1. they are both true figures. Unless you dilute it by talking about "net" figures and taking sales into account. But - he has by defnition, like any manager, sold players he considers to be not good enough - and no, there is absolutely NO other reason for selling a footballer that doesn't want to leave - then given the license to spend 50m quid to build what he wants. The figure of 200m or whatever it is since 1997 is the same. It is money the managers have been given license to, to invest in players to improve the football team / squad. we were 3rd, 2 years ago, and ahead of Liverpool, before Souness came in we were only 4 points behind them, a season and 8 games ago. hopefully not, but I think Luque will turn out like Boumsong, overpriced. Panic buys in short. You have to buy and sell well, at proper prices. we will see. It's results and league position that count. Already, the position we were in last May would not have been tolerated by Arsenal and Liverpool so those who do tolerate it are lowering their standards IMO.
2. interesting points mate, and I'm not trying to draw this out, and I don't read the Daily Mail myself - but am curious to what you think solutions could be. Lets face it, you and I, we are two of the older posters on here. Personally, I download music, or did, but not so much now because I more or less have most music I wanted in my collection which is quite vast, I downloaded songs, bootlegs, rare copies of things etc which are mostly unobtainable now etc etc, and made up compilations of songs etc which i already have in album format as CD's for convenience. Maybe you consider this to be not much of an excuse, but you could also take the view that the record industry ripped us off for years ie lifting tracks off albums and putting out a b side which wasn't on the album to get you to buy the single, and the same scenario the other way round, ie putting the single out first then putting the same 2 tracks on the album. Along with the sheer cost of CD's, which compared to other places in the world, is simply extortionate in the UK. I like violent movies [sometimes] but hate rap music, which I totally agree is stomach churning, chanting rubbish. I don't spend half my life on the lash, but like to go out, and know when to stop, I am very rarely pissed. And yet, I'm no criminal, I'm totally law biding, help old ladies over the road, will have a laugh with anyone, even people on this forum I disagree with. People are different in real life to these message boards, having met lads before I am sure that everyone on here are law abiding decent fairly normal blokes too. I think that when you get to the age we are, and others like PL, things like street violence, respect for others etc concerns you a lot more, you have kids, daughters etc you worry about them, you also worry about your own parents as they get older. I do anyway. I can't agree that it hasn't increased in the last few decades, it surely has, and the nastiness of it has worsened too. And there are reasons why it has increased, which, unless things are done, can only continue increasing. Canny debate though. However, what would be your solutions anyway to help ? I agree with you about McKeag BTW, I just didn't want to sound offensive towards a dead man but hey you said what I and others I suspect were thinking.
3. ... Shepherd signs the players the manager wants to keep, every chairman does, in case you didn't realise ...
4. Shame some people will simply never admit they are wrong about a manager, or a player come to that [who exactly did say Ameobi and Kluivert would be the dynamic replacements for Shearer a year ago] they would rather cling to one success story.....however, more to the point, as an accountant what do you think of the money he is spending, and what do you think of our points total last season ?
5. will it take Souness to match the top 5 position or higher that we were under Bobby Robson. Are we in danger of him cleaning the club out of money ? Or has Shepherd not splashed enough cash ?
6. You leave Souness alone for making these decisons mate, he's doing a great job
7. In total agreement.... We've now gone nearly 300 minutes without conceeding a goal. That's a defensive record that the likes of Keegan and Robson could only dream of, yet still he's not doing it right.... Four of first choice forward 6 were not available today. We got a draw. Had we put out a full strength side and come out with that, I'd agree that it couldn't be classed as acceptable - but we're not going to win them all. If we draw those we don't win (and more importantly, keep a clean sheet), I'll accept it.. 41833 I don't think any of either Robson or Keegan will be casting nervous glances at Souness equalling their POINTS total, or getting near their league positions. Any team who puts 7 or 8 men behind the ball and spends 40m+ on 4 or 5 players should at least have a few points on the board and a decent defensive record. Shame we didn't have a shot on goal today though ..... hey, but I'm sure you like some of the others will look back when Souness has gone and quite rightly abuse the whole concept of a team playing in such a way..not that you will admit anything other than Souness was "unlucky"..... [ replace with any excuse of your choice rather than admit you backed him and were wrong to do to] To compare Souness with Robson never mind Keegan, is mind boggling. Football is about scoring goals not just conceding and to suggest Souness will EVER get anywhere near the TEAM and RESULTS Keegan did is quite honestly one of the most deluded things I've ever read. You all said, that Souness time starts when he had his team...well he has it now, and if his BACKROUND team can't train the players properly..........then it is his responsibility. We are playing like a poor side and you know it. You are falling into the same hole as the others. Lower expectations, excuses... By putting Jeanarse in Spurs important players, now that really is taking the piss ....
8. Dyer has hardly played 50 percent of games for years, Emre wasn't here last year, neither was Owen. Luque has only just came, and in the brief viewing we have seen, for me, might have an application problem, however we will see. Babayaro wasn't here last year, and is a waste of space. So. 50m quid to improve a SQUAD that Bobby Robson got to 4th, 3rd, 5th and 2nd phase of the Champions League. Clubs like Portsmouth, bolton, Blackburn, West Ham, Villa, Wigan are all above us or on a par with our current league position, and all of these clubs have constructed their entire teams for less than that, never mind having the advantage of coming into a club with a ready made quality team as a head start. Sorry matey, there is absolutely NO excuse for Souness. He is a shit manager, he always has been and always will be, and we will never fulfill the potential of players we have at the club while he is manager, plus the fact that his stupidity in telling the whole of football how desperate we are to sell players, and buy their replacements means we have been ripped off good and proper for at least 3 of his buys, such is the magnitude of his imcompetence and stupidity. For 50m quid to improve a top 5 team, we should have a team of racing certainties to get into the top 4, with plenty of players as back up to make up a quality squad to account for injuries. Everyone has injuries, it is just an excuse peddled by Souness, but then we all knew when he came he would take the club downwards and make excuses for his and his teams ineptitude.
9. Every real Newcastle United Supporter will echo the above. One of the real reasons we have won nowt since 1955 the Fairs cup was a fluke. 41842 I agree too, but I am trying, with difficulty to show respect for a man who has passed away, and I am finding it difficult to comprehend Robs attitude...or maybe it's as I suspected all along.....he is laid back about kids standing on street corners, muggers, national service as a remedy etc, because basically he doesn't give a toss about them as they don't live next door or the same street as him, you know, I'm all right Jack so theres no problem......whereas if a problem is closer to home.......
10. They are true, it was confirmed in the press at the time and the club confirmed the new contract.
11. http://www.guardian.co.uk/usa/story/0,12271,1582356,00.html
12. you're preaching to the converted mate...he's full of excuses, he's spent vastly more trying to improve a ready made top team than the vast majority of the premiership have spent in total...and still won't take responsibility or the flak for playing shit and performing like shit. One day we will wake up and this nightmare will be ended and he will be gone.
13. but he didn't break any laws... such feeling ..... not your usual laid back attitude that you have about other things Rob ....
14. I think we'll see a switch towards the end of the season, and let whoever it is comnig in get his feet under the table as official manager. Unless of course we are chasing something in which case he'll last the season, but I can't help the feeling that we'll be drifting somewhere in the middle come March time. 41762 http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/e...rem/4277840.stm post match interview on here ... apologies if it's somewhere else already.
15. As Shearer persuading Owen to sign has no doubt saved us from being bottom of the league tonight, and gave Souness more time : How much longer do we think he will last ?
16. team spirit seems well in order at Blackburn too ..... with the "disruptive" Bellamy on board, and without the master manager Souness...oh and a simple matter of above us in the league too 41713 41716 you are on about Souness being a success again aren't you ? I can tell you that I am right as much as you like And you know it. 41717 Right about what man? We beat Blackburn 3-0 with Bellamy in the side, and Bellamy went off injured today long before Blackburn took the lead. What's your point about Bellamy and Blackburn? What was the relevance? There was none, you just can't help yourself. 41719 you are fast becoming a prize knacker for your refusal to admit selling Bellamy was a stupid act by a fuckwit manager, resulting in inferior performances, worse results and a shitload of money spent for the trouble. I look forward to seeing your excuses for Souness when he is sacked by Newcastle. Although I know what they will be, not enough time, not enough money [!], Shepherd sticking his nose in...you will say he succeeded in kicking out the "bad eggs" ..... turning a blind eye to the performance of the team and the club....lower expectations among you and all your cronies who cannot also bring themselves to admit the crass stupidity and incompetence of this man in charge of our football team The point is the continuing proof of Souness lack of ability as a manager, along with lies that only gullible people like you have allowed yourself to blind yourselves with ..... another thing you won't admit, even when it stares you in the face as it is becoming now, and if we hadn't been lucky enough to have Shearer persuade Owen to come, would now be bottom of the league 41721 More amateur clairvoyance. Nice one. What's the point in constructing an incident in the future that hasn't happened and having a go at someone on the basis of what you predict they'll say? You've got a fucking screw loose mate. And I think we've established that we don't agree on who was in the right re Bellamy v Souness. You believe the stories about Souness grabbing Bellamy by the throat and dismiss any of the stories painting Bellamy in a poor light, or try to blame them on someone else (Bellamy texting Shearer was Shearer's fault for having too much influence at the club (!) ). Serious question: when are you going to get over the fact that Craig Bellamy doesn't play for Newcastle anymore? He's injured again by the way. So far this season he's managed 3 and a bit games. And this time you can't blame his injury on Souness. 41725 Not amateur claivoyance. A year ago some of us said where we would be today, you and others said we wouldn't. We are saying things won't get back to where we were under Bobby Robson, with Souness. You and others are saying they will, or making ready excuses in case they don't. The Bellamy stories about Souness grabbing Bellamy the throat are true, as are those about him trying to break Dwight Yorkes leg, that information is first hand to myself. If you are truly happy having a manager like this at the football club, who has a proven record of leaving clubs in dissaray and a poor position everywhere he goes, that is your prerogative. However it is not mine. And - I am absolutely confident in how I foresee what will happen. I see you are not so confident of how you do. I would say that myself and the others will go on about Souness when we are proved to be absolutely right and he is sacked. So, it's as I said. Results have proven who has been right and wrong so far, and will continue to do so. Shame you and all the Souness apologists will be wrong, but thats the way it goes. You are still defending him after today, and 40m quid trying to improve a top 4/5 team ? I thought you were an accountant ? 41730 I'm away out. I'll reply later if I can be arsed although we're just going to go around in circles. In the meantime, any clue on tonight's lottery numbers, o mystic one? 41733 not that clever, I can only see blatantly obvious footballing predictions ....... but thats because I don't wear rose tinted specs © Oh, and if I am wrong about Souness and he gets us into the top 4, then I will admit I'm wrong, only a total cock wouldn't do that

18. Absolutely, such excuses being peddled by the Souness apologists are fast becoming even more embarrassing Rather than a broken record, they sound like a multiple CD player, scratching each others backs while they are at it

21. Sorry mate, just WHY should we beat them ? They have just won at the smoggies last week ... fact is, under Souness we will always underachieve
22. team spirit seems well in order at Blackburn too ..... with the "disruptive" Bellamy on board, and without the master manager Souness...oh and a simple matter of above us in the league too
23. probably 41569 41571 ah...Souness' version of the tackle where he tried to break his own players leg in training. Once again, another disguised lie. More hypocrisy from the man who also said of Yorke's reaction when he subbed him, "I like players who don't want to be subbed, that is the sort of player I want in my team" Ahem ...............
24. it happens to everyone mate. But other clubs spend and sell money more wisely and get bigger squads for their cash ie they don't make it known to everyone they are desperate to sell, desperate to buy .... And they get bigger and better managed squads for far less then we have got
