did he have a stinker? I didn't see much of it. But I'm not at all happy we lost again. I think he's a good player too. Don't think he's good enough at the moment to score enough to keep us up though.

As soon as I bet on Boro last week they went and lost. I won't be doing that again!
-
There's only really been Stokes who's really looked up for it today.
-
Might have been very handy for Rashid to get some game time on those sort of pitches ahead of the T20 world cup too. Going by how well he's done in the big bash, he's going to be a very important player for us over there.
-
Aye I know what you're saying. Obviously the Rashid thing is still in mind and that was ridiculous. AB going for a duck gets us back into this somewhat.
-
Aye me too. Thank fuck for Stokes.
-
Talk is cheap. Once I see him regularly scoring, I'll be confident in his ability to score regularly.

Interesting to just hear Vaughan's thoughts earlier about dead rubbers. Says the players don't believe in them and if they try and use it as a reason for defeat it's just an excuse. They've certainly not been at it for whatever reason today. Not sure whether it's right to play Footit in this game. They obviously have to give him a chance at some point but Woakes is pretty much still in that stage too. This is only his 6th test? I must admit he's never massively impressed me but he seems to get talked about pretty positively by the pundits (who's opinion I have a lot more respect for than their football counterparts). Mikey Holden was talking earlier how he is very economical.

Taylor's catching must be a dream for the bowlers.

I fully agree we're playing better football than we have for years. But confidence is still low (not at all surprising given the last couple of years) and I think that's a large part of the reason why results haven't come. It's going to take a while to restore confidence, a couple of wins won't do it, and I think until it's back at the club we're still at risk.

I've thought for years that we've had better players than a lot of the teams above us but it hasn't translated to us finishing above them. That's where my lack of confidence comes from.

I'm sure the Mackems, Swansea, Villa and West Brom could also look at it the same way though. I hope Shelvey does improve us, I certainly could see that he did on Saturday. And maybe he doesn't need to play all that well to do that. Maybe we have a lot of the other ingredients needed already. But then again maybe he gets injured and we're back to Anita and Colback. I think we have a realistic chance of moving up the table but the fact is for well over a year we've been utter shite. That doesn't give me confidence and I'm going to need to see more evidence before I'll be confident.

Gomis would be my more realistic concern. I could see him being not much more sucessful than Kuqi though.

I agree about signing Austin. That would have had me much more positive about staying up. But we didn't and Southampton (a team who I thought might have had a chance of getting sucked into the relegation battle) did. Lacazette has only managed double figures twice so far, in a weaker league, and is two years older than Berahino. Obviously there's question marks about Berahino's attitude but I see him as less of a risk. I just don't see the evidence that there's enough goals in Sissoko or even Perez and that has me concerned. As it stands I admit I think we're more likely to go down than stay up. I'm not convinced we have enough goals and I'm not convinced Shelvey will regularly play as well has he did on his debut. That doesn't mean I hysterically think we're completely doomed or that I won't be delighted to admit I'm wrong. The Telegraph are reporting we're moving on from both Townsend and Berahino by the way. Which is exactly what I was advocating earlier if we aren't making progress. I do worry about where we will go next though.

The argument you have seemed to put forward recently was that bringing a striker in might halt Mitrovic's progress and as such could be a bad thing. My point of view is that while ideally I would like to see Mitrovic given more time, our position is not one where we can afford this. IMO we need more goals. This opinion is shared by Alex and others and seems to be shared by the club as they appear to be trying to sign a striker. If they don't (and they haven't yet) do that there is reason to be increasingly pessemistic about our chances of survial. Whilse no one was saying we were suddenly safe after the weekend, there was definitely a much increased level of optimism on here on Monday. A lot of people seemed to forget how quickly we could be back in the bottom 3. That happened straight away on Monday night and a lot of people got more pessemistic about the situation as soon as we dropped a place (not just on here, I had mates text me as soon as Swansea scored that we were back in the bottom 3). My position never changed. We had a good result at the weekend and it's a start but unless we continue the good start we're not any better off.

No one has said that because the situation is poor and getting more desperate, that it won't change. The whole point was that action is needed to make that change happen. I think, at last , in your final sentence there you've hit upon something accurate. I did point out on Monday before the Swansea game that things would look a lot worse for us if Swansea won and that's exactly what happened. If we lose at the weekend and the mackems win we could go back down to 19th and things would look worse again. People get carried away when we drop down just as others got carried away when we moved up.

We're more than half way through the season and have only won 5 games and only scored in a few away games. That to me is pretty desperate. Is it impossible to get out of? Of course not. Is there enough time? Of course there is. However, is that time and the amount of games left getting less? Yes!
