  1. It's not dying out but it's certainly being eroded. More to charver talk than posh though I reckon. And personally I prefer the latter. As I said earlier, charver talk does my head in. It's just awful and in no way should be associated with the area as a whole. I want my kids to pick up some Geordie but also I want them to be polite with it, if they started speaking charver (scotchie ) I'd start snapping their pencils/crayons and stick a knife in their ball

  3. Not sure. If you move out of the area your accent can soften and worse case you can pick up a new accent of where you live. Some people seem immune to that. With that in mind, you would expect that people moving in to this area would pick up the accent over time. Or at least the odd word and phrase. But any language evolves over time. Thats why I can't understand these people who are up in arms when people dont use grammar correctly "Dogs Dog's Dogs'" and so on. The rules are generally confusing and can be debated by doctors in English language (not that particular example ). But it evolves as it always has. Words come and go. Hence now what things like "woot" and "retweet" are now in the English Oxford. I was pulled up on something the other day which I never gave a second thought to. All I said was "Am ganna get wrang when I get hyem". Lass I was talking to asked me to break down what I'd said so I repeated it as "I'm going to get wrong when I get home" and she still said that was a northern saying. It was actually the "getting wrong" part that she has such issue with
  4. With the Italian name? Aye, that used to be nice. Thats the one. Sure he was called Mario. Had a picture on his wall of him and Melinda Messenger from when he won some chippy of the year or something.
  5. Tend to avoid drinking in Town (minus the odd bar here and there) for that very reason. Places like Florita's with VIP sections ffs. As I said to Mac geordies have changed from Oz's to Neville's in 25 years. I suppose Thatcher and globalisation are the key players in that though. Its funny though, I'm immensely proud of where I'm from. I've always said I'm a Geordie first and English second. I'd happily have us as our own little state. I've got a fantastic book at home called Northern roots that talks about our local history going back to around 55AD mainly. Talks about our dialect and what we are made up of. Def worth a read. But, while I was brought up in benwell and didnt have much on the money front, its natural to want better for your kids. But, though we moved to durham, I'm determined to make sure they pick up some of my accent. though thats tricky I know. It's sad that some of the local accent is being watered down. When bathing the kids I'll sit and teach them phrases like "gan canny" much to the wifes distaste That said, I'd certainly not be looking at the big market for a generalisation on what we have become or becoming.
  6. The chippy on the team valley used to be canny. Done a cracking Cod. Burgers were canny as well. For nearer home I used to like gormans near the Gilpin in west denton. Was a good one at denton burn as well but cant remember what it was called. Was that a Gormans as well? Near the Denton?
  7. Thinking of stuff I used to eat. My gran used to take dripping from the chip pan, fry some bacon and then soak the bread in the melted dripping fat rather than butter it. Proper bacon sarnie
  8. Pork Luncheon Meat was a mainstay on our plates as kids. Pek Chopped Pork was used in a variety of ways, ranging from but not limited to; Pizzas, Sandwiches, Pasta. I still like it personally, though she wont entertain it in the house as she says it smells like catfood. I'm a creation of all that I've done in my past and what I've seen. Lived in Exeter/Torquay for a couple of years in the early 00s. Most people would tone the accent down and be more respectful of others 'way of life'. Unfortunately, I found myself, and still do to this day, comparing everything to my upbringing. I had a normal Geordie upbringing. Dad owned pubs (The Central, Half Moon, Station, Queens Head) so lived above one until I was about 10. LCL, Corned Beef and Beetroot Sandwiches and KP crisps were a delicacy in my mind until I was about 16. You's are right though, if we were all the same it'd be a boring existance. Don't mean to come across as a cock when bigging up our area or thinking I'm Uber Geordio. Places like TupTup and them bars at the bottom of the Bigg Market sicken me though. They're not inkeeping with our heritage or way of life in Newcastle. This is why there are soo many muscle laden mongs in v-neck tshirts out on the drink everynight in Town. Anyway, anyone fancy doing a come dine with me TT special? I can come to yours and feast on beautiful wines and scallops then you can come to mine and I'll dish up a jacket taity and cheese with a slab of Kestrel Super Strength? Not had that for years. Used to slice luncheon meet, fry it, add some brown sauce and chuck in some bread. Lush.
  9. Arguably the best on this entire thread. Looks like a young Martine but with blonde hair. Mighty mighty fine that like. Can't pick a fault at all. If I did I'd have some serious questions to ask myself.
  10. I just take people as I see them. I really couldnt give a shite. If someone wants to talk "posh" despite being born in benwell, so fuck. I'll not go over what Ive already said, but I've seen both ends of the spectrum. I have customers who own yachts and go around florida in them, and I've got customers who work from home in Walker and Jarrow. I can be with one of them in the morning and one in the afternoon. I'm pretty well known that when Im talking to customers my accent softens and I dont swear at all. But, I go on the piss with some mates and my accent is back to normal. If Im at home its somewhere in between. I say accent, it's mainly how much I use slang etc. But I've no problem with that and tbh if someone looked down at me for doing that, it's them that has the problem, not me. Bit like Alex says, I struggle to see a different between looking down at someone for speaking in a broad accent or losing the accent all together despite bring from benwell etc, you're still looking down on someone. I couldn't give a shite and I'm not easily offended. Unless its a chav, for whatever reason that nasal whining speech just makes me want to shove my boot on their mouth. Oh, and I say stuff like "its dinner time" at 12pm at work. But Id also say "Im nipping out for some lunch" also "going home to get me tea". Again, who gives a fuck really People get worked up by some fucking stupid things
  11. Oh and I couldnt eat last nights food. Sometimes I will if I make a chilli, Ill freeze some, but mostly the thought of old food turns my stomach. Same as any food at its best by date, I just bin it.
  12. Thankfully not. My lot know I eat healthy but think I'm weird with it as well and that I go to extreme I think pretty careful about what I eat these days. I still have the odd "treat" but seldom. I hardly drink, just sociably. Don't go out with the intention to get pissed anymore. I'd sooner have a few beers in a beer garden, or bottle of wine with a good meal. I love italians but never get pizza or pasta. Usually chicken breast with veg ina tomato based sauce. Example of today's food, what I've brought with me: Box of mixed veg, can tuna, two packs 200g chicken breast, small tub of mixed fruit, small natural greek yoghurt. You'll notice in there I dont eat any starchy carbs (bread, rice etc). I do eat those, just seldom. Also have 50g oats each morning. On the flip side, two lads I work with eat at greggs most days or go to the snack van and get mixed grills etc.
  13. You can get a lot of it here Depressingly it shows NUFC having a t/o of approx £125M and over the last 5 years is slipping under £90M and off the table. At the point we were at £125M it does show Everton around £40M behind. I'd guess that gap is closer now and if I could be arsed, could likely find their figures for the last 5 as well. But I cant.
  14. I'm wary. We played a poor Arsenal side and didnt look like scoring. We then played a derby game where the result is always tricky and scored from a set piece. I think we are close to having a decent starting 11 IF and only IF we sign a decent forward and ideally a LB (I say a Fwd is more important than the LB). If we get both, we will have a stronger team than last season and I think we'd aim for 10th or so. Without a new forward I think we'll struggle for goals and finish similar to last season. Depth and more so quality in depth is still an issue. Best, Perch, Lovenkrands, Shola etc are all average players and cant do much from the bench. Dont know enough about Ba and Marv to judge. Also CH I thnk Taylor and Colo look decent together but thats it, where is the depth? Williamson similar to Taylor tbh in being prone to odd howler. Still chuffed with 4 pts from 6 when I thought we'd do well to get 2. Ask the same question again after 6 games.
  15. Here you go, THE best web designers site I've seen - here

    Beards

Bit like Stevie, wor lass prefers me with stubble. Kids find it funny as well. I can't go more than a week though. For one I'd have a shit beard, I get no growth on my cheeks and loads on my neck and chin etc. Also it itches like fuck on my neck when it gets too long. So I use a beard trimmer set so it leaves a bit of length. Such a hassle shaving though. Especially when the battery runs out mid way...
  17. Dont like the idea like when the club give them out, but I do think it better when there are a lot of them plus banners etc. Adds to the atmosphere. We should hold them aloft while singing (the wrong words) blaydon races. Would be good to see it again, but I can't imagine it taking off. If people around the ground done it every time that was sang for example, it may catch on. Slim chance though.
  18. Vote yes. But only just. That is itself is wrong though. With the £35M from Carroll we were told it would all be reinvested we should be much stronger. I know the window hasnt closed yet but we've had since Jan to find a forward and we all knew Jose would be off.
  19. Something like a mackem lass was really going off on one (I mentioned her a few posts back) and Stevie (rightly!) had a go at her, and said something like she was the mackem version of that SJ lass. She didnt take too kindly and much hilarity began she gave as good as she got like tbf, making it entertaining reading this morn. Stevie not known for pulling his punches. A few others tried to throw the odd comment in but it was fairly lost really between the two. Funny as fuck like, neither were gonna back down it seemed.

  22. Over the fucking moon. going to go cut the grass to celebrate....
  23. End of Sept is estimated
  24. Pressure certainly on them and they fully expect to thrash us. All predictions from the unwashed are 3-0's and 4-0's etc. Thats their level of expectation. But, like PP says, we're a mess at the minute. It feels like we are still in pre-season. We've still not replaced our forward and let our LB go despite talking bollocks about having plans to replace. First Pardoo said he wanted 2 in before this game, then he was saying it would be harsh to put new players in anyway for such a game. Once again, tripping over in own bullshit. best I think we can hope for is Barton leading the middle and keeping the tempo high, not letting them play. We have a decent CH pairing though Taylor is prone to giving pens away and I could see Gyan trying for that. Alsl reckon they'll try and wind up Barton. I'd take a nervy 1-1 now.
