  1. Wtf is that all about? It makes no sense at all. First time I became aware of it was flat sharing with 2 lasses and another lad. When we moved in we initially had plans to share shopping cooking cleaning etc. First food shop was a £20 each (this is in the 90s too), the lasses came back with indoor clothes lines, clothes pegs, air fresheners, batteries etc and around one and half meals for the four of us. The whole affair soon descended into a shambles.
  2. http://www.guardian.co.uk/commentisfree/2012/dec/20/bernstein-murdoch-ailes-petreaus-presidency Unbelievable.
  3. The Dark Knight Rises. So many things wrong with it, nowhere near as good as the first 2. Still enjoyed it though.
  4. Usually because you are feeding loads more people than normal, possibly lunches and dinners, over a few days, where you eat more than normal and the shops arent open.
  5. One of the most popular websites in the world now isnt it?
  6. Was there not another longer one from a while back?
  7. Cheers Cat. So why when i searched for 'end world' 'end of the world' then 'end of the world' thread, the search engine produced 3 pages without it in? I guess that question isnt aimed at you specifically.
  8. Where is the 'end of the world thread'? Slightly panicked here.
  9. auto correct is brilliant because it makes all the people who couldnt spell and used text speak now have to think about spelling.
  10. 6 photos down you'll notice she's got a bit of macaroni pasta stuck to the sleeve of her arm. She probably had a bowl in the VIP before she left.
  11. A distracting counter-productive one that Tiote himself does not appear to get either. Annoys me too, 1-2 down against City with the wind behind us and Tiote had a shot when a pass was on. It's not that funny either.
  12. If Goldman Sachs are set to make billions out of global climate change concerns and they are, as their management have explained, doing god's work, then it must be true.
  13. You think thats scary, listen to this.
  14. That Andres tune is RA'a and FACT's tune of the year. The Anthony Naples track is in the RA top 10 too. Absolute quality, the break is thing of absolute beauty.
  15. Hughes knocked the ball past him on the break and he stuck the arm out and clothes-lined him. I also detest him.
  16. I dont agree that you have to spend to stand still. It all depends where you are and what resources you have. I think in our situation, this has been shown to be true but i dont think its some sort of Premier League truism. Its only true for us because of injuries. There is something else going on too, people are speculating about morale, problems behind the scenes etc but that speculation is a bit facile imo. I believe the problem is a mixture of factors, certainly the lack of investment and therefore our continued deployment of Championship standard players. Secondly the injuries & suspensions giving us a lack of continuity. Thirdly, Pardew. My personal take is what i've called the 'difficult second album' syndrome. This is actually a recognised phenomena in sporting teams and it has, imo, contributed to our position. The dynamics of any team environment evolves over time, the higher performing teams will drive that evolution more quickly as expectations, roles, frustration etc change because of the change in how players see themselves in the team. I think Pardew has not got his head round this, i think that his management techniques need to be a bit more circumspect and address the fact that even though the personnel has not changed, the team has. Maybe he has tried but its clear its not worked. We are less at it during games than last season because we are not motivated, enthused, believing and working for each other like last season. Pardew needs to sort it out but its not, in my experience anyway, something you can waive a magic wand at.

Pipe down, me and Ben Goldacre are talking.
  18. I might be wrong but wasn't Darts turned into a sport because of that show? As in, no one played it before, then after Indoor League it became a national game.

Yes, there have been a few different hypothesised relationships in the thread hence the general statement. I'm not going to review the link but suffice to say I'm a Bayesianist not a frequentist so I believe in the arbitrariness of p<0.05 and in fact would argue at the theoretical level that p<0.5 is adequate for a rational decision maker. That's not going to fly within the mainstream of the medical or scientific communities but is a superior and more rational framework. If e.g omega oils showed a numerical advantage but with a p value of 0.06, are they ineffective? I would seriously doubt whether a fixed or random effects meta-analysis across studies of omega oils is even possible given the inevitable and large levels of within / inter-study bias. Our scientific training means we can just as easily poke holes into the methods of systematic reviews as of the trials themselves. But that's all meant to be a generic point of view, I'm sure the conclusions in this case are robust. However, when I think about neutraceuticals, supplements etc its very difficult to envisage the right endpoints for such studies and conceive of controlled study designs. If there is a basic hypothesis supported by a biological mode of action then I'm happy to listen. Eating lots of fish is 'good for you' so ingesting the same stuff found in fish is also good for you if it's metabolised / ingested whatever in the same or similar ways by the body. What evidence do we have that fish is good for us? Is it backed up by controlled studies? What were the endpoints?
