  1. Hats off to anyone working. Through luck, cunning and the kindness of others this is the fifth out of five Crimbos I've dodged since qualifying. A friend of a friend of mine works for sky news and he's worked at least three.
  2. Bastard, thought she'd snuffed it.
  3. Sorry for your losses 2J and Idioteque. My grandad died in September and this is the first festive period without him. Had a big traditional family event yesterday (Serb orthodox saint's day celebration) which was pretty weird and hard without him. The first one after my grandmother died four years ago was too, but as the years have gone by they've become another opportunity to remember them and another reason to celebrate as we think of celebrating with them, even if a few tears are shed. Hope you can treat Christmas in this way this year, or in the coming years if it's understandably a bit tough first go.
  4. More or less it. I did scarper to the shops and get her a cake and a card when she told us shed forgotten it was her birthday.
  5. The amount of fuckers here off until after New Years from now, are you at school?! Can't complain too much, was down to do long days Mon-Thurs next week but got a Muslim to do 25th and 26th, giving me those days off for the fifth year running since I qualified. Still doing Christmas Eve and 27th though. Then off from 29th until 14th Jan!
  6. Bradford Royal Infirmary was strangely flush with dwarves one December.. An ex of mine got to the bottom of it: after their last performance, the diminutive stars of Snow White went on the piss. One of them showed off his signature breakdancing move of spinning on his head, but fell over then couldn't get up again. Presuming him drunk, the other dwarves carrier him home to sleep it off. When he still couldn't move the next day, it became apparent that he'd fractured two cervical vertebrae in his neck.
  7. I find the notion that the whole thing is a great and worthy title a bit funny. It's a phone in poll run by a telly station. Of course it's nice to win it etc but the way people harp on about it your have thought Wiggins will value this as much as his TDF. God knows what the overseas winner thinks of it all. It's a nice show with the review if the year though and this year's would have been great, pity I couldn't watch it as I was on nights.
  8. I agree, I was responding to Pud who said it was the hospital's responsibility to arrange such a protocol. Regardless, it is not the fault of the hospital, the royal family or the DJs that the nurse took her life.
  9. I would say that that sort of setup is the responsibility of the patient and his/her family (in this case, Buckingham Palace). It does my wick in when we have patients on ICU with families who are all at war with each other and the ICU staff are supposed to ask as some sort if arbiter of it all and screen it all instead of actually doing their job. The palace should have arranged a protocol for how the other royals would contact Kate (that in all likelihood wouldn't incolve them speaking to anyone but each other over the phone) and for all we know they probably did and this nurse didn't follow it.
  10. hiding the kids was clearly the correct thing to do, and that teacher is right to be commended for it. I think America is fucked up too but using any angle of this story (especially one plas praiseworthy as this) as a stick to beat them with isn't on IMO.
  11. Exactly. International tournaments had seemed to be one of the last vestiges of tradition (well, up until they gave the WC to Qatar) but even they have sold their soul to the devil.
  12. If it's worth watching, watch it with us.
  13. You're probably right, it's just that the contact thing really bugs me so I'm glad to see someone speak out on it - especially as he fully admits he was guilty of it against Argentina. Often ex pros won't criticise players for a crime they committed for fear of being labelled a hypocrite.
  14. As much as he treated us with contempt, I think he's an okay pundit. Not afraid to criticise others of crimes he admits he was guilty of - namely diving - and tbf he's about the only pundit I've seen who rejects the 'contact = foul regardless of context' mantra that's crept into the media of late.
  15. Saver of patients lives & other doctors' skins and instructor of national club champions to be precise.
  16. Trading Places Muppets Christmas Carol Home Alone 1 & 2 Die Hard Not films per se but always used to love the animated versions of Raymond Briggs's The Snowman and Father Christmas.
  17. Alreet Gene. I see Fish has embroiled himself in another pissing contest. 'Banter' is a really rotten concept.
  18. They're still a bunch of deluded self righteous pricks, by en large, of course.
  19. I used think they did it to but I think you can probably forgive them for 'droning on' about it considering the recent revelations.
  20. As loath as I am to agree with Pacinofan, it doesn't take a genius to see why Liverpool fans don't like being called 'wallpushers' really does it? It's a bit different from 'bindippers'. If you'd used 'murderers' I don't think you would have really complained about being banned, and in terms of what they mean the phrases are virtually identical.
  21. Considering you've got an underscore where there should be a space in your username, maybe you should reign in the pedantry, you smug twat.
  22. Anaesthetists make jokes about surgeons, surgeons make jokes about physicians, physicians make jokes about A & E doctors, who make jokes about GPs. Doctors aren't really allowed to make jokes about nurses, but nurses make jokes about each other. When all's said and done we're all playing for the same team doing different things for different people so petty point scoring like this is pretty silly really.
