  1. In no particular order. The Sundays - Reading, Writing, Arithmetic Chemical Brothers - Dig Your own hole Happy Mondays - Pills & Thrills Primal Scream - Screamadelica Leftfield - Leftism KLF - Chill Out Underworld - Dub no bass Portishead - Dummy Massive Attack - Blue Lines Daft Punk - Daft Punk
  2. Christmas Tree, on 06 December 2012 - 09:42 AM, said: You dont think its good that we can borrow at lower rates than Germany? Are you mad? I dont think many people get how ridiculous this line of argument is.
  3. Austerity cuts don't make them more confident in us, that's been proven already. It's bond traders who determine the rate we borrow at, not ratings agencies. We'd be borrowing less if Osborne had focussed on the economy rather than the accounts. Worst chancellor in living memory.
  4. Love San Sebastian, beautiful place. Hope you enjoy the match.
  5. Was hoying it down in Geneva, de-icing trucks were spraying the wings before take off.
  6. Lived just round the corner from us in Monkseaton, was a customer in my dad's shop for years. Always thought he was from Durham for some reason.
  7. That argument was won months ago, the idiots who proclaimed spending had to be cut to reduce our borrowing requirements should now all see if that spending grows the economy it reduces borrowing. Cuts shrink the economy and increase out borrowing. The most frustrating thing right now is every man and his dog is talking about the fiscal cliff thus acknowledging that Keynes works in reverse but inexplicably can't join the logical dots and see therefore it must work the other way round. If fiscal cliffs exist then so do fiscal stimuli. It's so obvious yet no one says it.
  8. Pitchfork didn't discover electronic music until the last decade. Their 80s album list is much better because it was necessarily done retrospectively since they are all 90s kids. Their 90s list reflects more what they were actually listening to in that period as the fanzine had already started by then. It's also a really old list and am not sure it reflects where they are editorially today, since they brought in writers with more expertise in electronic music. Their top 500 tunes book better reflects 90s music imo.
  9. Stole my 'difficult second album' line but nice to see.
  10. I'm alright Jack, pull the ladder up.
  11. "Ho dee Ho, Hi dee Hi" That Jay Chappell After Hours is excellent, remembered the After Eights style cover. I didn't know that about Frank Zappa, wor kid might have as he is a Zappa freak.
  12. Aye best of luck with all that Tooj, hope you get some better attention. I assume they've ruled out a neuropathy?
  13. Munich was as you predicted btw, forced jollility was the order of the evening. Instead of watching the Stoke match I was in an "authentic" 16th century Bavarian tavern where we had to eat with our hands (and a massive dagger), blokes couldn't serve the beer and some couple dressed like something out of Rentaghost played whistles and pipes. It was a laugh but a bit odd.
  14. Green Velvet - Flash Danny Tenaglia mix is probably the best, hysterical track. "Cameras ready, prepare to flash!"
  15. Just looking at that track list there, the Fire Island remix (Farley & Heller) reminded me of this track Which is guaranteed to rock your Christmas parties.
  16. I think a few of them are on 100 lbs, the compilation album. You want to hear all 9 tracks off phono 01 to 03. Even the minimal tracks are layered with intricate beats made up from sampling god knows what everyday items, as is his style. There is a part 4 and 5, I've got a limited edition 'classic Herbert' which has 3 of the 4 tracks off 5 on it. Will check out that Sneak album later this week Alex, I picked up a few Sneak tracks on Strictly over the years, that album is classic New York Sound Factory style.
  17. Pints of Noel de Leffe. On special at me lercal.
  18. PL, I've got a mint copy of that Bocca Juniors track. Love it.
  19. Some class tracks on that. Have you read Ralph Lawson's blog? It's a canny read, some good stories etc.
  20. If she really wants some bubbly for Xmas for having friends over and that, suggest getting some Italian Prosecco. You can get amazing quality for less than a tenner a bottle and its considered as good as champagne by many. Tesco, M&S etc would be my statin points, I reckon you can find decent ones for around 7 or 8 a bottle. I prefer Prosecco to Cava which is the other option of course.
  21. 20:20 Vision Recording Back to Basics. Ralph Lawson. Huggy. Carl Finlow. Boat parties in Durham. Getting mangled with Orde & Stuart from Slam in Leeds in 95. A great label http://www.2020recordings.com/allproducts/singles/ I was listening to the Shielded E.P and The Fifth Edition today, releases 5 and 11 out of 230. Not a bad catalogue. Around 95/96 again. Thats all mainly for alex, Tooj, Parky and HF if anyone is wondering.
  22. Faze Action and Nuphonic Records Responsible for the name of the sub-genre 'nu-house' to describe the jazz/funk/soul house that sprung up after Rave. Nuphonic was a great label, based in London and again springing up around 95. Faze Action's In the Trees and Flim-Flam's Yellowsox have been rocking the apartment earlier today. The label developed into Tirk records who signed Fujiya & Miyagi and none other than Greg Wilson. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yMxKfFCvvG8
  23. Herbert Everyone knows him now but back in 1996 he was just starting out when he release 3 12's in a row of utterly startling quality. Its only when you delve into the character and the bizarre production processes that the whole thing becomes even more beautiful. The best £10 i ever spent was getting Herbert Phono 01, 02 and 03 in a triple pack. There's 9 tracks in total, you can get most of them on a later compilation album.
  24. All 1996 too, total vintage year.
  25. Paper Music Recordings The seminal British house label. A complex background but a lot of the driving force was from Miles Holloway and Elliot Eastwick who were the residents at Hard Times, a legendary house club. Elliot was a resident at the Hacienda in 1992 and then left to set up Hard Times and record as Salt City Orchestra. The success of their release on Tribal UK led them to set up paper records in 95. In 1996 they release Paper 1, a track called Downtime which is still one of my favourite house tracks. Scott and Scooby from Trax records in Newcastle released a couple of records on paper as New Phunk Theory but Elliot and Matt's tracks were the ones that made paper the best underground house label the UK produced (imo obviously). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gi3EL1Mcx8g If you like that, listen to the Salt City Orchestra stuff, its lush.
