  1. Ollie Burton's tesimonial in May 1973 - beat the Mackems 2-1.
  2. Went for the first ride today and all was going well until I got about 1/2 mile from home (at the bottom of an incline) and decided to play with the gears, (3 settings on one grip and 6 settings on the other, giving a choice of about 18 gears). Ended up getting into this gear that had my legs flying round like Billy Whizz and the bike only just moving. Various people were walking towards me and I didnt want to risk knocking it into a really heavy gear, so continued to pedal home like some sort of knacker on speed. Well unless you're off road you should never need to change the front gear of 3 to anything less than the biggest ring.
  3. You dislike him because he unbuttoned his shirt? Man, you crazy!!!! More the pathetic attempt to be "normal" that it implies. I'd force the twat to wear his Bullingdon costume everyday to remind people what he is.
  4. Caught a bit just flicking through the channels when I came in - he'd unbuttoned the top button of his shirt - what a cunt.
  5. Good job the event's gone - he'll have to watch saying that he has things coming up as the burglars will pounce.
  6. In one sense I think the mind-boggling numbers of ancestors we have makes me feel like they don't really matter but when you do personalise it even only for a couple of generations as I did you can easily be quite affected. Being the baby of the family and being born 8 years after my sister and most/all of my cousins meant I only ever knew one of my grandparents (Mam's Mam) and didn't really know much history. Finding out that both my Parents' Dads died when they were even younger than I was when my Dad died particularly moved me - especially as in boith cases it was "only" TB. Looking at the censuses at the end of the 19th century and seeing the what I presume would have been tiny houses crammed with kids and comparing it with the relative luxury I live in now was also thought provoking.
  7. I signed up for a couple of months - I only managed to get back to the comedian on my Dad's side - he was born in 1863 so beyond that you're down to parish records which are a nightmare. My surname is reasonably rare as was my Grandmother's maiden name so it wasn't that hard but my Mam's maiden name and her Mam's maiden name are both too common to allow much detail. Unfortunately the only remaining source for data was my Auntie who died before I started. One thing I noticed for those who preach about "better morality" in days of yore - both my Mam and Dad's parents' wedding dates were less than 9 months before the birth of their first kid (One was my Mam and the other my Dad's elder brother) so both were "shotgun" marriages. Maybe the difference was that they did get married (and both had long marriages as it happens). Doesn't bother me in the slightest of course.
  8. Even if it was a generational thing going back to when they were top dogs I don't understand how newer football fans could be impressed with the divine right attitude the twats show even now. I would say I'm surprised at someone of CT's age but then again being him I'm not.
  9. From what I've read J69, the kids' mother is in rehab too - probably as a result of living with him tbf but still.
  10. So did our lass, bit longer than 5 minutes though with 6 peeps to fill in. I said to her, in 100 years from now your great, great, great etc grand daughter will be researching this. I did a bit on Ancestry.co.uk a while ago - I found that my paternal great-grandfather who was originally from Berwick met his wife who was Cumbrian in Barrow in Furness before they moved to Jarra in about 1895. For the last 2 or 3 censuses his occupation was down as a steam mechanic or boiler worker so I assume he worked in a shipyard but for one of them (1891 I think) I'm sure his occupation was given as "Ethiopian Comedian" - I assumed it was a typo or the "Jedi" answer of the day as I'm sure he wasn't African
  11. Just done the census online - 5 minutes - sorted.
  12. Yes, but how did the kid like it?
  13. Don't want players for any other team to succeed, especially teams I hate but on a personal level I'll judge him by his reaction when he inevitibly scores against us next month.
  14. As someone who has twice lost a shit load of weight (and having started the third time this year) I can't recommend cycling high enough. You can potter around ST for a couple of months and then you have the delights of going further afield in Durham to come once you're more confident and fitter.
  15. Just thinking this morning why I dislike Dalglish so much - his interview where he was asked whether Carragher was lucky to stay on the pitch resulted in him saying he was lucky to be playing for Liverpool and how we should never talk about incidents in the game, just the game itself. The reporter bottled it but should have screamed "ANSWER THE FUCKING QUESTION YOU TWAT" at full volume. Also nice to see what a good loser Ferguson is.
  16. I think the recent Superman, Batman ans Star Trek films prove that it's possible to re-boot a classic brand in a good way so I'm not completely averse to the concept - agree there should be no Ford or Hauer.
  17. Smallpox versus cancer for me - though I enjoy seeing Ferguson's blood pressure being raised by almost fair refereeing. Having said that I don't think there was that much difference between the Carragher or Rafael challenges and Ryan Taylor's.

    Fair Play

Can't understand why they stopped before the bloke who scored had been laid out - then again Italians do need a good 10 to 1 ratio before they feel comfortable fighting.
  19. I feel a bit better today than of late - I know I sound like a stuck record but this getting a new job shit has been getting me down - anyway I had a really good phone interview this morning and have another one next week - in fact they are so desperate that after I told the agent about the one this morning and he told the client they brought it forward to Monday as they don't want me to get away as it were. However I prefer the first one of the two so will wait to see how that turns out anyway.
  20. Fucking Tory bastards trying to set rid of a socialist tradition is my take on it. (I know Thatcher pretty much succeeded in her target to kill it (in the UK at least) but still) I would also resist the time change - being on the Meridian is somthing that appeals to my twisted definition of patriotism.
  21. I love that crap that the head copper came out with about banning the game because they can't cope - maybe he should suggest banning alcohol in Glasgow as I'm sure that contributes to their time as well.
  22. Daft question I could look up but how do you charge them without a USB port? - do they have an iPod type connection and if so can you transfer files to/from a PC without Wi-Fi?
  23. Just had to do an online aptitude test as part of a job application - fucking hell didn't half take me back to junior school days and preparing for the 11+ - shite like rotating and flipping shapes and working out who's related to who (assuming it isn't Mackem land and mother/wife/sister are 3 people).
