had a great read of some of the threads in the Gold section the other day, any sense in starting one called the Mould section for the likes of this?

Agreed, definitely think there isn't as much difference between the Brasil and England first X1 as people make out. Their midifield isnt great apart from Kaka who's been off form. Luis Fabiano has looked class when I've seen him but Rooney's far better. They have a better keeper but the defence is about even on the whole. I reckon Argentina will do better than the Brasilians even with Maradona doing his best to muck it up.

The amount of Irish people who desperately want England (and France) to fail at this thing is annoying and incredibly petty. Also, people saying "England wont win the world cup" need to cop on too, sure Spain might have a better squad, Brazil and Argentina might have better individuals but it is still a very strong England team in most areas, in any case, the best team on paper often doesn't win the world cup. Honestly, I just hope the team who performs the best and cheats the least wins the thing.

We actually bought quite a lot of players of that calibre. You must have been asleep. idiot isn't presumably going to pursue this............. I think all he meant was that we DID used to buy players of that quality and that back then it was conceivable to do so.

I think that's the one, I remember Tomasson and some random bloke from Germany who never played for us in the league looking good in it, would have been 1997 IIRC

Seen them in (and win) that tournament I can't remember the name of that had Celtic, PSV and Derry, suppose it was in the late 90s, my main memory was Lionel Perez sitting near the bench being harassed by an endless stream of kids for an autograph. Think these were some of Beardsley's last games for us before leaving.

if Fabregas goes they'll go hell for leather to sign Gourcuff, Cole wouldn't be seen as any sort of replacement but would obviously be a great free transfer for anyone regardless of the big wages.

How about another former Blackburn manager, Mark Hughes? If I was a Liverpool fan I wouldn't say no.

This might be a load of crap but someone just told me the number of dead is higher than first thought (possibly as many as 12) and includes his mother.

http://www.guardian.co.uk/uk/2010/jun/02/g...dead-whitehaven Apparently four fatalities and many injured, according to twitter he's a taxi driver and started firing into a taxi rank. The police are urging people in the area to stay in doors as he's still on the loose in his car. Rumour has it his name is Derek Bird (52) and has had a number of personal tragedies lately or something to that affect. scary stuff

I reckon England could win or at least get to the final providing nothing crazy happens (or a penalty shoot out for that matter, there doesn't seem to be too many confident/competent takers in the squad). I reckon Brazil might be somewhat overrated to be honest and have a very tough group to begin with nevermind what comes afterwards. Argentina could do it in spite of the manager but should have brought Cambiasso. The thing with people saying there isn't a better team than spain is that the best team often doesn't win the world cup. I could horrifyingly see someone like France stumble there way into the final again, as an example, not saying it will happen though. Despite all this, I voted for Spain, just in case Triesman was right

The Yak's goal scoring record in the Premiership is quite good tbf. Although he seems to be one of those players that goes on a run and can't stop scoring, then he can't find the net for 20 games. one of the highest scoring foreigners in the history of the PL if I remember correctly, but he's had his injuries now and is probably only on the downward spiral to mediocrity, so we'll almost certainly sign him.

going to the worldcup though Not to do much going on that. Hart played well mind Friendlies count for precisely nothing though, I reckon they're going to get to the final, probably lose but who knows.

great actor not just for Blue Velvet/Easyrider etc but also for making many of the absolute turds he was in watchable, was pretty funny in Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2 IIRC also.

Will probably go to Birmingham, lots of scots there, none here, might seem simplistic but I reckon that'll do the trick.

Makes it about the third most modern thing in it. A friend of mine co-wrote the Irish entry but even he'd admit it's deliberately the most generic, tin whistle-playing, Titanic-evoking piece of lowest common denominator balladry. Well, he might not quite put it like that. Anyway, these are my two quiet little tips for tonight, if the people want a bit of guitar with their cheese: Which probably means we'll end up in Tbilisi next year or something. That's it in a nutshell, could have won the eurovision a few years ago with that but the Titanic-esque ballads don't seem to do as well these days. Azerbijan are the favorites are they not?

Absolutely despise the Irish entry, moreso than usual

same here, especially as France had the World Cup more recently than Italy, strange that they were even behind Turkey in the end, surely not still a backlash from the bribing scandals?
