  1. I agree with this but if there is a rule that you have to play a strong squad it should be enforced without us needing to take action. At the end of the day though it won't be Manure that I will be complaining about come Sunday night.
  2. Of course this doesn't always follow given that Kinnear and Souness both had tonnes of experience before they got here and were both shite and anything but successful.
  3. Casillas is much better than both of them tbf. Buffon isn't as good as some make out (certainly not any more) but I wouldn't rank Given as being much better than him. Not much in it for me.
  4. This isn't one of those misguided 'will relegation be good thing' questions by someone trying to put a positive spin on things (quite the opposite actually) but I was just wondering whether relegation really makes that much difference to us now. Let's face it, whether we are in the Premiership or Championship we will still have an owner who hasn't got a fucking clue how to run a football club and who won't invest enough transform us from being the absolute shite that we are. I don't see anything to look forward to being a Newcastle supporter at the minute. If we stay up we will be back in the same situation year after year until we do go down. If you have no intention of competing with the best in the league then why bother? If we do go down we will probably end up somewhere mid table in the championship so at least we'll get to see a few more wins (albeit against the likes of Blackpool and Barnsley). The way I see it is this is the way it will stay for the forseeable future unless Ashely is forced to sell because his investment is becoming less and less valuable. Only then might we be cheap enough for someone to come in and buy us and have the cash left over to spend big on players. Until then the big negatives of relegation will be that the makems will be able to lord it over us (for a season as they'd no doubt follow suit the next year), others will take the piss and we'll not get to see great players at St James Park (but as they're only going to be playing for the opposition I don't really care). It's not like we're going to lose all of our quality players as we quite simply have none. If there was any real threat of the club being bought that would be scupped by relegation then it would be different but as far as I can see we're stuck with that fat cunt for years to come.
  5. The way things are looking that certainly wouldn't be difficult.
  6. Well this one's Gary Kelly... Check out that shoulderpad-tastic keeper shirt too - I had one of those, they were class Who's the kid in between McDonald and Mirandinha. Michael O'NEILL looks young there. Anth Lormor I that's who I was going to say. Haven't seen him for years but occassionally used to play football with him on Battle Hill school field when I was a bairn. Those training tops were class btw, I used to have one.
  7. Anyone but us please. I don't give a fuck about them.
  8. Relegation would have been a disater under Sheperd but there would have been the possibility that he would have got us the funds to get back, under this fucking idiot it will be nothing short of a catastrophe. I fully expect that he will find some way to fuck us further and like Leeds we will be looked at as an example of how it can all go completely wrong.
  9. I thought Breaking the Waves was excellent. The Wrath of Kahn is easily the best Star Trek film for me too. I think I was just expecting a bit more after the brilliant Dogville. As I said I tought it was canny but something just didn't fire me up.
  10. Breaking The Waves 6/10. Canny film but longer than it needed to be and I really couldn't understand how Skarsgard's character could have ever ended up with the looney toon that was Emily Watsons character im the first place. Star Trek VI The Undiscovered Contry 7/10. Probably just behind Kahn as the best of the original films. White Heat 9/10. Not watched much Cagney but I thought this was excellent so I'll be watching some more soon. Star Trek 8/10. Did pretty much all you could ask from a Star Trek movie (Kirk shagging a green bitch, comedy relief from Scotty etc) and I think the alternate timeline thing isn't such a bad idea when you restarting a franchise like this.
  11. F For Fake - 6/10. Interesting but not something I would say was a great film.
  12. I use emusic to download some albums off. I pay £6 a month for 40 songs and got 50 free when I signed up. It's a canny way of getting very cheap albums but still giving something to artists. Mind you it's all independent labels on there so it depends on your tastes.
  13. Get the fuck in. I'm working in smogsville tomorrow so I shall be enjoying myself greatly While I've been a strong advocate of Jonas all season, Lovenkrands is looking much more of a threat for us.
  14. First time I've ever really felt nervous before playing this lot. Normally I don't care about them any more than the likes of Blackburn or Wigan but this time there is so fucking much riding on it. I need to get the the town and get a drink inside me.
  15. Has he made any other really good films other than Chinatown (which is admittedly amazing)? Edit; On further investigation it appears I've only seen another three of his films (Rosemary's Baby, Frantic & The Ninth Gate) and while none of them are bad, none of them are close to being great either (appart from having John Cassavettes in RB).
  16. Don't think he's anywhere near as bad as what some are making out. He started pretty well and has generally only looked really bad when he's been put on the left of the two centre half where he just cannot play. He does lack a bit of pace and presence in the air but more than anything his confidence is now just shot to pieces. He looks like a rabbit in headlights but I have a certain amount of sympathy for him there given what's gone on here this season. No doubt we will hear him slagging off his time here next season when he's back in Spain but with the comedy this place has been I wouldn't blame him. At the end of the day even if he has a complete mare tonight handing Alves a hatrick, very little of the responsibility for us going down would lie with the likes of him.
  17. The Leopard 7/10. Well made and an execellent performanc from Lancaster despite him being dubbed into Italian. Interesting film but not one I ever really fell for. The Desperate Hours 6/10/ Not Bogarts best film by any means but he puts in a solid shift as the bad guy and as with all of his films it's well worth a watch.
  18. Watched Lady Vengence last night. Both of them are class. I must get round to watching Mr Vengence Can't wait to see them if they're a patch on Oldboy. Gonna 'acquire' them over the weekend I think. Oldboy really is one of the best films I've seen. I have Akira(already seen + loved) and Battle Royale to watch this weekend too. A friend passed on about 200gig of moves to me, so I have some catching up to do. From what I've read elsewhere Mr Vengence is better than Lady Vengence which I thought was excellent. Not as action packed as Oldboy though. Battle Royale is very good too.
  19. Sonic Youth's new one. Enjoying it greatly.
  20. They were missing their two senior centrebacks and Puyol at least will be back for the final so I wouldn't be too confident just yet. Alves is a major loss for them though.
  21. Spot on Brock. Fucking awful refereeing but great finish from probably the most underrated player in the world.
