  1. Aye, that was the nearest thing to logic I could come up with for the Dummett selection also.
  2. I had moments last season where I completely lost faith in Anita and I was probably being harsh as we were clearly a complete mess after Cabaye left and we also never really worked out how to use him. I thought he looked quite decent again on Sunday though and wouldn't be worried seeing him alongside Colback again. But I think Tiote is a big player for us so I he will be replacing Anita.
  3. We used to make the longer trip round to Pacific for lunch when I was there. Don't think I would have ever risked eating in Peppers. It used to be our pre & post match drinks place though, but like Alex I've never understood why. I couldn't really recommend it to anyone but it's usually worth a laugh. Someone from out of the area actually asked me if there was anywhere else like it nearby and the only place I could think of was Cosy Joes. I suppose Lennons back in the day too. That was another bar very inapropriately named given it's lack of Beatles music.
  4. I reckon if it ever looked like being an issue he would just block us getting there in some way. Rangers would require much less investment to get into Europe and win the league than we would. Therefore it makes sense for him keep us as his Sports Direct bitch in this country and rake in the Europe cash from Rangers.
  5. I suspect you can put it down to Pardew instructing him not to get too far forward against citeh. I hope (and expect given the way Debuchy played) that he'll be given more licence to push on against weaker sides. I thought he looked quite solid defensively and good on the ball if, as you say, unadventurous. I have no worries about him at all. He might not be an improvement on Debuchy but I think he'll slot in just fine.
  6. Sgt Peppers is hilarious you boring twats Admittedly it's shite though. I agree with MF about Ouseburn. Love the Tyne Bar.
  7. Me dads just the same with names like. He's never got Jonas right and apparently our leftback is called Stanton!
  8. Didn't it only get done up about a year ago? Used to be Fever. It is pretty good either way. I see Offshore's been done out and looks similar to the Bridge. And Popolo's supposed to be moving into what used to be Jimmyz. It would be nice if they made the Quayside worth going to again. Of course most of the time when I'm out in the town these days it's after the match so we usually end up in the likes of the Five Swans and Sgt Peppers!
  9. He could have also taken off Dummett (who obviously shoudln't have been playing in the first place) instead of Riviere and played with two strikers for the last ten minutes when we were a goal down. But we shouldn't look the fucking moron to make positive moves like that!
  10. He actually seems like a player who can use the ball pretty well. Not in the Cabaye league of picking out through balls but just playing simple passes in a positive way that moves us up the pitch. If he keeps up this level of performance I'll be more than happy. But as with the others he has to show that he can do it on a cold Tuesday night in Burnley as well as on his debut against the champions.
  11. Was wondering what his first excuse would be. But of course as always it's no excuse. We've had to buy all these new players that we're trying integrate into the team at once becuase we sold players in the first place. As has been pointed out many times, we've not actually tried to improve the squad, if that had been what we'd done we would have been in the position to bring these players through over time. The fact pardew has condoned all of the sales by publically backing Ashley means he should be ridiculed for coming out with such shite!
  12. We definitely didn't get enough support to Riviere early on. This will have been partly due to the usual Pardew negative tactics (although I'm not that certain that we can afford to play any more attacking against a team of Citeh's quality) and partly becuase the player who's going to be able to give him the most support wasn't there. I think against weaker teams and when SDJ is fit we will see us pushing further up.
  13. I was reading some pundit (may have been Souness) saying that Citeh need to be up for every team not just the other challenging clubs who it's easy to get up for. That is the same for us but inevitably we won't be with Coco still managing us. There will be games that we are a bit more sluggish in. Hopefully in those games we will have a bit more quality (particularly from the likes of Cabella and SDJ) or be able to utilise the eagerness of youth (Perez and Aarons for example) to push us on.
  14. The reason they deserved to win is the same reason why they won the league last season and they'll be up there again this season. They've spent hundreds of millions on assembling a team of world class player's. We simply don't have that and unless we get a multi billionaire owner who wants to have a very expensive play thing we never will. Those players created and finished the chances we couldn't. But that shouldn't detract from quite a few positives from today. Colback was very good (especially since I expected nothing from him) Cabella looks an exciting prospect and I think Janmaat and Riviere will both do well. I also think Perez will be useful coming off the bench. I think SDJ will make the biggest difference in allowing us to create chances and turn promising performances into wins. Overall a positive start. Two goals better than the start of last season too.
  15. I've got that on my Kindle. Unfortunately I've got the model that doesn't have streaming capability or an hdmi socket so I can't stick it on my telly. But it's a good app for watching stuff on the kindle.
  16. This has got to be the least surprising revelation about this whole case. Not saying that's true or anything but I always thought it was innevitable he'd get linked!
  17. Can't see the point in paying for cup games any more. I'll watch any that are on telly but can't see me going to any.
  18. DeGuzman was only on loan at Swansea. He's not there now.
  19. Never heard of this kid from Brighton they're signing. Anyone know anything about him?
  20. Well in that case. I didn't say Everton weren't in a better position. They've spent nearly £30m on a striker proven in this league. Unless Riviere or Chucky make massive unexpected strides or Cisse goes on a run like his first 6 months then we clearly have nothing near that level. They are light in numbers mind you. Kone is their only other senior out and out striker and he's never looked prolific over here. I also never said I was excited about our strikeforce at all. I just said there's potential there and that I see nothing in the overall striking options of any of the teams listed that makes me jealous other than the individual players I've listed. I thik SDJ playing off Riviere has potential but I also think we're asking a lot of Riviere to lead our line and score 15 goals +. IMO we should have signed a senior striker to do that. But I think it's more than possible that we can 10 goals each off Riviere, SDJ & Cisse. I also ignored the development players in all the teams.
  21. Potentially. But so could we with Riviere, SDJ & Chucky. Certainly what we've seen of the first two in preseason has been promising.
