I'd like to see another central midfielder too as i think a decision needs to be made on whether Guthrie can develop more or needs to be shipped out. A good squad player but if Nolan is out, we are weak in the middle. I think the reason Pardew didnt bring Barton inside and put Colo there instead was because of how weak it would have made our flank. Barton has to be seen as an option in the middle, not just as an out and out winger. However, he was left out there because he has the discipline (positional) and know-how to play there and compensate for his lack of pace. Guthrie cant and is not showing himself as a dominant sort in the centre so both positions need extra depth for me. I hear what your saying, of course Barton is and will be an option through the middle when Nolan gets tired or injured. Then we would need an option on the right. Routledge would be a shout, has pace and has done well at QPR. If we could get Lens or Gervinho then our options are far better but id not move Barton into the middle permanently. Guthrie imo wont ever be much good. Get him and Ranger out on loan and see what happens. If we do let him go out on loan then we need another option other than gosling and vuckic. Taarabt?

Well yeah i agree to a point. Id get rid of lovenkrands, use best and shola as backup, bring in two strikers but one of them as an immediate 1st teamer. Taylor should be in there with colo and williamson/kadar as cover. Simspon is good enough but we do need someone to challenge him. I dont agree about the pacey right winger though, not if its to start games regularly. Barton is best out wide. But an option off the bench of in odd games would be good. What i suggest would just be to prepare for next season, if we finish in european places next year then we can look at a better RB, another quality striker to rotate and possibly a RM because then, at that time nolan and barton would be losing the legs. Nolans are starting to go anyway.

Simpson is good enough and has shown it, as too is Saylor. Barton has been far better for us at RM than in the middle. If we were to play Barton in the middle that would mean droppin Nolan and that wont happen. It cant happen, he is too important to us at the moment. There for RM isnt an issue nor is RB. Routledge coming back, if he does, will give us cover but yes we do need a RB but only as cover and competition with Simpson. AP has said that HBA will play as a kinda number 10 with is in the hole behind a striker so really we only need ONE striker to go straight into the side. Granted that ALL players signed who arent going into the 1st team need to be good enough to challenge to be there though. One striker for the 1st team. One striker to challenge the 1st team. One RB to challenge Simpson. One LB to cover for Enrique or One first team LB should Enrique leave. Possibly one winger who can cover both flanks. The likes of Shola, Best, Guthrie, Gosling, Routledge, Raylor, Lua-Lua, Vuckic, Kadar and Williamson should only be squad players when legs get tired. Should be blooded in cup games and in last 20 mins of games we are comfortable.

Ben Arfa, Barton, Tiote, Nolan, Coloccini, Jonas and Enrique. They are the solid and top class spine we build our team around. Next season we really will have a side well capable of a top 7 finish. A few quality signings in the summer and that will only reinforce that. I think the only one we run the risk of losing is Enrique but i have a feeling we mite just keep a hold of him. I actually think we only need ONE player to go straight into the 1st team next season and thats a target man up front. 3 or 4 more to bulk the squad out too. Very VERY good perfomance and result. We were better in the first half than the second like, really should of scored when we were on top but i guess thats the way it goes. Especially when we dont have any quality strikers. Barton should of scored like. Second half we sat back, lost a little momentum and gave ManU far too much respect, jonas and barton went missing. That said, i thought our defending was top drawer at times. Tiote was a beast (dont like how redknapp is stoking the fire...15mil/could play for man u) and so was coloccini, even williamson played well with a few quality blocks. Very encouraging and not too suprising neither, i felt we would get something and we did...and deserved it. On to Blackpool now and i expect us to muller them. Krul...8 Didnt have much to do but when he was called upon he showed exactly why he's touted the next VDS. Enrique...7 Got forward and linked well with jonas, faded in second half. Simpson...6 Average performance, did ok, nothing special but was VERY lucky at the end....it wasnt a penalty but so easily could of been given by some refs. Williamson...7 One of his best games for the club. Some tremendous blocks. Coloccini...8 A rock, calm, collected and is the heartbeat to our back 4 Barton...7 Started of fantastic, some amazing balls but no striker to finish them. Faded badly in second half. Jonas...8 Same as barton, started off great with some brilliant runs but final ball let him down again...releaved pressure with his running. Tiote...9 Absolute beast in the middle, bossed it, picked up loose balls, spread play well and he tried to score for me like i asked Guthrie...7 Few good balls and covered ground, still not good enough though. Shola...7 Put himself about, few nice touches but should of scored. Lovenkrands...7 Again put himself about, looked hungry but not good enough at this level now. Ireland...7 Doesnt look fit but showed a few good touches and was unlucky not to score. Ranger...HE IS SHIT
