88 Minutes - Not bad but Pacino should be doing much better. -
Good list though. Some amazing omissions. You know I remembered seeing Predator as a cover but then couldn't remember it on the list itself. Surprised I only made that many errors tbh
-

You were right. No you weren't. Death Race. Gash. -
I disagree. I think films that honestly question and explore the profound human issues; hopes, fears, dissapointments, dreams, belief; issues that everyone of our epoch fundamentally shares (such as Andrei Rublev and Ordet), are films that truly appeal to humanity in general and on a much wider scale than The Dark Knight or Blade Runner could ever fathom to do. These films try to please their audiences with explosions, expensive set pieces, famous actors - but all it shows is that the filmmakers (the producers, director, cinematographer) have no respect for his audience because all they are doing by making such films is training the audience to insure their own income, not training them by giving them works of art that will inspire. Bollocks. Most people watch films simply to be entertained by taking themselves away from reality for a couple of hours and judging by films like Death Race it's explosions that entertain them. They can't be bothered to think or watch slow moving studies of emotions let alone read a film. There is an audience for the films in your top ten but it's certainly not the people who basically finance the movie industry by paying for tickets.

It's time for a Sloop top ten like. I reckon it could give Parky's list a run for its money in the pretension stakes. I have to admit Andrei Rublev is one of the ones from the top 100 I've not seen. Come And See Harold And Maude A Matter Of Life And Death The Life And Death Of Colonel Blimp Spirit Of The Beehive Evil Dead 2 Network Are all on my to see list too. Not seen any of those apart from Network and Life & Death and I'm also missing 8 1/2, La Dolce Vita, Three Colours Red, Yojimbo and Spirit Of The Beehive.

Just noticed Tokyo Story in top 100
-
Only three in that top twenty five that I don't have on DVD.

Was very glad to see Paris Texas in the list although it should have been in the top ten. It certainly was in mine. Btw I don't think people like Sloop should even read lists like this are they are always going to piss them off. The majority of people out there (even movie magazine readers) are going to enjoy films that appeal to broad section of society. Films made by blind lesbians from Poland just don't have that universal appeal.

Surely it wasn't his knee that was injured in the first place?

Fucking hope not but wouldn't surprise anyone. Unfortunately he's never been surrounded with the right people since he became a pro.

In an emergancy interim role I think we could do a hell of a lot worse and would struggle to do better.
-
I wouldn't worry, none of them will be there anyway most likely.

Fucking hell I was at that game - it was eerie watching a match with the ground almost empty. Was Oliver Bierhoff playing or was that Ascoli? Can't remember tbh - all the Anglo-Italian games from that season blurred into one although I went to them all. The only one that sticks in the mind is the one where David Kelly was sent off at the end for putting the studs of both boots into the mid-rift of one of the Italians. Their bench was like the Mafia IIRC Think I was at that one. I seem to remember DK getting sent off but can't remember owt else. Not going tonight like, doubt I would have gone anyway with it being on Sky but I can't bring myself to pay more to them at the moment whether he's on his way out or not. It's a shambles that I'm not willing to pay any more to be a part of regardless.

Burn the heretic!!! (Unless he's another exception in which case I'll let you off) Should have Heard (Pat) and Stewart (Ian) if you want to up the shittiness. Actually did have Pat Heard in at first and he probably was worse than disco Des but I decided on the one more people would have heard of. Stewart was shite but I would say Serant would earn his place above him in a team of shite. Varadi was one of two V's I could think of and put in purely on the basis that Vianna had already been on. I don't think I ever saw him play for us but he was pretty decent from what I've heard.
-
Without assistance and baring a few notable exceptions one of the worst squads I could think of. Appleby Brady Cunningham Dagleish Elliott Fereday Gudjonsen Hamilton I Jackson Kelly Lee McDonald (Rob) Nielsen O’Neill Pinas Quinn Reilly Serant Tommasson U Varadi Whitehurst Xisco Y Zambrela

Reinstating Kevin Keegan would be the ultimate cop-out
David Kelly replied to Happy Face's topic in Newcastle Forum
Typical bollocks. Use the 'stats' to come up with shite that makes no sense in reality and try to claim that he and all of his mates knew better to begin with than to bring Keegan back. And it's also worth noting that this clown accidently comes up with one of the biggest counter arguments to his own point. He says that we need a top class manger to take us forward but then says he hasn't got clue who this would be. That is because there isn't a top class manager out there who would touch us at the moment unless we get new owners willing to spend £100m in the transfer window. We, the deluded masses up here, are fully aware of this point and so want the best for the club. And that is the man who got a team in serious danger of relegation because of the inadequacies of the last manger, half way up the league and playing good football again. A team which has since he left, shipped in five goals against two of the most mediocre teams you are ever likely to see. -
