  1. Philomena - thought Coogan was mis-cast. Funnily enough, given what was said in a thread on here, i think someone like Martin Freeman would have been better as Martin Sixsmith. Good story. Saving Mr Banks - Emma Thompson is absolutely mint, love her to bits. Surprisingly good film. The Great Gatsby - Never read the book so was happy to know the story properly. Produced by Jay-Z and you could tell. Again i think Di Caprio was the wrong choice, nothing really great about him. Another good story though. 12 Years a Slave - Fucking hell. Marley - A superb documentary about the life of Bob Marley. Highly recommend it. Made by Kevin Macdonald (Last King of Scotland), its lush on so many levels. The hilarity of the patois and the characters bu its also a great historical and political film whilst being really moving. Goes into the details of the violent politics and how he became the figurehead for social unity. There is an incredible scene when he returns from his exile in London to play the One Love Peace concert to bring about peace between the PNP and JLP, the competing political parties that have been at war in Kingston. Goes into his role in the Zimbabwe Liberation movement too, a concert he plays gets tear-gassed and whilst the crowd, band and crew all start spluttering and running for cover, he carries playing, not arsed. Yeh mon.
  2. Better review: http://www.theguardian.com/books/2014/apr/28/thomas-piketty-capital-surprise-bestseller
  3. http://m.newyorker.com/arts/critics/books/2014/03/31/140331crbo_books_cassidy?currentPage=all May be of interest to some, not got it yet but it's on my list.
  4. Cantona but it's a close call. Big lad. He didn't seem to know who I was, strangely enough.
  5. That's the one, The Big Short was excellent too. Same guy who wrote Moneyball.
  6. Little bit starstruck. Eric Cantona was staying at the same hotel as me last night and as it was a small place, saw him around a lot. He was super cool. Fortunately for everyone, i was sober so no embarrassing incidents.
  7. Michael Lewis's new book sounds excellent, been loads of reports on it. Basically exposing high frequency trading as a form of insider trading actually endorsed by the regulators.
  8. Ecstasy? Edit: bit tricky to get over the counter.
  9. I take it you don't have a pension then?
  10. 5 minutes in and the only thing outnumbering wank cliches from the commentators is mis-plced passes
  11. If you do the pre-approval online I think you need the address your staying at and possibly the flight number. Going to Chicago next month, looking forward to that.
  12. John used to bust the moves down at BJ's in Darlington on a friday night, he was a top dancer. Didnt even get in the top 3 in the 79 finals, them southerners were always a bit more light on their feet.
  13. John Davis was a massive inspiration to me.
  14. Won a disco dancing competition back in the 80s.
  15. Is this going to turn into 'the smartest giant in town'?
  16. Aye all them johnny come lately la di dah Chelsea fans don't deserve anything ahead of the fans who live in the second most expsensive city in the world whose club was formed in 1970. In comparison to PSG, Chelsea is a proper club.
  17. I think he was taking the piss mate.
  18. Some good tunes on that album, Weatherall is a big fan of his which tells you all you need to know.
  19. The two best moments of the match involved 2 players who were with us. The pass from Cabaye to Cavani which he should have buried and the goal from Ba. Enjoyed the match, thought it was another master class from Mourinho on a par with their win at City a couple of months back. I know they're all cunts at Chelsea but the nature of the spectacle is always in the back of my mind now: Russian oil money takes on Qatari oil money using predominantly South American and Italian talent to play under English and French flags. It's total fucking nonsense but I still enjoyed the game.
  20. Anyway, more chilled stuff for lunchtime.
  21. Think its 'In Summer' personally but Charlotte disagrees with us both with 'Let it go'. Hence why i am listening to it.
