I'd never seen her mother before but had always she did look a bit like her Dad so I sort of assumed he was thinner as a young man and probably not bad looking for a bloke. The Viz did a borderline bolier type feature with "birds who look off-puttingly like their Dads" which featured both Nigella and Angelina Jolie - it took me till seeing her in Tomb Raider to really get over thinking they were far too right for the latter.

One thing I would point out is the idea that the mortgage would be paid off as it was secured against ST receipts going forward should not be considered that much "good business". When the mortgage was taken out once the expansion was done I think we had 41k ST holders paying top whack ( I remember mine peaking at £643). Now presuming that that income would be constant over 15 years both in football and bigger picture terms (ie assuming no economic downturn in the NE which is always vulnerable) shows a great deal of confidence which I'm sure LM will back up by saying they'd had 12 years of sell outs so another 15 years wouldn't be a problem. I have my doubts that that 15 years was that clever - and I think predictions of falling ST sales suggesting the need for re-financing could be one of the reasons the Halls started to look for a get out.

Isn't the real answer that Shepherd would have used the Carroll money to pay off the mortgage?

The quiz programme used the intro from A Forest by The Cure as its signature and main music effect - and I think the prize was a copy of the laserdiscs.

I saw the end of Nickleback's set at V about 6 years ago and he did give an amusing illustration of what was at the time one hit wonder syndrome when at the end of the set he introduced their first big song whose name escapes me with the comment "Right, lets do this shit and then we can go and get drunk". -
The stock argument against those who said it was wrong to prop up the steel or mining industries that Farming was/is massively subsidised has now been hit out of the galaxy by the banking bailout.

One of the worst legacies of the Thatcher/Blair years is that the UK seems to have embraced American attitudes to society and economics. The worship of greed and the rich and the so called American dream is very much Thatcher's ethos complete with the increased disparity of rich and poor in both countries. Those who always cry "changes had to be made" when supporting the erosion of union power never think about the downside of the promotion of shit, temporary jobs in the pursuit of a "business friendly" market which does so much damage in the long run. They also have no asnswer to the argument that France and Germany as you say have emerged from the 30 years of "there is no alternative" Thatcherite economics in the UK with stronger economies despite the unions and with "traditional" industries still flourishing and this in France's case despite a very socialist welfare state. Instead of the admiration of American business practices we'd be better off looking to Europe.

Pele played for Santos in a friendly in the 70s I think.

Blasted it with the steam jets from the iron - seems to be doing the trick.

Got an interview tomorrow and have noticed my suit jacket looks a tad shabby. Need quick advice for removal of: Dust/lint (No K-Tel or Ronco devices available) Stains which are probably hair wax (yes I am slightly gay that way) Tried using wet bog roll but disaster almost ensued - started to break down and stick to material making it worse.

I know its not necessarily a popular view but I think the hierachacal level of English/Scottish/Welsh/Ulsterman is too fine or narrow - I understand the desire for a certain level of identity but think a regional identity (like Geordie for example) within a larger union is the correct level. I think "British" is that right level for the union rather than the narrower one. The shared level of culture at that level with individual variation within that is pretty strong.

Haven't seen the figure but they've been claiming for the past few years to be a net contributor tax wise.

On one of the first one or two occasions when I went to London for a match (16 or 17) I remember a couple of old dears in a pub eating their dinner. One of them put her knife and fork down and picked up her napkin. One of the Geordies who was sort of in our group said "Are you finished with that, pet? to which she replied "uhm.. yes" at which he point he sat down and finished her plate including licking it clean. Even I thought he was an uncivilised twat but God knows what the woman thought.

I'm not the one who is embarassed by NUFC fans or who can't enjoy football any more tbh (although you would have a point if you had posted this in the Souness era). I'm also not the one who thinks the country is falling apart due to immigration. Really that's just a list of posters you don't like. Gejon being negative man, fuck off man. I don't judge anybody on here in terms of "like" or "dislike" that I haven't met in real life [and so far as I know, that's only 2 people] . Be positive Renton. However, thinking the club is no bigger than the likes of Bolton and Blackburn, is, in fact, sligggghhtly negative. As is thinking we are better off selling our best players to clubs we have finished above in our recent past. Serious question, were you not embarrassed at the booing that went on aimed at a team which finished 5th in the premiership ? Or the booing at the testimonial of a world class superstar in front of millions on TV ? Because if you weren't, you should have been. Next. It's you who mention those teams - all I say is that given no chance of funding, its only realistic to forget about the top 4/5/6 - 4 of which you agree with. Saying "we're aiming for the top 4" is unrealistic bravado. It's not me who states it as an indisputable FACT that we won't win anything for the foreseeable future and revels in that. No answer about how you feel fear of living in your own country either.

People have been plainning for the cuts and letting people know (or worse let them stew) for months - including redundancy for some. The actual effects of the cuts on services won't be known for a while but the human cost has already started and has been ongoing since last year.

Colmans on Ocean road was UK runner-up for best chippy a few years ago.

You're definitely right there. I was recently at a stag weekend, half northerners / half southerners. They were definitely more boisterous whereas we're a bit more reserved. Well I'm a Southerner and I'm not boisterous at all. I'm quite reserved. In my experience its exactly the other way round with Northerners being much louder and confident. Yeah but "Southerner" from an NE derogatory context means home counties/London not the whole different ball game of the SW.

This is why the cunts live in Boldon and Cleadon so they can look down on the plebs without seeing the results of their master's dogma.

Nowt wrong with passionate bile - it's my mantra to get through life combined with sardonic contempt for 99.99% of people. I think in life as well there are plenty dodgy characters around and you might think am wrong here, but it's important than you can stick up for yourself so people don't talk down to you, or worse when you're at school physically bully you. Another thing about disagreeing with people, would life not be boring if everybody held the same views putting them across in the same way? I think since I've moved south it has made me stick up for myself more - its sad to say that the number of people who I meet who hear the accent and instantly assume I'm unintelligent is huge - the degree to which they do that determines my response. I find that as well. It's a lot more cynical. Even people I get on really well with will randomly say "whey aye", and it's not funny the 1,000th time. There's some misery for you Parky Yep - the ones who act like your mate and then start going on about Ant and Dec - arseholes.

We played Kingy - I remember watching Call My Bluff for no apparent reason years ago when Frank Muir was still alive and it coming up as a word - can't recall who it was but it sounded so made up when described - "a game played mainly in the north of England where people stand in a circle and try to kick the ball through each other legs to determine who is "it" and then involving throwing a tennis ball at the free players until none are left". We also played a form of hide and seek call Kick the Can where whoever was it had to name the person they'd seen while standing on the can - the caught person could free themselves and everyone else caught by kicking the can before the person who was it got there and the time taken to replace the can was the time everyone had to hide.
