To be honest Happy Face, the man in your avatar and signature may have been a total failure at Spurs, but he has more than restored his reputation as a very good coach since then. Not saying he should be Newcastle manager obviously , but the way he's still a laughing stock in England really doesn't tell the whole story. He's had numerous offers to manage decent teams in Germany and Spain because of the job he's done at Basel.

I'm relieved it's not Redknapp, because it would have been a shambolic appointment. However, the news hasn't got me jumping for joy at all. If Redknapp was Ashley's no. 1 choice, I'm dreading to think who his no. 2 might be.

I don't know much about spanish football in truth but is/was Ramos in terms of level in spain probably more akin to Allardyce/Moyes/Redkapp? I don't know too much about Spanish football either, but I don't think so. He did win the UEFA Cup twice and had Sevilla challenging for the title/qualifying for the Champions League.

Anyone who thinks this is a good appointment and that it will go any other way than the previous three managers' reigns is deluded IMO. We will be back to square one soon.

As for Nugent, the fact that Redknapp spent £8m on him, gave him about two games and then decided he didn't like him after all paints that transfer in a rather bad light. Look at it this way: What would the reaction have been like if we had gone and made Redknapp manager after Roeder resigned in May? And then ask yourself, what has changed? We're not in a worse position than a year ago, far from it - we have a billionaire owner now.

I'm not going to be optimistic for the sake of it, what's the point? Nothing will change if Redknapp is appointed, nothing. After the usual honeymoon period that comes with a new manager we will be back to square one, and that's because Redknapp is just another mediocre journeyman manager. I think even Shepherd would have tried harder than that.

While the form table shows that Pompy have a shocking recent home record (as per .com) its interesting to see they are TOP of the away form table.
