Directors aren't important in Hollywood. Fuck Off man, Hollywood churns out some very good films by directors with their own stamp. Tarantino is overrated like the Beatles are. My point is that there is a paucity of auteurship in Hollywood and unlike upto the 70's the Dir has much less power and movies are basically producer or franchise (studio) driven. Directors aren't really important for Directing unless they have a/the franchise in tow. 90% of the time they are an afterthought (a safe pair of hands etc...) Soderbergh and Tarrantino are/were basically small budget/Independant directors, but both have crossed over in terms of accessible film language for a mass audience. Not an easy thing to do Lynch is the only true auteur working within/without Hollywood, but you know he gets a lot of his money from Europe when he does get money that is. I assume that was said tongue-in-cheek?

That's your opinion. I'm of the opinion that they act this way because they think Shilpa believes she's better than them. To be fair though, Shilpa has taken the piss out of Jades accent too, maybe not to the same extent and she didn't have anyone else joining in, but it was done nonetheless. As for the "eating with their hands", Jo didn't like the way Shilpa touches the food on other peoples plates which is a fair point imo.

I think she should be far more ashamed than Jade since she seems to have had the opportunity and support to get an education but was more interested in shoes. I think 'people' know what they are doing and they 'know' how they should behave, but choose to for whatever reason to carry on like these three. The race thing is difficult because sometimes it isn't a conscious choice, but often a generalised aggression and they can't admit to themselves that they 'just don't like people of a different colour or culture. In effect they aren't self-actualised enough to understand their own motivations (perhaps distracted as you say by shoes). But in 2007 I really don't have time for this. The SHOULD know better. So in 2007 you're not allowed to dislike someone of colour because if you do you're racist? I'm not advocating the way they appear to be ganging up on Shilpa, but I don't believe that Jade as acting the way she is because of the colour of Shilpas skin. She genuinely doesn't like the woman. I must say I (honestly) haven't been watching it but having heard that, you have to wonder how thick someone would have to be to 1) Hold a view like that and 2) Express it in front of a large TV audience. I don't recall anyone saying that. In last nights highlights they discovered that Shilpa was using the oven on the grill setting which was why the chicken was undercooked and they told her that's what it was. She just laughed about it.
