  3. Third season in and I just won the Community Shield, Euro Super Cup, Club World Championship, League Cup, FA Cup and The Premiership. Getting beat by Chelsea in the quarters of the Champions League was the only thing from me getting a clean sweep. And that man Okaka keeps on scoring...
  4. A woman has been injured by a letter bomb which exploded at the main DVLA centre in South Wales, police say. The attack, which happened shortly before 0930 GMT, is the third of its kind on motoring-related companies in three consecutive days. Police said the latest blast happened in the post room of the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency in Swansea. An accountancy firm in Berkshire was targeted on Tuesday, and the central London offices of Capita on Monday. A South Wales Police spokeswoman said the woman had been injured in "a small letter-type explosion" at about 0923 GMT and had been taken to hospital. Her injuries were not thought to be life-threatening, she said. A cordon has been put in place around the scene, but police said the DVLA building and surrounding areas had not been evacuated so far. 'Worrying' On Tuesday a package exploded at the offices of an accountancy firm linked to Speed Check Services, the provider of digital speed cameras to the police. That followed a letter bomb attack the day before at the central London offices of Capita, which runs London's congestion charge system. Home Secretary John Reid described the incidents as "worrying". But he added: "It is important we allow police to get on with their investigation without undue speculation." Nigel Humphries, from the Association of British Drivers, told BBC Radio Five Live he was "appalled" by what appeared to be linked attacks. "In fact, it makes us feel a bit guilty that we haven't campaigned hard enough on the legitimate front against the things that we oppose, to do with criminalising and bullying motorists, and because of our failure to campaign hard enough, somebody's had to resort to this." Alun Cairns, Welsh Conservative Assembly Member for South Wales West, sent his "sympathy and best wishes" to the injured DVLA worker. He said he planned to set up meetings with the DVLA, police and staff to discuss "protecting personnel in the workplace". The DVLA maintains registers of drivers and vehicles and is responsible for road safety.
  5. Glenn Roeder hopes Oguchi Onyewu can bring the vocal factor back to the Newcastle United defence. The United States international has joined The Magpies from Standard Liege, initially on loan for the rest of the season. He made his debut in Saturday's 2-1 defeat at Fulham and his manager was impressed by his presence at centre-half. Roeder feels Newcastle have been lacking a loud stopper and believes Onyewu could provide the commanding influence the back-line has been missing. "I was captain at the club for five years and you cannot organise without talking," said the Magpies boss. "As players, we used to pull each other round the pitch and Oguchi can help us do that now. "His voice can be heard and I am looking forward to hearing more of it. He is an intelligent guy and what I like about him is that he talks a lot. "As a team, we are too quiet on the pitch. It is one factor we need to improve on and one factor I am looking at in regard to bringing in new players. "I want players who are vocal, who have a lot of personality and are nice and loud. "You need characters and talkers in the team because it is impossible to play the game of football without them."
  6. Yes...we SHOULD...in fact we should never have had to sign him. I think we just disagree about how big a fuck up the gung-ho Souness/Shepherd season was. I'm of the opinion that we're massively fucked...and Roeder is doing a low-key, honest John, fix-er upper job. We need to stay in the Premiership (obviously) and any European qualification/cup runs will be a bonus. We're not going to attract Mourinho or Big Phil Scolari because we don't have anything like a well oiled machine to run. Allardyce and O'Neill would be no better IMO. I do think Shepherd realises this (very belatedly) and is trying to steady the ship with a bloke who won't demand much and won't cost much. Another big ego at the club with the state it's in and a huge transfer budget we don't really have could sink us. Disagree on Allardyce. Whilst there will always be arguments on the style of football his teams play, he would do a better job through both his man management in getting the best out of players (luque?) and with what seems to be a worrying time for us financially he has a proven record of working on a budget and I am sure would have strengthened the team considerably in the transfer market.

  9. Yes, but your post makes sense....you want to watch that. To be honest I do not see it as a move that makes sense. I think we are in agreement that in the next transfer window we will be attempting to sign another striker with more of a physical prescence. That would then leave us with a pool of strikers of Owen, Martins, New striker, Ameobi and Dyer (?). Surely rather than pay wages to a player who isn't really good enough or needed, the money would be better spent on another area of the team?
  10. American duo George Gillett and Tom Hicks have reached an agreement to buy Liverpool in a deal thought to be worth £470m, BBC Sport understands. The pair announced their buy-out to the Stock Exchange on Tuesday. Liverpool chairman David Moores, who will become an honorary life president, said: "This is a great step forward, its shareholders and its fans." The club have called a news conference at 1400 GMT to announce the details of the takeover.
  11. I reckon he's a fluffer. Or a merkin-fitter. Sounds like a flight attendant from his descriptions. That would make sense. Berb, any comment? Would explain his subscription to Flight magazine as well. Class, I think he's been busted actually. A trolley dolly...
  12. GLENN Roeder has admitted he feels "angry" at losing Stephen Carr to an injury sustained on international duty. Not for the first time, Newcastle United have seen a player get hurt while away representing his country. Carr has returned to Tyneside after being withdrawn from Ireland's squad to face San Marino in a Euro 2008 qualifier after picking up a thigh injury in training yesterday and could now face several weeks on the sidelines. Record signing Michael Owen, of course, has missed all of this term so far after suffering a serious knee injury while on World Cup duty with England last season, while Steven Taylor missed a big chunk of last term with a shoulder problem picked up while with the U21s. Now Toon boss Roeder can only hope the rest of his international brigade come through the midweek matches unscathed. He said: "Newcastle United have been punished terribly with injuries due to international football. "We cannot put a world-class striker like Michael Owen on our teamsheet because of his World Cup injury. Steven Taylor returned last season from Under-21 duty and had to have his shoulder practically sewn back on. "And now we have lost Stephen Carr for up to a month with a thigh injury. We have been wounded this season. "Even one of our fringe players, Alan O'Brien, has gone away three times and twice he has returned injured." The loss of Carr is particularly hard to take for Roeder, having just seen the experienced defender return from a lengthy absence with a foot injury. He added: "We have just worked patiently with Stephen for three months, and after three games back for us he is flying home on the plane after one session with the Republic of Ireland before their Euro game with San Marino. "The club doctor Roddy McDonald actually told me to sit down and take a deep breath when he told me that Stephen had got injured. It made me so angry and I'm still angry." Many of United's international brigade are representing their respective countries in friendly games this week, and it is those matches that club managers, Roeder included, can sometimes be unhappy with. He continued: "When I was working as an England staff member we had numerous disagreements in the club versus country row. Back then I thought that the club managers were being unfair to their country. "But now I know exactly what they mean. I have gone 100% the other way. It is unfair. "If players get injured at Newcastle, in training or in a match, I don't have a problem with that. I haven't moaned once about our injury list because they have come while players have been on club duty. I have taken it on the chin. "But when a player gets sent back after international duty injured, we have to pick up the pieces. We are trying to push up the Premiership table in our game against Liverpool on Saturday, but already that is with 10 injuries. "There is too much money involved in the Premiership now and too much at stake to lose players due to international friendlies. "For five months we have battled with injuries and now after finally getting down to single figures we are back up to 10 because of Stephen's thigh injury. "I am sure the Newcastle fans agree with me when I say that our last 12 games inthe Premiership are more important than an England friendly with Spain."
  13. Two men have received minor injuries in a "small explosion" at a company in Wokingham, Berkshire. Thames Valley Police were called to Oaklands Business Centre just after 0900 GMT after reports that an item of mail had ignited. The building was evacuated and a cordon has been set up around the site. Police said they were aware of a similar incident in central London on Monday but it was too soon to speculate on any possible connection. South Central Ambulance Trust said two men, aged in their 30s, had been treated for minor injuries and were not being taken to hospital. Fourteen people were evacuated from the building. On Monday, a woman received minor injuries in another "small" explosion at an office building at the Capita building in Victoria Street, Victoria, in central London.
  14. I wouldn't even give him another year tbh. He's nowhere near good enough and although he'll come in and graft and that, I'll be pretty disappointed if we start next season with Sibierski even on the bench. Imagine how much slower he'll be in a year or two's time too. Does he even graft that much? Aye there has been occasions hes came back into our own half and stuck a foot in however for me he hits the floor with the slightest knock all to often.
  15. You don't seem to have a clue what you or anybody else is talking about ffs. Too many spliffs tbh..
  16. Not for the sake of it, but certainly there have been a number of poor aquisitions, and it doesn't seem to have improved the squad any, despite greater depth. But he can also see some the weak links in his team like Davenport, let him go to West Ham and signed a replacement. Whilst we are left with Bramble and are even considering giving him a new contract..
  17. If Kings not playing they look shite in defence, such a shame hes out for upto 8 weeks...
  18. It was reported that he turned up for training smoking and had a poor attitude..
