1. How ? 17517 because he is the man that sorts out incoming players. 17519 Sorry mate I don't know what you mean, I thought Souness was appointed to sort things out a team that was regularly qualifying for the champions league and UEFA Cup
2. Fair point. A bit of me thinks that too, we've been down the road before of having people that don't really want to play for you
3. "attacking" players.. back to that malarky on the training ground again ...
4. This is the where Shepherd makes himself look stupid though isn't it. If he didn't do things like this he might be better off and we would think more of him. If this bid is to hike up the fee from Liverpool, so we get him on loan, then yes it's very clever, but also a let down if he does arrive on loan in the end. If it's genuine it's bloody stupid being 4-5 million quid depending on which report you read, more than their valuation.
5. Local Hero Stairway to Heaven Knocking on Heavens Door [bob Dylan version]
6. To be fair we do have tactics. Hooooooooooooooooooooooooof..... 16930 To quote the great man again: "It's not everyone's cup of tea but they get results, and if you're going to get something there, your defenders have to do well." Graeme, spot the difference between their and our hoofing game... 16934 next to his observation that he's said a few times "the game is more cat and mouse than it has ever been"...we've got a real clever manager here !
7. aha...wondered when you would be back... I have roxio platinum and an upgrade to version 5.3.5.10 Suppose it works, but I can't stop it being part of the boot up procedure, also I can't recover data on data CD's I copied before, it stored them in a "versions" format which I can't access any more, I am wondering if it is something to do with the udf installer - and something is interfering with windows media player. I can live with these probs but would fix them if possible. If it's only a small update file, then you could actually send it to me - I'm on broadband - ???? Why did you switch to nero ? It's probably a good programme but I think roxio is far more user friendly 16734 The upgrade I have is 5.3.5.10 so it's the same one you already have. I installed the platinum version and ran the upgrade over the top and never had any problems (apart from the equivalent to incd which I don't think was supported in XP). I changed to Nero because I started to get problems with 'buffer underun' in Roxio, it was bloody infuriating, the CD burn would get almost to the end then crash!!! Nero's got something in the programme to stop that happening and I've never had a CD or DVD fail to burn properly since I got Nero a couple of years ago. I think the interface is just a case of what you are used to, I prefer Nero now as I'm used to it. If you want Nero 6 then download it from the website and I'll PM you a serial key to unlock it if you need one. 16745 I had a problem with a new CD writer I bought last year, it kept "jumping" near the end of the disk, when the disk was full. I was convinced it was because the laser was out of sync, due to them burning from the inside to the outside it was faulty when it opened fully...I took my tower down for him to look at in the end, then he gave me 10 blank disks for my trouble and changed the CD writer. i've got a Nero disk OEM suite which I bought, and the version 5.9 which I got with the CD writer above, so wouldn't mind version 6 though... EDIT: how often do you defrag windows xp, and do you boot it up in safe mode to defrag it, as with w98se anyone ?
8. I don't care if he had a personal problem with Bellamy, this is a football club playing for big stakes and he is paid a lot of money to manage it. In all walks of life people have to put up with peope they have personal issues with. A proper manager would have made sure he had a top class replacement before selling a top class player. Souness assaulted him on the training ground and Bellamy should have hit him back with a big heavy hammer. I'm not against him selling Robert, just again, the fact he has spent his transfer money on players to replace the ones he's let go in every position bar the positions he needed.
9. Sorry mate, just when I thought it was getting to be a good discussion... Souness CHOSE to spend his money on midfield players [3 in all] and no strikers....knowing he was going to need strikers.... I doubt very much we got anywhere near 5.5 mill for Bellamy [this is where your missing million or two comes in....] 20m quid in the transfer market, NONE of them strikers ..... Anyway, ref your question about my username, there's no other LeazesMag, I used to be westendlad, told everyone when I changed, and have bagged that name on here too, I used both those names on rivals before skunkers started as well. What were you on the old message boards ?
10. he bought Faye, Moore and Babayaro. He let Bernard go to be replaced by Babayaro. He has let Ambrose and Hughes go. He wants to get rid of Bowyer and keep Dyer and Jenas. He has let our entire attack go and replaced them with more midfield players. He is down on his transfer fees and has used the majority of his budget to do the above. No one was pissed off with Bellamy. If you were, you were the only one who was. We have plummeted in the league, believe it or not it's results that count, and every time he talks about Spriit, Bobby Robson should go on TV and tell him he should shut his gob until he matches the spirit, results and ability of the team that played regularly in the Champions League that he inherited. 16451 a) as squad players as the squad was rather depleted when he arrived(babayaro was due to needing a short term fix due to over demanding previous encombent who is now struggling to find gainful employment) b)see above c)so! d)wants rid of bowyercos he hasnt performed plus he'll be worth less in a years time, dyer having now signed a new contract perversly is worth more that he was due to not being in the last year of his contract, also he's played well since xmas(bowyer has played ok very end of last season aswell),jenas,is it possible souness is just making the noises to keep the price high ? e)we needed quality in midfield as opposed to numbers, money is there for forwards, ask fred why it aint being spent ? f)his budget still seems to have a bit left but if the chairman wont spend it ???? g)are you the same leazes mag that was on the old toon-chat board???? if you were you may have noticed one or two being very pissed off with bellamy,i'll admit leazes you do put over some good points but putting stuff like that makes you seem silly. 16856 A proper manager ie Keegan, would have came in and convinced the player to sign a contract for a club that is going places. A shite manager loses the player. Dyer v Bowyer is a no no. Bowyer is a proper central midfield player, Dyer is a right sided midfield player as he was when we bought him. He could play up front as he has the pace and energy to play off someone, but he isn't and never has been a central midfield player. And having said that, Souness holding Dyer up as a model professional is the biggest joke I've heard in years. Once again Clueless disagrees with himself. He says the most important thing is what happens when you cross the white line, then sells the most hungry player on the books and kisses the arse of the most underachieving. The point e, about Shepherd is a total no go. A year ago, we were established top club. Shepherd has backed Souness all the way to make the changes he wants, and we have gone backwards as a result. I don't believe anyone can say Shepherd hasn't backed his managers, its the most absurd thing I've seen on these message boards, and if you want to dispute it, look at the figures and see how many clubs have spent or handed their managers more of their clubs money over the past 7-8 years than us. Makes me smile actually, because it makes me think that people who peddle this shite are sitting in the working mens clubs listening to people who still think McKeag is running the club. So far as I know, I am the only Leazes Mag, certainly am on toonchat, skunkers and howaythetoon. If people are pissed off with Bellamy, they weren';t when he was here !!! For me, he always has been a top player. I was over the moon when we signed him because I thought he was a top player playing in a poor team at Coventry, and when we have seen him play for Newcastle fully fit is one of the best forwards I've seen play for us. If you think owt I say is silly, thats your opinion, although it's not half so stupid as those who still think Souness should be given time, but i won't change my opinions and if I'm proved wrong will admit it.
11. how are you so sure...last year we only drew with norwich, early season with bellamy and robert in the team. 16177 did you see the game ? Or are you going to make excuses for Souness ? Have you looked at last seasons table BTW, and compared it to the 3 years previously, and why is the Norwich game last season relevant to the game on Saturday. We also played in the intertoto, [ rather than the UEFA or Champions League, such is our fall under Souness,] and should also be a bit sharper and fitter like the last time we played in the intertoto under Bobby Robson. Are you pleased that Souness had kicked out 2 forwards and replaced them with 3 midfield players and a defender in 11 months ? 16187 yes i was at the game and yes i balme souness for the result as i think even with the players we had out there we should have won and his tactics blew it. yes i know about our position over the last few seasons, but to more as important was the slide in performances from easter 2004. no i'm not pleased souness has only got in midfielders when forwards are needed, but is that entirely his fault or fat freds ? an argument can be made to the extent that you should only sell after you have the replacement but it also rings true that in order to get the replacemnet you first need the cash(fat freds court again). i compare saturday with the norwich game as i see west ham as being slightly better, similar length into the season, not a perfect comparisson and to be honest it baresno relation in reality,a bit like saying we would deffo have won had players x and y played. 16294 of course it's Souness's fault. How can it be Shepherds fault, do you think Shepherd targetted 2 midfield players to replace 3 forwards, on top of Faye and Boumsong who had already been brought into the club ? Of course you should buy before you sell if you are short in an area and overborne in another. If a manager is given x amount of money to spend on a team, he targets the areas he thinks is particularly weak as a priority, doesn't he ?? Well a "proper" manager would anyway. As Souness knew he was binning Robert, Bellamy, Kluivert and Shearer was coming to the end of the road, it's obvious where he should have targetted. If he wanted Emre and Parker, he should have binned Viana, Dyer and Jenas, or others from overborne areas to raise further cash but as Dyer is his golden boy and model professional it seems his judgement is fucked up even more than his priorities. 16365 thtas where we differ,i say target where your problems are and we had as many problems in midfield as up front so when players come available in either position get them...we'd be in much the same position with 2 new forwards and last seasons apathetic midfield.(he's been trying to bin viana but a lack of takers,i reckon a good bid could have seen jenas away in june aswell) it's quite possible the manager was given "x" amount to spend, but who done the sums to arrive at "x",what if the chairman said to the manager "yes you can buy those 2 midfielders as when we sell these we'll have enough for 2 forwards"-only it didn't work out that way. do you seriously think they'll go after players in order,ie we need 2 forwards so we'll forget whoever else comes up until we get them "?rememeber bids were made for anelka and boa morte before parker and emre.by the sounds of it fred(on who's advice i know not-maybe souness's)has decided on certain values for certain players and he wont budge, remember when he got woodgate we all thought he got a great deal,it now seems like he believes he can do it all the time. 16829 I understand what you are saying. But I say that as he decided to change the midfield before the forwards it made it more imperative he kept the forwards he had until he had sorted his midfield. I don't give a flying fuck what his personal problem was with Bellamy and Robert. If he puts that before the best interests of the club - which he has - he should have been sacked as soon as it became obvious. Which is within weeks of walking into the club. He also should have been sacked for assaulting a member of his staff on the training ground. Have you listened to the pathetic cunt now, complaining he needs "2 players who can unlock doors". The stupid bastard had 2 players who unlocked doors, but won't take responsibility or accept the fact he has has fucked up by letting them both go. Some of us predicted he would do this ie take the club backwards and downwards and blame everyone but himself for it. This is the first of many times you will see him do this, if he is not sacked soon by the thick fat twat who appointed him in the first place, as he will soon be blaming referees, linesman, the FA for changing times of games, the weather, the state of the pitch......anything but his own fucking incompetence for our possible and totally realistic relegation, in spite of the skyboys who haven't experienced it before thinking it's impossible for NUFC. It bloody well is.
12. Is that a reply to me? If it is, I'm not sure what you are trying to say. Souness managed to emulate Dalgleish and Gullit? He is still a defensive master and did a lot of good stuff but Dyer and Bowyer bollixed it up for him? Wow, fair enough but surely if that's the case they should have been run out of the club asap, yet one of them got a new £80,000 a week (a week) contract and the other remains. Please explain. /Oh and neither of them were/are defenders. 16831 I can't see his point either, unless his standard of expectation for Newcastle are limited to winning a few cup games.
13. Please tell me our club is at least aware of his availability? 16690 I hope you mean Paul Jewell
14. I know Sheargol thinks similar, as me and him have mentioned it before, but David Hodgson at Darlo has turned them around from a bottom team to a top team for the 3rd time...a manager destined for bigger things too. At the moment though we might need a short term but he's worth keeping an eye on. Agree with those who think there are literally dozens at least who would have done better than Souness has, in fact I think very few wouldn't.

16. Gemmil. Question. What would you say if it turned out that Shepherd let Bellamy go for an absolute pittance, say 1m, or even 2m or 3m, just to get him off the books and avoid an ugly confrontation with his manager ? What would you say about the manager, forcing his chairman into such a corner. Not to mention the sheer stupidity of the whole thing ? Someone somewhere made the decision to give Bellamy that extra week off when the players reported back for training, and I know who my money would be on. So do you not consider such actions throwing money down the drain to back the manager, exactly the same as bidding 1m short to replace him.. or looking at it another way, because he has backed the manager he doesn't HAVE the extra 1m to go all the way. Furthermore, do you not see sometimes you can just go too far to make a gamble, because a gamble it is, especially if there is any truth in the above scenario. 1m might not sound a lot in football terms, but if we constantly undersell our own players etc etc and we paid over the top for Boumsong, you have to call a halt somewhere. I don't agree Shepherd is a bad deal for managers. Dalglish, Gullit and Robson have never at any time said he didn't support them with as much cash as they could want. Gullit especially took no pay off if you remember, and I'm sure they would all tell any manager who asked them that he supported them all the way. I agree with Icegrim. I was personally against Gullit, and with Dalglish, but Souness is the first bad choice generally Shepherd has made.
17. Why is it our money ? It isn't. Once you've bought something from the club, it's theirs. 16535 As a fact that is undeniable. However it can be argued that fans have pumped money in with the expectation that will actually spend some on players. While the board are entitled to spend that cash as they see fit, they should not be surprised if the supporters reciprocate by watching games in the pub from next season. 16570 we have spent plenty of money on players. But too much has been wasted on the wrong or poor players, and not just by Souness, whose sales are disastrous to boot.
18. For his getting rid of players. 16505 But it's not just that though. It's the fact he seems to be incapable of creating a team with less than £30M at his disposal. How many people on here have seen Luque play enough to know that his transfer fee of £10 M (or whatever it is now) and wages of £65K are justified? Not many I bet, but I'm not surprised Shepherd is reluctant to release a collossal amount of money on a relative unknown who might not even adapt here. FFS, Souness has had money, and he inherited a top 5 squad. Why can't people see this? The answer isn't always to throw money away (although that doesn't mean I am happy with Shepherd's role in all this). 16541 I completely agree with this. Also totally agree that there comes a point when something is just too much of a gamble. Shepherd has backed his manager, he's allowed him all the freedom to bin players he wanted, he's also backed him when selling them for less than they are worth [which is the same thing as paying over the odds] and he has backed him by paying over the odds for Boumsong. A top 5 team doesn't need much done for it go higher, only a few new faces, better quality and freshening up in the right places not an overhaul of the whole club.
19. Why is it our money ? It isn't. Once you've bought something from the club, it's theirs.
20. I totally agree. If the manager wants more money, it's up to him to play his part, not devalue his players, and exercise better judgement when making his own buys. We simply cannot expect Shepherd to bale out Souness just because Souness has screwed his own transfer money. He has had enough backing considering he took over a top side. A better course of action would be to sack him before he wastes any more. Or to have sacked him before he binned players he shouldn't, then all this wouldn't have been so relevant anyway.
21. he bought Faye, Moore and Babayaro. Bobby had five years and won nothing. I appreciate we consistently finished high in the league but it took him 2 seasons. (13th and 11th I think?) Souness won't be given that time probably, but I think his critics are way too harsh. Also, I don't think the lack of strikers is as much down to Souness as Shepherd. 16471 honestly mate, thats all wrong. Souness, the manager, decided where to spend his transfer money. No one else. Souness decided he wanted rid of Bellamy, Robert and kluivert. No one else. No I wasn't pissed off when Bellamy gloated when we lost the semi, for 2 reasons, one we don't know if it's true and I don't believe a word Souness of any of his yes men say, and two Bellamys actions - if they are true - tell me that he feels the victim of a clique or an agenda, and the bigger picture to that is a club with serious problems that should be acted on, rather than just slag off the person who has the balls to say what he percieves as the truth ie Souness is a prick. As for Bobby Robson winning nothing, it never ceases to amaze me how people change their spots so often. The 3 years we qualified for Europe, and the first year he got us out of a mess, no one anywhere had a bad word against him. The same people who now defend Souness will be denying it at Xmas, or viewing him in the same light as they look back on Dalglish and Gullit
