  1. It's a hassle like. No public transport, so you're forced to drive, probably with a hangover, find somewhere to park, not drink, and drive back again. Much easier to watch it on the telly. Then there's work the next day. Work on the 2nd of January..
  2. I can see Larsson scoring the winner on his debut in it..
  3. A former England footballer has been jailed after he drunkenly threatened a bouncer while serving a suspended sentence for another assault. Gary Charles, 36, of Stretton, near Alfreton, Derbyshire, admitted a public order offence by threatening a doorman with an imaginary knife. He was jailed for 12-months at Derby Crown Court. The former Nottingham Forest player had been given a suspended sentence for an assault on a woman in 2005. Derby Crown Court was told Charles had previously been found guilty of assault occasioning actual bodily harm after a three-day trial in July. The court had heard how he attacked a woman after she joked he was not good enough to play for Manchester United. He repeatedly kicked her in the face and head in the 2005 assault. Charles had been warned he would go to prison if he committed another similar offence, or failed to carry out 100 hours of community work. In sentencing, Judge Andrew Hamilton said: "There really does come a time when the police and everyone else have to have a rest from Gary Charles. "I hope it knocks some sense into his head." In mitigation, Hal Ewing, defending, said his client had made progress in battling his alcohol addiction, despite this latest incident. "He's an alcoholic and has been for many years. "To get himself alcohol-free will be a real struggle for Mr Charles. However, he has made great strides towards doing that." Charlies played for Derby, Nottingham Forest and Aston Villa and retired in 2002.

  10. Villarreal have decided not to continue their interest in out of favour Newcastle striker Albert Luque. The striker has failed to hold down a first-team place in Glenn Roeder's side and has been linked with a move away from St James' Park in the January transfer window. The director of sport at Villarreal, Jose Manuel Llaneza however insists the club will not be signing either Luque or Salva Ballesta despite their need for attacking options. Llaneza said: "We are looking for attacking options and both Luque and Ballesta were considered. However our club has a strict budget that we cannot go over." The Spanish club will instead look to their youth system to bring through the strikers that are so desperately needed. "The manager Manuel Pellegrini has demanded that reinforcements be brought in to help the attacking line," he added. "But we have decided to reject these plans and instead look to our youth team to solve the problem."
  11. Glenn Roeder faces going to reigning champions Chelsea without a recognised right-back after an injury to Nolberto Solano. The Peruvian has been a revelation as an emergency full-back in the absence of Stephen Carr, but he limped off in the second half of Saturday's victory at Blackburn Rovers with a groin strain and is unlikely to figure either at Stamford Bridge or in the home game against Watford next weekend. Carr is not expected back for at least another week, so Roeder must decide whether to play James Milner there as he did when Solano first went off, or hand 19-year-old Paul Huntington his first start for the club after the youngster came on and did well in the closing stages of Saturday's victory. Both Peter Ramage and Steven Taylor were given their first-team debuts at full-back and the young central defensive pair earned praise from Roeder after the weekend win. "We got off to the worst possible start in the second half as Blackburn went for it," said Roeder, whose side were penned back for long spells after Morten Gamst Pedersen had made it 2-1 just after half time. "I thought our two centre-halves stood up to the challenge very well. Hopefully, over the next few weeks they're going to get better. They'll have the chance because Titus (Bramble) is out for a few weeks and so is Craig Moore. I'll be looking for them to build on that performance today because I was pleased with them. It needed strong defending from good deliveries into the box." With six points from their last two league games, Newcastle can travel with confidence to Chelsea on Wednesday, although Roeder's squad has been stretched further as a result of the injuries to Solano, Emre and Antoine Sibierski. None are thought to be too serious, although all three are a doubt for Wednesday's visit to west London. Roeder said: "We've lost one in 12 and confidence is high. There's nothing better for confidence than winning and when you're winning, it makes my job easier. "Solano feels he's hurt his groin. I think we can definitely say he will be out next week. "Emre, we'll wait and see. Sibierski, we're hoping that might just have been tiredness and cramp. If too many more drop out, we'll be going to Chelsea with the youth team."
  12. Happy Birthday Sned, Holden McGroin, Cats grandma and Harley..
  13. Am I the only one puzzled as to why he has a picture of Isegrim as his avatar??
  14. Newcastle are planning an audacious bid to steal Jonathan Woodgate from under the noses of Middlesbrough next summer. Former United defender Woodgate is on a year-long loan at Boro from Real Madrid, with the two clubs having agreed on a fee - believed to be £5 million - to make the deal permanent at the end of the season. But sources in Madrid have revealed that Newcastle have made it known they will be willing to match that price if Woodgate stays largely injury-free for the next five months. And the Magpies believe that a fit Woodgate would be reluctant to commit his future to Boro unless the club's league position dramatically improves. Newcastle sold Woodgate to Madrid for £13.4 million in August 2004 amid concerns over his long-term fitness. The 26-year-old has been sidelined during much of the interim, but his early impact at Boro has impressed both England coach Steve McClaren and United boss Glenn Roeder. Meanwhile, Villarreal's move for United striker Albert Luque rests on whether they can agree a deal for their top attacking target, Malaga's Salva Ballesta. Real Betis are ready to step in if Villarreal snub Luque, with Valencia having also expressed an interest.
  15. To be fair I don't even think he played 20 games in total..
  16. Steven Pressley's Hearts career is over the club have announced following the team's 4-1 victory over Motherwell. Club captain Pressley - who had been at Tynecastle since 1998 - had spoken of 'unrest' inside the dressing room at an October media conference. "I have enjoyed my time at Tynecastle enormously and will be sad to leave," Pressley told the Hearts website. "Particularly, I would like to thank the fans for their support during my time at the club."
