1. In fairness, whilst i get your point about the money spent, in your own words you are claiming that when he arrived he has 3 centre halfs at his disposal in Bramble, Hughes and OB. But whilst we have yet to see the man in a Toon shirt (and i hope it remains that way) he has signed Craig Moore and Boumsong to add to Bramble. There may be an argument as to the abilities of those at our disposal and whether they are up to the job or not which i think we more or less all agree on however there is no shortfall in numbers in the centre half position since Souness took over. 66460 I take your point, I had Moore in mind but didn't think he was even worth mentioning ........ I'm just frustrated and sick to the back teeth of bloody Souness now
2. judging him when everyone is fit has never been in the equation, a club with the top 5 team, and players he took over and the money he has spent has no excuse whatsoever. No one gets their full team out all the time. The resources he has available at Newcastle put him well above this type of talk, the position we are in in the premiership, considering all these advantages he has, is shameful, and the performances are too.
3. No I'm not, I'm highlighting the fact that the cops told him to stop, and he didn't. If you do that you are stepping over the line by taking no heed of the warning. The natural assumption is you are dangerous, the next step being you prove you are dangerous. It is that fast, you don't get second chances from someone who is armed Having had a policewoman shot only a few weeks ago, this should really be still quite vivid to people.
4. Far fetched case which could only end up with a slackening of the gun laws and more protection for criminals and murderers. Simple fact is, in this case, Rob is talking bollocks, GF is absolutely spot on, if you are daft enough to question the police and raise something that looks like a gun, or could possibly be one. This is the middle ground you mention. No defence I'm afraid. I find it particularly interesting as to why he and others think the police are trigger happy mobsters, seeing as he didn't reply to my previous post.
5. like the poor sod shot for carrying a chair leg? HE KNEW he had a chair leg - the coppers thought it "might" be a gun he's dead - they're alive and drawing their pensions 66454 complete bollocks
6. Another self inflicted problem by Souness though. He arrived at the club with Bramble, Hughes and O'Brien [who had got us into the Champions League and performed quite well for the part as Woodgate also played nowhere near 100% of games] He then spent 8m on Boumsong. then proceeded to offload O'Brien and Hughes. Not beyond the realms of logic to have told his chairman that in his professional opinion Boumsong was not worth 8m quid and use a few million quid to replace O'Brien and keep Hughes. So - once again, any shortfall in squad numbers is down to him.
7. Free Live, best CD ever. I have downloaded a few others mate, including a Live in Stockholm [good quality] Listening to Big Country live in Berlin at the mo
8. fact of life that there will sometimes be innocent bystanders, its a harsh world. However, this is not an excuse for you and others to paint the police as being trigger happy mobsters, no copper would do anything other than take such responsibility with the respect they ought to, they have a difficult enough job putting their own lives on the line in these situations without the pc mob making it more difficult for them to make a split second life or death decision.
9. errr...how many games has Luque played ? And Owen ? And a new contract for model professional ? How much money for all of that ? Aye, well done Souness ....... 66231 I'll set em up, you knock em down On a more serious note though, I think Bellamy's injury record, and his percieved attitude did more to depress his transfer fee than the oft quoted Souness is a twat theory. 66335 well that was easy meat Glad you said "percieved" attitude though [as most of football knows what Souness is like] And I like the "souness is a twat " bit as well
10. who says it's his own money ? See the point about other clubs being run nowhere near as well as ours, transfer wise. yes and no. It is his job, it's also his job to look after the finance of the club. The only manager he has appointed who the masses were against, at the time, is Souness. The vast majority were happy with Dalglish and Gullit. The only propaganda being peddled so far as I can see is by those who simply change their mind rather than admit they got it just as wrong as Shepherd. You can't say he is a c**t for appointing a manager that you were happy with him for appointing. And - he ISN'T the one who makes these final decisions anyway, beccause he ISN'T the majority shareholder, the chairman of such a company only carries out the decision of the board as a whole. 66200 Never wanted Souness, actually never met anyone who did, the only person i've ever even heard of who wanted Souness was Freddie Shepherd, the chairman you back and therefore, according to your own criteria, you back all his decisions, including the hiring and continuing employment of Souness. As an after thought, can you actually find any quotes from anyone poster on here who wanted Souness as manager? 66255 Forgive me for daring to reply to a post that wasn't made to me. Why are you suggesting that backing FS means a person is automatically backing Souness? What is the difference between this and the likes of Craig, who mentions daily that someone can support the decision to get rid of Bellamy, yet still not rate Souness and want him out too? Moving on with this line of double standards, assuming you rate hightly the likes of Owen, Luque, Parker and Emre, you must agree with those signings, sanctioned by FS, in which case you must support FS also. Or will you at this point conveniently agree that FS doesn't actually sanction anything, it's done by the entire board? 66270 Whassup? I'm happy to debate with anyone. Leazes' is banging on that if we support some of Souness' decisions then you have to back all of them, so i'm drawing a parallel with regards to Shepherd, whom he loves 66285 No, not quite. I'm banging on that if you back Souness you must be happy with what he has done to the team so far, and see a good future. The alternative is to sack him if you aren't. I'm also banging on that Shepherd, in spite of appointing fuckwit, is still one of the top chairman, on the basis he backs his managers, all of whom have a winning track record, with the cash and the freedom to spend. This is what a good chairman does. It's faily simple to go through the chairman of the top 20 clubs or so in the country and name the ones who have backed their managers more than Fred. Not too many. Also, we can't sack Shepherd, but we can sack fuckwit. I remember you lot back in August slagging off Shepherd, then he gave fuckwit the cash to buy Owen and Luque, and he was the bees knees. Make your mind up man.

Again, if you were happy with it at the time, its pretty rich of you to call him stupid for it
12. Strange, I would have thought that appointing managers, and buying players too if you like, was slightly dependent on their track record .... Unless you think we should just go and appoint the first conference standard manager that comes along, like we did with Souness
13. As I have stated elsewhere, sticking your hand in your pocket doesn't automatically make you a good chairman. From a financial point of view, Shepherd is a top-class chairman. He provides funds yet ensures that the club maintains a decent financial state. From a footballing point of view (i.e. resource management) I think he's absolutely hopeless! 66085 Which is what I said earlier on. So what are you arguing about or is it just something you feel you have to do? 66221 HTL, why do you jump into the middle of a discussion I'm having with someone else and think I'm responding to points you've made? Or is it something you feel you have to do? 66236 Well, I've got to go back to work, but it seems to me that quite a lot of others are as well..... No one is disputing Shepherds lack of football knowledge, but it still seems to me that people just use hindsight to knock Shepherd, when they would have made the same mistakes in appointing his managers, and a couple of straight answers wouldn't go amiss here
14. errr...how many games has Luque played ? And Owen ? And a new contract for model professional ? How much money for all of that ? Aye, well done Souness .......
15. What decisions ? Are you on about Dalglish and Gullit ? If so, did you agree with them at the time. It would be canny if someone would answer this, as everyone seems to be giving the impression they knew at the time they were crap choices. I mean, I think they were the wrong choice too, now, but at the time I didn't think Dalglish was anyway, so how can I criticise the board/Shepherd when I agreed with them ? I agree, but my point always has been, while he isn't the best, he is still better than most, and if you ask fans of other clubs a hell of a lot of them would swap their chairman for ours Souness could be the worst we've had. Even the others who have been shit, may have done better than Souness with the money he's had. Arguably of course ! I wouldn't be against Shepherd being replaced, but we could very easily end up with worse. On the other hand, we could hardly do worse than Souness.
16. who says it's his own money ? See the point about other clubs being run nowhere near as well as ours, transfer wise. yes and no. 17. Leazes, you haven't commented on Shepherd's total support for Souness in the exit of Craig Bellamy from the club. What's your view on that? 66083 It's the same answer Craig, he as a boss has backed his manager, I thought that was clear. However it isn't what I would have done. You do see my point about previous chairman, and the point about Ellis types don't you ?
18. It goes without saying that I totally agree that Shepherd is making another mistake by not getting rid of fuckwit, and he needs to get the next appointment right or he himself will be under severe pressure, and rightly so. One thing is for certain though, he will back him, more than everyone bar 2 or 3 clubs, what more can you ask of him ? If Shepherd goes and we end up with a Doug Ellis/Bob Murray moneyhoarder type of chairman, we;ll have a lot more to moan about than this.
19. As people continually side step mine .... I said it earlier. Shepherd is a top chairman, he's made a mistake with Souness but that doesn't change the fact that he's a top chairman. He has appointed his manager and backed him. I don't agree with his actions, but he is doing what a chairman should do, back him or sack him, that makes him a good boss. Those of you who critcise him for appointing managers who you would have done yourself are pretty fickle and have short memories. He has done what he thought was right for the club. See my earlier points about other clubs and other managers, it is totally relevant because you can only say Shepherd is crap by pointing at dozens, or more, that are better than him. But you can't. In Souness case though, HE, as a manager is judged on results, and I for one would never have let him anywhere near SJP. Shepherds mistake, but at least I and others were astute enough to say this from the start rather than blindly back him, if others had felt like we did we just might have got rid of the useless idiot earlier. Also Craig, you remember McKeag etc, or you seem to do, you are aware just how shit a chairman can really be, so why don't you at least appreciate the fact Shepherd has tried to give his managers all the financial clout he can ?
20. Agreed [with all the bold bits especially] Unfortunately there are people who have no idea of how law and order works, because they think people who are warped in the head will be cured by love and understanding, then say these same people need medical and psychological care to "sort out their mental problems". Whatever. Simple fact is, if you are a danger to the public, then you are denied the right to normal public life. Don't expect Rob W to say anything other than "I've seen everything there is to see and I can assure you that if you treat these terrorists with kid gloves their human instinct will kick in and they will see the error of their ways ......... Becoming normal citizens, getting about their daily lives
