1. 5th best team in country, signs England internationals etc etc 138941 thats what matters 138963 So much like you also state what players do away from the football pitch is irrelavant you also think the constant bad PR that Shepherd brings to the club does not affect the running of the club? 138969 No. Are you saying it will effect the season ticket returns or the sale of merchandise ? 138971 No as you and I both know we will continue to purchase them however that is not the be all and end all of the club generating funds. Sponsorship is a major part of the "business" these days and any bad publicity is ultimately bad for Newcastle in their future negotiations of any such deals etc

6. Newcastle chairman Freddy Shepherd insists United have already signed Alan Shearer's replacement: Michael Owen. And with Shepherd adamant Owen is staying at St James's Park, new manager Glenn Roeder has set the England star a 25-goal target next season. But Roeder believes Owen may REFUSE to inherit the fabled Newcastle No 9 shirt. Despite Owen's injury woes and constant speculation over his future during his maiden campaign on Tyneside, Shepherd has blasted talk of parting with his £17 million man this summer. And while Roeder wants to bring in two new strikers to cover the loss of Shearer, he is excited at the prospect of Owen leading his front-line. "He's here next season," Shepherd said of Owen (right). "He's a huge part of this team. "We paid a club record fee for him and he was brought here to score goals. He was bought to play alongside Alan Shearer and eventually replace Alan. "We didn't pay that kind of money to bring in a bit-part player. He's been injured but he'll certainly be playing a big part in this team." Roeder said: "The week before Michael played those 30 minutes at Birmingham (in Newcastle's penultimate game of the season), he had a great week in training. "What he reminded me of was the difference between a Premiership striker and a world-class striker, because the goals he scored that week were special. "That's why I am so looking forward to working with him again next season." But while Owen is set to be offered the chance to become United's next No 9, Roeder warned: "Some players have superstitions. "He scored seven in 10 games in the No 10 shirt, so he probably feels that might be the shirt he's going to score 25 goals in next season."
7. Newcastle have proposed a swap deal to Portsmouth which would see Matt Taylor move to Tyneside in exchange for Amdy Faye. But Taylor himself has scuppered United's hopes by insisting he wants to stay at Fratton Park. United are in need of a quality left-sided defender, while Portsmouth are keen to re-sign midfielder Faye just 17 months after selling him. But Taylor's starring role in Pompey's Premiership survival battle under Harry Redknapp has convinced him his future lies on the South coast. Redknapp is still keen on Faye, however, and a straight cash deal for the Senegalese may be agreed within the next few weeks.
8. Whilst I am certainly not the furthest away having a season ticket and living in a town next to Loch Lomond, I certainly clock up some mileage travelling up and down to each game.
9. I thought we only actually paid about 3.5 and the rest of the supposed 5 or 5.5 fee that was being banded about included future appearances, England appearances etc I do not htink we have made much of a loss on him, whether we may lose out on a good player remains to be seen.
10. I agree with both Alex and SLP. I know Matt has stated a few times how he has a list of about 10 players he would play up front before Shola, but the fact is like Alex has said Shola has offered us more up front than Luque and Chopra this season and with Owen having being out injured, Shola was probably our best option.
11. Fucking shocking decision that the advantage was not given.
12. NEWCASTLE United Chairman Freddy Shepherd has responded to further comments made by League Managers' Association chief John Barnwell following the Magpies' appointment of Glenn Roeder as manager. When the former skipper was unveiled at a St. James' Park press conference on Tuesday, Mr Shepherd told the assembled media that he was unhappy with the stance adopted by Mr Barnwell and the LMA , saying he couldn't believe a union would try to stop someone taking a job. Mr Barnwell responded on Wednesday, saying: "He (Mr Shepherd) said he was surprised that a union were keeping men out of work. Well, Freddy we're not a union, we're an association - The League Managers' Association." That prompted Mr Shepherd to retort, telling nufc.co.uk: "There should be no misunderstanding between myself and John, after all we come from the same working class area of Newcastle so nothing should be lost in translation! "I'd ask John to look up the word union in the Oxford English Dictionary - one of the definitions is 'a club, society, or association formed by people with a common interest or purpose'. "Now if that isn't a definition of the LMA, then what is? "I've also noted John's comments about dismissals and termination of manager's contracts - but as John well knows, any manager who has left St. James' Park has left with every penny they have been entitled to. "I've made it clear that I'm disappointed in the stance adopted by John but I'd ask him to take these latest comments in the spirit they are intended."

14. I ordered mine from Dialaphone and have recieved my Xbox 360 no problem. Have also used mobileshop.com and e2save (who are actually Carphone Warehouse) in the past again with no problems. Only thing to wtach for is sending the casbback forms back at the right dates as they do not pay out if you miss the cut offs. All in all I have used a few of them over the years and yet to have a problem with any.
15. Why do people keep saying we should Upson when he is out injured and could be for as long as 9 months?
16. Roberto Carlos has confirmed that Chelsea are attempting to prise him away from Real Madrid. Reports in Spain on Monday claimed The Blues were launching an offensive to try and land the full back, and the Brazilian concedes there has been contact. Jose Mourinho is looking to revamp the squad that claimed a second successive Premiership title this season and left back has been one of the positions that has given him persistent headaches. Spaniard Asier Del Horno has failed to truly convince since his arrival last summer while Wayne Bridge has been sidelined by serious injury. At 33, Carlos is hardly the long-term solution to Mourinho's problem, but the Portuguese coach clearly believes he will prove a top-quality performer for a couple of seasons at least. Spanish radio station Onda Cero claim agreement on a two-year deal is now almost total and that Chelsea are just awaiting the green light from Real. Carlos himself is being slightly more cautious, but admits the interest from The Blues is very real. "Nothing has been signed, although they (Real) have told me that Chelsea want me," he told Marca. "I have told them that they have to speak to Real Madrid as there is a an election period, and I have a contract. "I don't know what will happen in the elections and need to know if the new president and coach will want me. "It's true there is something there with Chelsea and if it becomes concrete then it would be very sad for me to leave Madrid after all these years."
17. Thanks everyone and well done Bridget and good luck Rikko I am going to work for West Dunbartonshire CVS (Community and Volunteering Services). 18. ..and only ten minutes after I had left it, I got a phonecall offering me the position. Not bad considering I only finished Uni on Friday. Finally back to working in the real world again, I cannot wait.
19. A good run against average opposition has far from convinced me that the centre halfs are anywhere near good enough to take into next season. If we are left to work with what is there I will be worried about next season.
20. Defending is not all about our centre halfs and keeper keeping the ball out of the back of the net. By defending all over the park and winning the ball in "defending" how do you think we get possession and build our attacks from. Yes there is no doubt that Boumsong etc would still drop their clangers at times but by winning the ball anywhere on the park and retaining possession would you not agree would put our defenders under less pressure? You talk of our previous campaigns with Bellamy having had nothing to do with defending and that of scoring one more goal than the opposition. How do you think we get possession of the ball, by players closing down and tackling all over the park, now I am obviously not saying Bellamy done all this himself but like has been stated the urgency of his play, helped the team as a whole have a greater urgency and yes defend better as a team, because retaining possession of the ball means the other team cannot score as many as they do not have it whilst we have more opportunities to score and therefore win matches. We are also not saying that teams never got out their half, however I do not believe anyone who watches the matches cannot see the difference in the team defending as a whole with the likes of Bellamy chasing things down and in turn our midfield pushing up and having Shola and Shearer inviting the opposition onto us.
