So Gemmill you reckon someone who, with players of Englands class let alone have the numptys we are fielding, is clueless when it comes to tactics and formations and isn`t much of a motivator in your own words.. is the right man for this club? 85376 Correct, you sad bastard. Listen the bloke has wound me up in the past as England coach, but he gets results, which above all, is what we need. And given the other people on the shortlist, I'd be very happy to have him at NUFC. 85407 Wasnt hard to find, i remember all the Sven bashing that goes on after the majority of England games... I can see why you want him though, as he certainly follows the tradition of your other favourite manager Mr Souness in being clueless about tactics and having terrible motivational skills...

It depends on his mood really, Cheyne's a surf dude, Blaydon's a candi-raver (?) who used to write for the Chronicle despite never leaving Sydney, Adidas is a staunch fan of Churchill (to fool Li3nZ into thinking it wasn't him ). He was rumoured to have registered as Lord_Lucan but that was never proved. 83883 He must have been Blaydon when filling in his blog on msn..

He was a fuckin nutter tbh...

Correct. We all know it wouldn`t shift the fat man, but he would bottle it and sack Souness straight away...

WITH Tyneside in a state of frenzy, Newcastle United in the throes of crisis and Graeme Souness widely reported to be on the verge of dismissal, the manager was duly summoned to St James’ Park yesterday afternoon. After a ten-minute conversation with his chairman, Souness emerged still in his position and, contrary to all expectations, claiming to possess the full backing of Freddy Shepherd. In the circumstances, it was a bizarre development. Newcastle fans had called for Souness to depart in the aftermath of the 1-0 defeat at home to Blackburn Rovers on Saturday and while given his outright refusal to resign, the club’s difficult financial position and Shepherd’s reluctance to spend £5 million on compensating Souness’s coaching staff, the matter was never that straightforward, but events seemed to be coming to a head. Souness’s comments would appear to contradict that, although Shepherd is yet to make any positive public statement regarding his employee. “I popped into the stadium for a cup of coffee and a brief chat with the chairman,” Souness said. “It was all very amicable. We spoke about the match on Saturday and he told me he was supportive of me and behind me. It was all very positive and upbeat. I’m absolutely fine.” With a tricky FA Cup tie away to Cheltenham Town to prepare for — defeat at Whaddon Road would surely bring an end to a traumatic 16-month tenure at Newcastle — Souness, in tandem with Dean Saunders, his first-team coach, attended last night’s reserve-team fixture against Everton. Media outlets close to Shepherd have not held back from criticising Souness and the Scot’s fractured relationship with the Evening Chronicle has had obvious political connotations. With pressure mounting after a sequence of two wins in ten league matches, television cameras yesterday focused on the ground and when Souness stepped from his car at 4.20pm, a resolution felt imminent. Little definitive followed and the backdrop may be of a stand-off between Shepherd and Souness. If the latter is not prepared to offer his resignation under any circumstance — which he is not — and Shepherd refuses to dismiss him, the pair may limp on temporarily in an uneasy truce, although the suggestion that Sam Allardyce is out of the running for the succession at Newcastle is also intriguing. A fortnight ago, Allardyce, the Bolton Wanderers manager, was the favourite to replace Souness, but the pursuit, for unknown reasons, has now gone cool. There are a lack of available alternatives and while in Glenn Roeder and Peter Beardsley, Shepherd employs potential candidates for caretakers, the appeal of immediate change is dubious. No new appointment would have funds to spend and with the first-team squad riven by injury, an impact could only be made in terms of self-confidence and morale. It may not be enough. Yet with supporters close to mutiny after months of mediocre results and constant excuses, the present situation remains intolerable. Until Shepherd speaks — or acts — yesterday was only a temporary stay of execution.

Niall Hickman from the Express, said on Talksport he doubts Souness will still be here tomorrow.

Shearer was one of many who looked as if they didnt give a fuck on Saturday. The occasion near the end where Blackburn were kicking the arse out of making a substitution and Seamus charged out his goal screaming at the ref to make them get a move on, the majority of the team were stood hands on hips with their heads down, Shearer having being one of them. Great encouragement to the rest of the team from the captain when a point was still there for the taking...

I see Sky have changed the length of time to 15 minutes now and what they are claiming was said.. "I remain the Newcastle United manager, everyone is upbeat..etc" Why did he get summoned for a 5-15 min meeting. I think hes been asked to resign and has refused to, hence the reason he has stated "I remain the manager"..
-
Do you really think it will happen though? St James Park is like a library these days..
-
..at St James Park. SSN latest from St James Park. Souness and his staff were just in a 5 minute meeting with Shepheard. Since coming out Souness has claimed everything is fine and the club remain in an upbeat mood. Looks like we are stuck with the fucker!

By Alan Oliver, The Evening Chronicle Graeme Souness was believed to be on his way to St James' Park today for urgent talks about his future after being summoned by Freddy Shepherd. The United boss faced the wrath of angry Toon fans after the dismal 1-0 home defeat by his former club Blackburn. And Shepherd may feel he is entitled to ask Souness to resign from the post he took up 16 months ago. United will have to cough up compensation if the Scot was to walk away, but it remained unclear whether Souness would be sacked if he adopts his recent stance of refusing to walk out on Newcastle. But the question on the lips of every Newcastle United supporter today must be - how can Souness survive? Saturday's demonstration by the supporters was the worst I have ever seen against a manager of Newcastle United. Surely you have got to say "enough is enough" when mounted police are standing by at a football club because the fans are demonstrating. The parallels will be made with the "sack the board" demonstrations and the view among the pundits was that Saturday just fell short of those. Indeed, the media strained to hear Souness in his Press conference as the fans continued to chant for his head. If Souness felt humiliated or embarrassed he did not show it. What we did hear was Souness mention his family. Did Souness allow his family to watch Sky Sports News on Saturday night ? Or read the back page headlines in yesterday's newspapers? If the answer to either of those questions is "no" then he should go for the sake of his own family and for his own dignity. Obviously there are other considerations. The talk is that it will cost United £3m if they sack Souness. And another £2m for his coaching staff. But how much would it cost United if they were relegated? And just where was Souness and his coaching staff during Saturday's defeat? Stuck in their dug-out while Mark Hughes patrolled the touchline like a hungry tiger. I cannot recall Newcastle United ever having a manager who was so unpopular with the fans. Kenny Dalglish and Ruud Gullit were unpopular even though they took the club to an FA Cup final at Wembley. But they never got what Souness got on Saturday night. One fan, who will have paid £500 for his season ticket and for the honour of watching his beloved Newcastle United, called Souness a "clown" on Sky Sports News. What kind of message does that send out to the rest of football? The rest of the country will be able to watch Newcastle United for themselves in Saturday's FA Cup fourth-round tie at Cheltenham. The very fact that the BBC are beaming the game out live is an indictment of United's current standing. The Beeb obviously feel that, even though it is a Premiership team which has had £50m spent on it since Souness arrived playing against what is effectively an old fourth Division side, an upset is on the cards. And I don't mean a United victory. Obviously, United have far better players and should win on Saturday, but in John Ward, Cheltenham have a manager who has a good idea of tactics and he will have a game plan. Which is more than can be said about Newcastle this term. In the time Souness has been at St James' Park, United have only won 16 of the 55 Premiership matches they have played. This season they have failed to score in nine of their 12 away league matches. Only Portsmouth have lost more away games in the Premiership. Throw in the fact that, under Souness, United have played the worst football since his pal Kenny Dalglish was at St James' Park then it's easy to see why the fans are angry.
