  1. I thought it was complete horse shit. I thought I was unhappy with Kill Bill vol 2, but this drags Tarantino down to a Rob Zombie level of uninspired drivell. Inland Empire It is an incredibly dull film, and vacuous to boot. Everyone in Hollywood is a whore wracked with self doubt? You don't say! Is this a revelation that warrants three meandering and incomprehensible hours on the thought process of an actress? But then again it did intrigue me. I did after all sit there for the full 3 hours. And through the entire end credits (which I never do) and then for a little bit longer to think about it some more. And I want to watch it again to see if I can get my head round it, but it's the cinematic equivalent of a Paul Mckenna cd to cure insomnia, so I can't see that happening. Maybe I'm being harsh because I'd just watched Sicko beforehand and that was about a real issue (you know, people whose kids have died and that) wheras this is plainly pretentious guff about people who get paid to play dress-up. This is an unfair comparison as Inland Empire has a sense of humour about it's subject, just not a particularly funny one. I liked the Beck and Nina Simone tunes. And the Locomotion. I've also not seen all of Lynch's other films and there seemed to be a lot of references to the one I have, so maybe you need to be more familiar with his oeuvre (christ I'm more pretentious than Lynch) to 'get it', but even if that is the case, I still think a film should stand on it's own. The really annoying thing is reading back all the reviews by people that love it. I've not seen one be specific about where it's excellence lies. It's all vague gubbins about how brilliant it is that it makes no sense and how labrynthine it is, is that a good thing now? Feeling lost by your story teller? Mind, Laura Dern was good. But she's canny in Jurassic Park too, which was a much more fun experience. I've still got Mullholland Drive there to watch too. Looking forward to that. Mullholland drive is fantastic, one of my favourite films but based on your above review I'm not sure you will like it (although I've not seen Inland Empire yet I suspect there are a lot of similarities to Mullholland Drive and Lost Highway). Death Proof is horse shit but it's meant to be and I thought the action scenes were hillarious.
  2. Finally finished Fitzcarraldo and I must I was bored senseless by it. Kinski puts in a good performance but that's about it.
  3. Thank fuck he's gone. Disgrace of a professional tbh.
  4. I should have said sounds like what we need going off what others have said!
  5. Can't wait for this. It's the most I've anticipated a new film for a lot of years.
  6. We're crying out for someone who can play a killer ball (when was the last time we looked like splitting a defence?) and while I haven't seen this guy play he seems like exactly the type of player we need.
  7. It was a very good performance last night after the first 15-20 minutes when we looked shakey as fuck. Yes they were and are far superior technically to us but by showing greater hunger we earned the right to get into some good positions and put them under a lot of pressure. For my money we deserved the win, Given had a lot less to do than Almunia. Obviously the challenge is to keep this going against weaker teams like Birmingham because tbh this should be the way we go out every game. Players tire and there is more addrenalin to keep it up when your playing the likes of Arsenal but if we start a game this way then it puts you on a good footing for the rest of the game and should allow us to use our superior ability than the weaker teams.
  8. I predict he would last about ten games before his head was being called for!
  9. How can you fall asleep watching Kinski? The man's mesmerising. His performance is good but the story just seems dull as fuck (something I thought before even starting to watch it but I dismissed that after the reviews it gets). It gets going once they get to the hill. Still not there, I fell asleep again last night just after they kicked the two blokes and birds of the boat for fighting.

  11. Spot on really. The last couple of seasons have been the most depressing that I have known, the football has been crap (although I've been going long enough to remember worse) and the crowd has ranged from apathetic to aggresive and the high points have been very few and far between. My love of football is what's suffering the most. I still always want to be at the match but more often than not I can no longer be bothered to watch matches on the telly. I won't ever give away my season ticket though and I will keep hoping that we are going to see things get right. Back on the topic of Allardyce, while I still believe he would be able to do a good job for us given the propper time I just think he's never going to get it and I would not be at all surprised if he wasn't in charge come Saturday (if he is and we don't win he certainly won't be for much longer). The more I think about it the more I am behind the idea of Shearer coming in. The club (more importantly the fans) seems in need of something to reignite it in the same way it did when Keegan arrived. It's sad to say this considering how short a period it is since we were in the champions league and we are obviously in a much better position now than we were when McKeag was in charge but it really does feel like the whole place is so flat. The prodical son coming home might just be the thing to do it. I only hope that if it happens he brings in some experienced quality coaches and not just go with his fan favourite mates like Lee & Speed. I cant imagine it having the same effect though, I'm sure Shearer wont be allowed the time ( by the fans) in the way that Keegan was. Also Shearer has only been gone a season and there has been almost constant speculation about him being our boss unlike Keegan who came more out of the blue. I don't see anyone being given much time anymore but I do think Shearer would get more than any other manager from the fans and if the fans give him time then he will in turn get time from his boss You're right about the constant speculation which was there well before he even retired. It might not be the same thing as Keegan as he came right out of the blue with no one ever considering that he would be our manager. But I do think it is possible that Shearer might be able to get everyone united and put a bit of a spring in peoples step. Tbh I can't really believe that I am starting to advocate this at all but the way the fans have turned on Allardyce so quickly this season really has made me think that no one other than Shearer would get the backing required to put things right. I that might be the key factor.

  13. I'm trying to watch Fitzcaraldo without much success. I keep nodding off every time I put it on. Needless to say it's doing nowt for me at all.
  14. Tbh things are really looking quite bleak at the moment. These sort of things are completely the opposite of what I expected from us with Allardyce here. It's looking more and more like he is dead in the water at the moment especially after we lose to Arsenal tomorrow.
  15. Nat King Cole by a country mile. I don't often listen to him but is voice is absolutely fantastic. Dean Martin wasn't too shabby either, far superior to Sinatra.
  16. De Niro and Kietel are both fantastic in it. You'd have to be a mook to not to love it!
  17. Raging Bull and Mean Streets would be the closest for me although Goodfellas is my favourite.
  18. I love Chinese restaurants but I've got a bit sick of takeaways. Wor lass could eat a chinese takaway every night and not get bored (even though she's an excellent cook and make much better stuff herself) but I think she's put me off a bit. Plus I really like Kung Pow (that spelling is probably wrong) and not many takeaways do that. Mandelay in Jesmond is excellent although it's not just Chinese. Oh and I hate all you can eat Chinese, they always seem to have been stood out for ages and taste rank.
  19. Probably ranks as my second favourite film ever.
  20. Totally agree and I would add that this is my favourite Coen film. Tuesday to Thursday's looking a bit thin.
  21. I don't want it to sound like this is what I think should happen because I believe given the time and backing Allardyce will do a good job for us. I just don't think he will get that from the fans and they will probably force Ashley's hand and as long as Shearer is out there he will always be hanging over the head of anyone who comes in. And top mangers will know this and stay away because of it. We have to get it out of the way because it will hamper our progress if we don't and I just hope that for the reasons I suggested above it does work.
  22. I'm actually at the stage now that I think Shearer might well be our best bet. If we sack Allardyce no top class manager will touch us (unless he is promised a ridiculous amount of money) so we might as well take a chance on Shearer. He will at least get the backing of the morons who won't give other managers more than five games to turn us into title contenders. Hopefully he might turn out to be a very good manager or at least he might stir up the crowd and get us some momentum like Keegan did. I get the feeling he would also demand a good amount of funds too so at least we might be able to bring some decent players in.
  23. I'm moving house and want to get broadband in as well as needing a phone line put in. Anyone know of any good packages about? It seemed we were paying a fortune for BT in the old house when we hardly used the phoe, just so we could have sky in.
  24. WOD is definitely worth watching if you have it but I would definitely recomend Paris Texas if you've not seen that yet. Quite possibly the best film I've seen this year.
